I am thinking of buying a 2005 RX 8 and I like that it has the two back seats. I was just wondering how it feels back there. I am 6 foot, would I have much leg room? Not that I will ever be sitting back there but I am just asking for my friends and family.
Another question I have is, does the car require premium fuel or any other kinds of care different form a normal car?

1) I'm 6'5, and I rode in the back of an RX-8 yesterday.
2) Premium is the recommended fuel, it's the only thing I put in my 8.

this car is a bit different then a traditional piston engine since it uses oil to lubricate the rotor seals.(ie; burns oil by design which means you have to top off)

There's alot more room back there than people think. I am 5'9 and there's plenty of room back there for an extra 3 inches wouldn't make to much of a difference in my opinion unless your whole family is tall. As far as the premium thing goes, it's highly recommended but you don't have to, 89 octane works for most people but some others say it didn't work so well. My philosophy is this, why in the hell would you go buy a 29-32 thousand dollar car and put whats less than recommended in the car? If your pinching pennies for 10 or 20 extra cents on gas you probably shouldn't be buying this or any other car that wants premium. And next time, please use the search option, your forgiven this time since it's your first post.

The back seats are pretty much real back seats, it's not a 2+2 where only really small people fit in the back. If the person in front is tall and the person in back is tall as well, leg room could get tight, but it's got more room than you would think.

91+ octane for best performance, and really, why not? You can--and people do--use regular gas. But it will hurt performance, and the 8 is a performance car after all.

 

so for feeding an 8 gas...what bout the middle gas one..plus i believe sum call it...
i think it goes. regular.plus.premium. so whats the advantages of premium in long term? i was reading the manual for the car or whatever and says use premium for extra performance and regular works just fine. what about plus. don't quote me but that its the way im reading/taking it all in.

 

buy premium. The car is recommended to use it, so use it. Personally, I only put in exxon or shell premium

 

yeah top off with oil, and try n keep everything in tip top shape for superior performance...

 

1) There seems to me more room in back than front - the headroom is higher and if the front passengers ride a bit forward, it's quite comfortable back there. Ain't going to make any babies back there unless you're a circus act, but fine for trips.

2) It says "premium recommended". When gas went above 2.20/gallon three years ago, I stopped buying it premium and ran it on a steady diet of 87 and it never blinked, nor could I notice ANY performance difference.

I would say use a high quality BRAND of gas, but there is no noticable difference on premium, in my experience.

 

Don't Call it just middle grade.

Middle Grade in Jersey at some stations is 89.

So its 87, 89, 93

The Sunoco near me had 87, 89, 91, 93
I'd always ask for 91 since it didnt have a special company name

But then I realized 91 was only $.05 cheaper then 93. So been running 93 ever since

 

Nebraska is a Ethanol state so we have Ethanol in our 89 and 91 grades... might be cheaper but it also decreased fuel economy by 10%

 

IL, where I am, has E10 in all three grades. Blows goats.

 

You dont post location. Just go to ur local Mazda dealer and sit in one. Its roomier than you think.

 

yeah they are pretty roomy 6'2 and i fit ok as long as another tall person is sitting in the front...just put the premium 91 or higher fuel in it it's recommended and ends up beinge like 2 bucks more a tank so it is worth it.

 

Im 6'6, I fit. However the seat behind me is pointless for anyone other than a 5'2'' 95 lb girl when Im driving lol.

My friends all say its comfortable back there.

 

Search is your friend. gas discussion has about 1.3 billion threads already going. The backseats exist, but if a 6'+ was in front seat, rarely will a 6' person be able to "comfortably" sit in the backseat. can it be done, yes and I have done so as I am sure other members have had the same scenario, but its no limo back there

 

Very true, everyone fits with moderate comfort, but with 4 full grown adults (5'8'' +), It is *snug* and kinda claustophobic.....

 

Obviously, your best bet is to find an 8 and sit back there. That said, I think you would be comfortable if a short person—say 5'5" or less—was sitting in front of you. Also you have to factor in your leg length. Some 6-footers have a 32" inseam, others may have, what… 35"? Long torso/short legs beats short torso/long legs. And, of course, you have to consider trip length; while a 3-hour drive might prove uncomfortable, a 20-minute ride might be a piece of cake. Finally, keep in mind that the 8 has relatively small rear windows. Some feel it's cool—like you're in a private jet—while others find the little windows make them more claustrophobic.

 

yeah u need to head out to the local meets and sit in one and see what it feels like!!!!!!!

 

in all honesty, first off, WOW 6'5 for jedi, and the backseats are fine, comfortable even, but no 2 or 3+ hour long road trips without stretching, my 2 cents.
