2006 Shinka

I have something that sprayed up from in front of the engine that is bubling the paint on the engine and compartment parts and is causing rust to form on every surface. The car looked new, now it looks old. I've seen brake fluid do this but I can't tell where it's coming from and the reservoir is almost full.

What is the best way to take the air filter housing out so I can look under there?

Any ideas.

If its upfront, could be the coolant.

There is a DIY for the air filter/box removal...sounds like brake fluid to me! have you been in the shop lately or had any brake work done or done any yourself?

double that on brake fluid.

had to repaint my engine covers due to small amount of brake fluid touching it and eating up the paint.

brake fluid is very hygroscopic and clings to water very well... so simple hose off with water can remove any potentially harming brake fluid left on surface.

brake/clutch fluid is the only fluid under the engine compartment that will eat paint.

And you should make it a priority to fix the cause of the problem and get it repainted ASAP because it will continue to rust until you'll have big problems on your hands trust me. ive worked in a body shop all my life. rust is my worst enemy lol

I'd bet a dozen Root Beer that it is your battery offgassing that is causing the mystery paint removal / quick rusting.

If it is, your battery should be just about out of electrolyte (or you have had to change it in the last little while).

Pictures of the damage might help locate the source of the problem fluid/gas. Good theory Silver06. Could even be a leak in the battery. OP should remove the battery cover and check it out right away.

that's a very good theory, however im pretty sure our batteries are maintenance free. so unless the case on his is cracked, or he doesn't have the maintenance free battery, then it cant be the battery.

Maybe he took it to be serviced and someone sprayed something like to clean a part under his hood and now that is whats eating his paint. Or maybe he did it lol IDK...

Sealed lead acid batteries can outgas. I'm sure that the 8's battery could outgas as well; but i'd be very surprised if it could start the car after melting down to the point where it would do that.

I'm voting it's brake fluid.

I apologyze for not replying to your comments. I appreciate them very much. It wound up being the battery. I screwed up and over filled it when I serviced it. On my OEM battery you only want to have the lead plates covered, no more. I filled the cells up to the bottom of the neck and after racing arround some of the electrolyte sloshed out, dripped on to the unibelt and pullets and made a mess. Live and learn. Thanks again for your comments.

You could have an overcharging problem. Have it checked. Filling the cells to where you did should not cause acid to blow out.

why dont you get a sealed battery? im pretty sure thats what they come with from the factory...
