View Full Version : midpipe ????? G3RX8 02-16-2009, 01:30 PM i tried searching but no one talks about hp numbers what is the best midpipe that wont throw a cel and the best hp numbers. i dont want something crazy loud. thanks for your help getdamafiaonyou 02-16-2009, 01:38 PM any mid pipe will throw a cel. you need to buy a cobb accesport from mazda maniac in order to mask the cel. and any will be loud, but go with fluids new one, dual resonated, prob the quietest one now. alnielsen 02-16-2009, 01:39 PM A midpipe will throw a CEL because you no longer have a cat. Figure at the most 10 HP. And, it will be loud. alz0rz 02-16-2009, 01:42 PM Of course with 2 huge resonators on it.. there truly won't be any loudness increase at all! All midpipes are the same in the sense that they remove a factory restriction.. resonators will tame sound levels. http://implux.net/~alz0rz/images/mdrm4.JPG ;) dozer 02-16-2009, 02:04 PM i have the turboxs on mine, you WILL throw a CEL...HONESTLY when mated up the stock exhaust it isnt loud at all, a tad bit louder than stock, when i had the exhaust leak it was FREAKIN LOUND, got a gasket and plugged the leak and right away i could tell the difference in sound....not so loud G3RX8 02-16-2009, 02:26 PM thanks for the help.... for some reason i thought it made more hp from a midpipe. does the fluid motorsports midpipe throw a cel. and i know it is going to be louder i just didnt want CRAZY LOUD. dozer 02-16-2009, 02:32 PM again...ANY midpipe you get that doesnt have a cat will throw a CEL getdamafiaonyou 02-16-2009, 02:47 PM yes it will throw one, just buy the AP. it's worth the money. StealthTL 02-16-2009, 02:53 PM A dead factory catpipe that has all the ceramic removed, is quite quiet. It has a resonator, and the huge chamber that the cat occupied works as a further sound dampener. The oem cat is also made out of thick steel, so no sound comes thru the metal, unlike a midpipe made from muffler shop scraps...... S G3RX8 02-16-2009, 03:18 PM i heard if you gut the oem cat you loose hp and is it worth it just to buy the ap instead of the midpipe if i didnt have the money for both StealthTL 02-16-2009, 03:37 PM i heard if you gut the oem cat you loose hp There is no way you could LOSE hp..... Sounds like whoever told you that was trying to sell you a midpipe! S G3RX8 02-16-2009, 03:56 PM when i was trying to search the midpipe i read it in one of the forums that import tunner mag or something like that says it does. and im not saying there right just what i read baseballgenius80 02-16-2009, 04:14 PM I have the Racing Beat race pipe (midpipe) up against a Magnaflow dual exhaust on my 8. Yes, it throws a CEL. However, I love the sound, especially when driving up in parking garages. hehe StealthTL 02-16-2009, 04:42 PM Simple physics - remove the huge restriction and it will flow better. No amount of 'turbulence' will ever cause the same restriction as a ceramic cat. Not saying that some Civic didn't lose h.p. after being gutted and not re-tuned, I'm talking about our huge cat and our ECU. RX-8skater 02-16-2009, 06:30 PM dont mean to thread jack whats the diffrence between resinator and test pipe? alz0rz 02-16-2009, 06:35 PM test pipe, midpipe, race pipe, cat delete, gutted cat - all mean the same thing. a hollow pipe, typically without the catalytic metals for emissions, from the manifold to the catback exhaust. if they have a RESONATOR on them it cuts down on the sound depending on how effective it is at it Fanman 02-17-2009, 02:18 AM Figure about 6 whp gain (that is what the magazines were getting), a little less if you put a resonator (or two) on there, about the same as a high flow cat. A midpipe/testpipe = a straight piece of pipe that goes from your header to your C Pipe. A resonator is a sound muffling device you add to your midpipe to reduce the decibels of your exhaust wail. In the picture above, it's the 2 big can looking things. G3tR3DDY2GR3DDY 02-17-2009, 02:43 AM the fluid motorsports dual resonated midpipe IS the quietest midpipe currently for sale, and the only. someone prove me otherwise. you WILL throw a CEL there is no other way around it other than the COBB AP you get to shoot flames ;) foo77 02-17-2009, 08:26 AM usually what sort of code do you guys get from the CEL? HockeyRX-8 02-17-2009, 08:27 AM usually what sort of code do you guys get from the CEL? I forget what the code is but it's catalyst efficiency below threshold G3RX8 02-17-2009, 09:36 AM does anyone have a sound clip of the fluid motorsports midpipe and wht do they cost lepichichi 02-17-2009, 10:49 PM this might sound like a stupid question but whats the HP difference on the rx7store.net stainless cat midpipe and the stainless midpipe from rx7store??? i wanna know if its worth paying the extra cash for the cat midpipe??? here is a couple of links with the pipes thanks guys http://www.rx7store.net/category_s/299.htm http://www.rx7store.net/category_s/300.htm alz0rz 02-17-2009, 10:54 PM one of them is a straight pipe with no catalyst in it, you will get a CEL. buy this if you don't care for the polar bears. the other is a "high flow CAT" it has a catalyst inside it so you won't get a CEL and you can pass emissions. buy this if you do care for the polar bears. lepichichi 02-17-2009, 11:07 PM one of them is a straight pipe with no catalyst in it, you will get a CEL. buy this if you don't care for the polar bears. the other is a "high flow CAT" it has a catalyst inside it so you won't get a CEL and you can pass emissions. buy this if you do care for the polar bears. so what you saying is they both give you the same hp gains?? :) alz0rz 02-17-2009, 11:12 PM well remember the point of getting rid of your stock CAT (apart from the sound) is to remove the restriction in the exhaust. the high flow cat still has a restriction but it is much less then that of the stock CAT though they tend to burn out quicker. the straight pipe.. is exactly that.. no restriction at all and completely free flow. for the absolute most hp gains you'd ideally get a straight pipe but that's up to you and if you're willing to find a way to pass emissions, deal with the smell, and loudness. lepichichi 02-18-2009, 09:04 PM well remember the point of getting rid of your stock CAT (apart from the sound) is to remove the restriction in the exhaust. the high flow cat still has a restriction but it is much less then that of the stock CAT though they tend to burn out quicker. the straight pipe.. is exactly that.. no restriction at all and completely free flow. for the absolute most hp gains you'd ideally get a straight pipe but that's up to you and if you're willing to find a way to pass emissions, deal with the smell, and loudness. i had a straight pipe before and i couldnt stand the smell, i just wanna know how many hp gain do i get with the high flow cat?? is it worth buying?? thanks in advance |
