I was thinking we should have something like this, most other groups have one and they do pretty nice. They are fun and we all get to see each others rides. I was thinking on setting one up for Rx8s if everyone else had an interest. Maybe get a few other people besides my self and come up with some rules for posting their cars like a minimum limit of ## pictures with ones being a front, side, rear, and angle picture. This would allow us to judge all cars equally. But then have it where you can post ## of pictures with your desire angle or whatever.

I would be happy to run this with peoples help, i would also like to donate a prize to each months winner. Prize being a car care product of whatever value. This would hopefully get more people involved and make it funner. If you guys have more ideas or comments post them up. As you can see im doing a turbo build this winter and hopefully have the whole car done with exterior by March so i can participate in this and hopefully win one! :lol:

I agree, was gonna post this up too. Have a guide line so every entrant can be judged with the same aspect. I thought we could have the first 2-3 weeks of each month for people to post up their pictures and then we can organize them and then set up a poll. Do you know how many entries we can have per poll??

Adding to this thread, I think we should have different themes every month. Like Nuke mentioned, one month should be for the best interior, the other exterior, one for performance, wheels, etc.

Why did it fail?

it failed i think 3 or 4 times......between the nominations and the voting.....search in the general section and i think you might find them

yeah, type in "rx8 of the month" in an advanced search for titles only and you get a few of the ones that have been attempted.

Well does it hurt to try again?? It be nice even if we get 10-15 people every month. but its up to everyone i guess.

well personally i know it will be hard out there for people to imitate a car that has been modded right. For one the money you have put in it, not many people are doing that and arent going to do it just to copy you. (NOT you, you..) And in the good side i think its cool that people want to do what you did to your car to theirs, it shows that your doing the right thing and people like it.

Well if you guys feel that if you post pictures of your car your gonna get copied then by all means dont participate. I just feel that everyone at one point has copied somebody not just to COPY but cause they had something that looked great and you just liked it as well. And for the bad comments to peoples car yeah i understand i hate it when people just say "not my taste" and then dont post why its not their tastes. People will always be biased but we cant help that. Were here to have fun and post each others cars.

I am gonna go through this if i can help some help from some other people willing to do this as well. We will set some rules so people feel save and dont have to get trashed about their cars and what not. So if you want to help me out in anyway please PM me.

We should have a dedicated couple days (IE DEC 12-14) and a trusted member to PM. Then have that member pick the 10 RX8's with the highest votes, then start a bracket. :)


Maybe have a preliminary thread of just pics to show everyone each members car in detail in one location to make it easy as opposed to searching.

something like this can only work well if the decision making is left up to the moderators of the site. No voting, the mods/admin just contact people with nice 8's and do a little write up and if possible photoshoot.

i used to mod for a site back in the day(jdmcivic.com) and we did something similar. we ended up stopping because we got lazy and our admin moved on to bigger and better things(jtuned).

here is what we should do:

make a nomination thread. you submit 3 pics: interior, exterior, and engine bay. also a list of your mods.

after a certain number of days, we create a voting thread.

some rules for the thread should be no bashing other people's cars. people should be able to post their cars no matter how bad or stock they are. Mods would have to help us with that rule and such posts should be reported.

the same person should not be able to "win" more than once a year. at the end of the year maybe someone could compile the best pics and make a "best RX8" calendar or something.

I was thinking something like;

People would post up a link to an album specifictly for the ROTM. Then we (ROTM crew) would compile a Thread with the pictures we think are the best and post some info about the owners. Then once we got it done, the Thread is open for JUST votes, there would be no other comments besides the person you are voting for. Or if its a poll you vote and post a comment that is meant for all the participants. If you do/dont like a car for whatever reason you keep that to your self. We only want the VOTE not the reason why you chose it. This would hopefully keep all the drama and hate off the thread and make it fun for everyone.

At the end of the month we would name the winner and edit original thread and post up all the good pictures of the winner and more info about him. Then i would send the prize along with anything anyone would like to donate.

We could possibly start some shirts or something, local guy works at a place that does that and he could make good designs! 3DZukini lol

Rules would be;
1. Must show front,side,rear,engine bay, and interior. + participants choices.
2. Keep personal comments to each other and no poking fun of other participants.
3. Have fun

If it were a bracket system, Lets say you made it to the sweet sixteen, then you would not be eligible for nomination for 6 months that would cut down on the same cars everymonth as well...

There are so many killer RX-8s here it may be tough. I also think it works better in other automotive forums that have more than just one model car.

1.Your gonna get a ton of participants anyway

3.Everyone will challenge the judges. If you have 10 judges or so you have, what? about 1.000 people that are gonna be in contention, eventually all votes will be void because they will all get vetoed out...

Have a Voting day, each user can vote once and not for their own car.

Then, have the mods count the votes to pick the top 5 then start a poll. Easy.

judges will not work. it should be the people's pick.

Anyone who participates will be a regular and I bet we can all name the 12 people off the top of our heads that will win for the first year (maybe not in order, so that would be the only real surprise). I think that is another reason it failed before.

what i mean when you do something like this you got to have a good photo. otherwise it be pointless cause if picture sucks it will be hard to see what the car really looks like.

this already is failing, first we went with RX8 of the month, now your excluding the mod list, and now its just pic of the month that happens to have an 8 in it,,, Well DonJuan and Altspace congrates on Jan and Feb,,,,

everyone posted their oppinoins and i tried to make it so it suited everyone. all i wanted was for people to post pics of their cars. i, us, we vote on the best car keeping our oppinion to our selfs. we name winner, and we go on. idc about mods they got or w.e its all about the best looking rx8 not the most modded. even though a modded one could win. but it got more complicated cause people kept posting options which i dont mind trying to workaround them just makes it hard to keep everyone happy.

I already tried this a long time ago. Some people forget it already.

It didn't work in short because someone cheated. He had friends sign up and vote for him. That sucked the fun out of it.

For it to work FOR REAL, we need a sub-forum and it needs to be moderated. I volunteered to do this and sent NUMEROUS PM's to mods about setting this up and no ever replied to me.

We also need some sort of "recognition" for the winners- 8Club doesn't have a front page to display them so we need something implemented for the winners, like their picture on the index page.

So I did it myself for three months. it went fine for the first 2 months but the 3rd month it got out of hand.

If we can get a sub-section in the forum setup exclusively for this, and it was moderated, it would work. But that won't happen.

I think the voters would need to be invite only. Perhaps someone could somehow allow access to a select few 100 - 200 members who are "enthusiastic" and "Quality Human beings" and "Truly represent the best of the RX8 club". Perhaps a hidden thread, or area for voting?

For example, a hidden tier invisible to regular members, but available to "Proper and mature members" and of course I would choose to believe that this requirement is met by almost all of rx8club members (How's that for a CYA disclaimer?)

Promote quality, and you raise the benchmark!

These sound like good ideas to me as well......I think having good quality judges who will actually take the time to look at all or most of the cars submitted is better than just seeing who gets the most votes by whoever.....

Should be interesting to see if the works out this time around.

You won't post pics of your car unless you have the chance of winning something? Come on, this is an RX-8 community. We are here to share and show off our rides. Why is everyone so worried about being copied (no offense deedubs) or not winning something. Just post pics for the fun of it. We want to see them.

The RX-8 is a fairly rare car, and I think that's the main reason this won't work. There just aren't enough nicely modded cars to make it unpredictable. The thing is, we're a pretty tight knit community, we all know who has the kick ass cars and they already get the recognition here on the forum.

We do this over on RotaryCarClub.com...works very well for us.

If you read his mods/parts, you can clearly replicate everything he has. He did not list anything custom or special. Those would be the harder parts to replicate.
