View Full Version : Exciting new Competition - Win a sCANalyser Pro Tuner!!

Hymee

Hi all,

Last time when I released sCANalyser Live 1.0, I ran a competition to come up with a name for the product. That was a great success and provided you - the RX-8 community - to have a little bit of you in my product. Trumagellan won the competition, and for his efforts he scored a free copy of sCANalyser Live 1.0, with the required hardware.

Now, for the past 3 years, I have been working on bringing a new product to market specifically for us RX-8 rotor nerds. It is the natural progression of sCANalyser Live, and really the whole point of that original project was to get here. I want you all to know, this product has been built from the ground up specifically for RX-8's.

So what is it?

sCANalyser Pro Tuner *

* Trademark Application Pending

sCANalyser Pro Tuner is a complete computer software and hardware application that allows you to:

Retrieve the EXACT engine management maps from your RX-8's PCM (Powertrain Control Module), otherwise known as the ECU
View the tuning maps both numerically and graphically (2D and 3D charts)
Edit the maps, such as fueling requirements, lead/trailing ignition advance, sensor calibrations, Idle speed, Fan speeds etc.
Save the maps onto your desktop PC or Laptop
Push the maps onto a special hardware device we call a brick. The brick is about the size of a matchbox, and plugs into the OBDII connector under your dash.
Reflash the new maps stored on the brick to the RX-8's PCM. This takes 20 seconds, and you don't even need to pop the hood or open your toolbox.
Use the brick to do "hands-off" data logging, just like a system used in a race car such as a MoTeC ECU.
Upload the logs to your Laptop or Desktop PC and graphically and numerically interpret the logged data.
Connect your laptop directly to the RX-8 via the brick for normal Scan-Tool functionality providing FAST real time gauges (perfect for a carputer), checking CEL codes, clearing CELs etc.

Now I have explain the product, what is the competition for?

Well, the prize for the winner of the competition is a FREE copy (including hardware) of the sCANalyser Pro Tuner suite. [Laptop/PC not included!!]

My website is now very outdated (http://www.hymee.com redirects you). I really need a fresh look and update with my current mainstream products. These are:

Hymee Enhanced RX-8 Cat-back Sports Exhaust system
Hymee Enhanced RX-8 Twin-Screw Supercharger system
Hymee Enhanced sCANalyser Live USB
Hymee Enhanced sCANalyser Pro Tuner

To enter the competition, please forward me a proposal to design and build me a new funky website. I would like your proposal to include a sample site mockup showing me a general arrangement and ideas for styles/graphics. You could do that in Word or PowerPoint if you like, but if you do a dummy HTML site for me to check out on my via my own IIS server that that would be great.

The sorts of things I would like to see addressed in the proposal are:

Tools required to maintain site (I am a software engineer by profession specialising in Windows/.NET technology. I'm web savvy, but not a day-day web developer.)
Ease of use in updating pages and product images etc.
Ease of use in adding additional pages, such as racing activities or photo galleries
Accessibility to my other sites (Hymee blog and forum)
Some form of Motorsport / Automotive Performance theme (that makes me all firm :))
Hymee Enhanced branding would be disireable, and also a reference to my company "Performance Design Australia" would be a nice touch.

I am not requiring a secure on-line shopping cart experience, but it would be intended to add simple PayPal purchasing functions later.

If you would like to enter the competition, please send me your proposal via email to mark at performancedesign dot com dot au. (Sorry to do that - but my old hymee at hymee dot com got out on the web and I get spammed something chronic - so bad that it appears I'm even spamming myself :()

Feel free to ask questions here about the competition. It probably isn't a good place to discuss the product, so I'll leave that for another thread.

Finally some history...

As I mentioned, this is something that I personally have been working towards for 5 years. 3 years ago another party got involved, but the results did not eventuate. I am now on my own again, and in control of my own destiny. So when I got to a point when I knew I was going to be able to make a product happen to allow for you to tune your RX-8's PCM without having to even open the hood, I made a "major" announcement (which can be found in here someplace). At the time, no one had released an RX-8 tuning/reflashing solution. More than once company said they were going to. Once company looked like they might, but it all seemed to go quiet. I made a commitment to the RX-8 community to release a beta version to a limited number of users within a small timeframe - and I hit that mark with only a small delay. Somehow I awoke the competition from their slumber - and next thing you know, another product was coming. Oh well. I could have given up then, but I persisted as I still believed I would have a superior product and solution. In fact, I was providing my beta testers around the world with a solution way before the competitor had anything for outside North America. And one of my first customers was in Germany and used his sCANalyser Pro Tuner to allow his RX-8's PCM to control the engine management fucntions for his turbo'ed Renesis engine - no piggy back required.

So now my beta phase is coming to a close, and I have more and more people wanting this - hence I decided it is time for a re-vamp of my web site, and an opportunity for you to have a crack at it and win yourself your very own sCANalyser Pro Tuner suite.

What da ya reckon???

Cheers,
Hymee.

The Force is not strong in this one for website design. :banghead:

Either way, I'm excited to see more things coming out from you Mark and look forward to the new site. C'mon guys, lets see what you guys have got.

Although I'm no where near a web-developers level of tech savvy, this most likely requires minimal scripting, and potentially could be maintained using freeware tools on the internet.

If I get some free time I'll try to come up with something, but I don't want anything too graphically intense (for bandwidth preservation)

Do you have any graphics/logos you would like to see incorporated?

Only problem with freeware tools and such is that it might present a false impression(price wise) and then as things grow and the site needs to develop more, you have to start dropping cash. This sometimes gets upsetting when it looks like all the sudden you have jacked the price for development and/or running the site.

I did a couple of sites for some travel agent friends and other people and while I didn't run into this issue per say, it has to be considered. What I did run into was expansion of site...needing more bandwidth......hence more server space(mo money).

Just for one example. It really depends on how detailed you want/need to be.

Hymee, I'll pass on the website design but I will offer my services to manage your firewall moving forward  :eyetwitch :banghead:  :Eyecrazy:

I still can't get to your website from my home. Please tell your provider to unblock the USA. It's okay to trust us, mostly.

Frustrating part is that I'm a Comcast business customer and I'm blocked. I pay high dollar for a static IP and Hymee's provider won't let me past the front door.

I sure hope so, because otherwise I'm really in the wrong line of business. Best of luck Hymee on this... I would offer to do it, but honestly I'm so freaking busy these days I don't have time to even do a mockup let alone the real site. I also haven't worked with .NET in a few years. I went over to the dark side and I'm all J2EE/Flex on Solaris these days.

What kind of CPU and Memory power do we need to run the gauges in "Live" mode with no lag?

paulmasoner
01-06-2009, 10:51 PM
from my limited knowledge, shouldnt be enough to be concerned with...

Nemesis8
01-06-2009, 10:58 PM
I know, I'm running his older software, and my laptop sucks being a PIII at 867MHz. Just curious if this is coded for better speed with lesser hardware driving it, than the sCANalyser Live product.

Hymee
01-06-2009, 11:00 PM
What kind of CPU and Memory power do we need to run the gauges in "Live" mode with no lag?

The "old" sCANalyser Live was probably more bound by serial port comms limitations, whereas the new one is USB based.

If you want to monitor coolant temp, then set that to refresh once per second as it changes slowly over time.

Cheers,
Hymee.

paulmasoner
01-06-2009, 11:06 PM
Hymee i think what he's asking is what kind of processing power would be required to recieve interprut and then display LIVE gauge monitoring - ie proccessing power required to keep up displaying the live data feed at X refresh rate... not so much data rates that the comm method can provide.

thats why i said not enough to worry about..

Nemesis8
01-06-2009, 11:10 PM
^ Correct

USB would definitely be better for me, I have your older serial port brick. But my real limitation is my abacus of a laptop I have. LOL

paulmasoner
01-06-2009, 11:13 PM
well figure this... the AP can do it.... its very unlikely that it has more raw processing power than your abacus... but alot could depend on how the software is written... i still wouldnt think it'd be a need for concern

question: this product still will have the same limit of 100 PCM flashes that people have encountered right?

Also, what is the sample rate if we were to log only one PID? like 50-80? and then each additional PID will effectively divide that sample rate by the number of parameter's logged, correct?

zoom44
01-12-2009, 02:58 PM
the limit is in the renasas chip in the pcm its not a function of the tuning device. however Cobb has flashed a single pcm more than 100 as has Hymee. Both have found a limit. the 100 flash limit its Spec'd for is cautionary. the actual limit varies chip to chip.

Jedi54
01-12-2009, 03:29 PM
