Flashwing 12-17-2008, 03:29 PM So long to a crappy car. I'm curious how much longer they will be on the road before the cost to maintain them skyrockets past buying a new car. Clearly support for them will not be as easy with them not being made in the US anymore. The fact is, people don't want to buy or drive cars like this if they don't have to. This is a classic case of the market influencing car production and once again it's showing people are not overly interested in supposed eco-friendly cars. alfy28 12-17-2008, 03:33 PM Now THAT I have to see... lol i tried to look at my posting history, it must of fell off. because i cant find it. but i know alot of the members like jedi and them might have it in their history. ill go do a search, hopefully ill find it. altspace 12-17-2008, 03:40 PM I believe the article states that Toyota is simply not going to manufacture the car in the new plant, not that the car will go away completely. Icemark 12-17-2008, 03:47 PM I believe the article states that Toyota is simply not going to manufacture the car in the new plant, not that the car will go away completely. Exactly right... I think some of the other posters didn't read the article. This is a new plant that Toyota was building, to build (originally) the Highlander Hybrid, and then the 2011 Pirus and Lexus version of the same car. It is not that Toyota is shutting down a line, they are in-fact still building the plant, and just not starting production until it is needed. The turd known as the Pirus will still be made, and imported in record numbers. zoom44 12-17-2008, 07:44 PM Clearly support for them will not be as easy with them not being made in the US anymore. The fact is, people don't want to buy or drive cars like this if they don't have to. well first off the weren't built here in the first place- this was to ADD capacity because of the demand for the car in the states. now that the overall car market is down they are simply not going to start production when they planned so they dont end up with a glut. Up here they sell everyone they can stick on the lots. there is a very short supply which keeps the demand high enough to sell without incentives. People here and throughout the US clearly WANT this car. Earl the Pearl 12-30-2008, 07:39 PM So long to a crappy car. I don't know, the majority I see are driven by tree huggers with pro planet bumper stickers. Usually they are in the fast line puttering along at 55 holding traffic up. devildog1679 12-31-2008, 02:26 PM My in law has owned two, she sold her previous one for only 5K less hen she paid. When I wrecked my 8 I drove it for a whole month. Must say it was nice to only fill up once versus three times, though the car was lethargic. |
