APR is the type of company that listens to customer's request to when it comes to custom projects and stuff. they would gladly make custom wing stands and canards so I was thinking if rx8club members showed that the majority of us would be interested in an rx-8 widebody, they just might be inclined to do so.

i think it they would be answering a question that no other company has answered.

A widebody kit that wouldnt cost upwards 5 grand and take a year and an extra grand to ship.

before we bring this up to them, i'd like to discuss it a bit and see what you guys think.

It would have to keep the OEM lines and just be wider. APR is usually good about that with their kits. All the kits out there at this point are too over the top and gaudy, they ruin the lines of the 8.

A prototype picture wont come out until the following happens

1) we can show APR there is a demand out there
2) they decide to actually tackle the project.

hence why i think they should do this. they're really good at complimenting the stock lines of their cars. the reason why we have so many bad kits for the 8 and very few good ones is because the rx8 has a very unique shape. IMO, even the mazdaspeed kit ruined how the rx-8 looked. we currently dont have that many choices to widebodies, and they're all over-priced and over-seas.

I'd be interested, but as stated above, wider wheels are needed which also factor into the cost of owning a WB

their s2k widebody looks tight. they could probably do a nice job with the 8

For those of you who have not seen the APR widebody s2k, though you must have missed the Import Tuner cover, here you go:

I think the most difficult part would be APR justifying this project, from a financial standpoint in our current environment. How many people would honestly be willing to throw down the $$ when the day comes is the true question...

I mean computer rendering, so we could get an idea what it may look like comparing to others option out there which cost almost the same.

Nice kit but I would not pay $4k for it. Plus paint and install could run another $1500-$2000.

pdx - you do realize current widebody options for the rx8 are very limited and are all up in the 6k+ range (and that's being conservative!)?

Plus, have you looked at the body panels that need to be replaced with a widebody kit? You do realize the rear fenders actually extend all the way to the windscreen, right? You basically leave the door skins, trunk and hood on, that's about all that remains of a stock body. (And I, for one, would be using a VIS vented hood... stock hood is way too modest for an aggressive widebody!)

I'm willing to bet at least a few people would buy this kit, especially with the increasing percentage of forced induction options/users we seem to be seeing lately.

APR does some great stuff, I saw some of their custom canards and wing mounts over on the lotus forum and they are beautiful!

I know I'd be down for an APR kit once I'm FI, packing a little more rubber under the fenders would be nice :squint:

Plus, the APR stuff is tested with fluid dynamics software, so rest assured it would be functional as well as attractive. They also seem to take the lines of the car into account, unlike some other companies.

Having an off-the-shelf widebody option would be great, as it is I'm "stuck" with the thought of having an all-metal widebody tacked onto the stock fenders and custom modifying a FEED/Fujita front bumper and Kenstyle rear to match... sideskirts would have to be equally as custom... at that point I'm looking at far more than an off the shelf kit. Though I'd also be a lot more unique !

1. The question was asked would you be interested. My answer is no.
2. I'm not knocking APR or their quality of work.

For me, I do not want to spend $6k+ for body parts and paint. If I get the opportunity to go FI I will have nearly $20k into the car. I already have $6k - $7k into it and currently just waiting and justifying spending more. A widebody kit is not part of my plans. Not hating or discouraging anyone from buying it if and when it is available.

However I would be up for some front and rear flares. I'm surprised no one has produced a set to sell.

As far as a whole kit goes I probably would not be interested but I to would be interested in front and rear flares, I could justify spending that....

I mean seriously even if they are willing to make it, and make it cheaper than other wide body kits your still spending 3k to 4k for the kit and then upwards of 2k for paint and installation, thats 6k, if your going to spend that much you might as well get a FI system for you vehicle

and if you're wanting to put 6k on your car, you arent that far away from a 20b conversion if you do the work yourself. true, there are better ways to spend your money initially. however, after you're done adding power to your rx8, you'll be desperately looking for some traction and this is were APR could possibly step in.

most of their widebodies are around 4k take or leave some. I think this is a good price considering you'll get quality fitment, fluid dynamics testing that will improve your aerodynamics, our car's stock and delicate lines still intact, and more space to fit more rubber.

a widebody is a performance modification itself, no it doesnt yeild the biggest bang for buck but if we wanted easy power, we'd all be on an evo forum instead.

i just wanted to bring this point up but yes, as a few have stated, WB's do have a lot of hidden fees. Dont forget you need to get new rims and tires too.

I too, would like to see some slightly wider front fenders, and some rear fender flares. I would be interested in the widebody, but if I could choose between the two, I would definitly go for the fender flares. And I think APR would make more money that way as well, becasue it still gives you the option to choose from different aero kits.

And that S2k is sick! I hadn't seen that one yet. APR has always made quality product for cars, and I would love to see something come out for our 8.

Simply put; this will not happen. There won't be enough demand, and a lot of people who say they're interested will not drop the pretty penny when the time comes. Just have Alfy draw up a concept, and leave it at that....A concept design.

i wouldnt get one at this moment but it would definitly be something i would like to get in the far distant future. i always liked how the rx7s had widebody kits but ive only seen 1 good one out of 2 for the rx8.

It would be interest if the kit is add-on parts, instead of replacing whole bumpers and fenders.

This might reduce some fitments issue and it might bring the cost down too.

I think the question is, why aren't things like this in more demand? I was used to not getting parts when I drove an MR2 but I thought there would be 300% more parts for the 8 when I bought it.....

APR does great work and I know i'd take a loan out to get one (or sell some old stuff lmao) but I agree that most people will back out.

^ 8upbad that's how i felt when I got the car but now I realize it's not a bad thing because it means there is less ricer S@#t out there for our cars when compared to Hondas and such

taking out a loan to buy a widebody kit for a car may be the second worst thing you could financially do.

I love the way Speedsource does it. R-magic is sweet from the front but do not like the rear.

We just need someone to produce decent front and rear flares that we can mold into the fenders.

I was joking about the loan lol. I have enough car parts laying around to cover the cost easy... but i keep telling myself i'm gonna do something with them...:icon_no2:

+1 to this...I would defenitely be interested. And would be willing to save up to drop the money for it.

The big plus on this is that APR is in the US. So there would be no crazy ass shipping price the kit from Japan. And all their widebody kits include the front wind splitter and even canards on some...which some others dont include...its not too large of an expense but a + nontheless

Also I bet while they would be manufacturing the kit they would do the mirrors and maybe some other miscellaneous stuff
