Okay so here is the deal I have the Alpine MRP-M500 sub amp (the lower end model) and a 10 inch JL Audio sub in the trunk. My problem is that this amp model has this crazy bass hump at 50hz which is designed into the amp. Good for hip hop and really crazy low bass stuff I guess but I mostly listen to rock and metal in the car, and I like to get a good kick from the bass pedals etc which if I remember correctly is centered around mabe 80hz at the lowest.

I've tried to dial out the bass hump with the amp's controls but I am not getting the oomph that I want when I do that across the rest of the bass frequencies. Would it be worth it to put an eq on the bass amp to boost some of the other frequencies? Or am I better off getting a different (better perhaps) amp with its own parametric equalizer?

 

are you sure it's the amp?

are you sure it's not the HU or maybe the box you are using?

I haven't heard of a huge 50hz hump, but I don't have that amp.

I would make sure that any LPF is set as high (125hz or higher) as it can go - or turn it off completely if you have some other crossover somewhere. because it may be anything above 60 Hz is getting cuz off in your subs..

Well I'll read from the owners manual...next to the gain **** there is a "Bass EQ Adjustment ****" which adjusts the bass EQ (centered at 50hz) to suit my personal taste. I think the problem is when I boost this **** is mostly boosts the bass frequencies at 50hz which I don't really care about because I want to hear a bigger boost in higher frequencies like 80hz-120hz. But if I turn the **** down I basically can't hear the sub doing anything. If I raise it up it just enhances the low end bass guitars and stuff and whenever there is a bass hit in the music it sounds ridiculous and overpowering.

Yeah I got the amp's low pass set at around 120hz but everything just kind of sounds muddy still. It could be the box, I just built a custom fiberglass enclosure that sort of fits into the side of the trunk. I got the bose system too I haven't added a head unit. So pretty much all I got is the bose system and the amp, which taps into the rear speakers to get its signal going to the sub. Any ideas?

 

sounds like a bass boost function. turn it off, and try bringing the gain up on the amp till it will thump without using the ****, and see if it improves

 

I think my desires are unrealistic for the stock bose system. I am not getting the punch I want from the door speakers, I would have to replace the whole system which I don't really want to do right now. Thanks for your help guys I'll just live with whats I gots.
