Esmeril Turbo, installing my self. 40% done. Im stuck on this one DAMN bolt that just wont come loose. The top bolt on the engine mount. :banghead: Then everything should be easier to do. Interceptor X has 3 maps, gonna use the dd one along with the 6psi? spring.. I still need a boost controller along with some guages, prob aem wide. I will update as much as i can. I will need some help so tune in and answer my questions if you can.

Good luck :) I think you're supposed to start off at a lower psi to slowly break in your motor/seals, like 3-4 psi. From what I've read, and I'm no expert, but it's easy to ruin your motor buy not taking your time breaking it in. BUT, after it's broken in.... I gotta drive it ;P

whut? His car is brand new with 0 miles on it? If not, why worry about breaking it in when it's already broken in.

12-01-2008, 07:25 PM
well i just plan to run it at 6psi since there is snow/ice on ground already. not gonna go higher till i get the esmeril fuel system upgrade, the bhr ignistion, and meth. just to be safe. also this gonna be a dd car on low easy boost, and hopefully i can replicate the same numbers they (esmeril) is getting with their setup. that will be for road racing, and auto cross. if it can handle it.

what side drivers/passenger side on the one bolt ur having issues with? I'm at the end of my "custom top mounted" turbo set up on my 8 as well. Hit me on pms. I can probably help you out.

I had a "great time" snaking my manifold. I'm left with designing my dp.

LOL, I don't really know what I'm talking about... just my way of telling him not to blow his motor up. I'm local, he knows me... and he knows I don't have the slightest clue what I'm talking about :) Good luck with the install dude, I can't wait to drive this thing :lol2:
By the way, anybody want to help me with out with a map for the Cobb I just bought off WhiteSnowflake8? I know nothing about tuning and I don't want to screw it up. I have all Racing Beat parts so far... ram air, intake, midpipe, dual exhaust. Basically I want to learn how to tune down the afr, but if someone has already made a good base map for these parts, no harm in asking, right?

actually i got this haltech software that might be able to make maps. willc how it goes. ill be giving it a try again tomorrow and going to work and fabbing a few things.

cause i got a hell of a deal. also they arent knock offs just off brand products. and as youcan see they perform better than that greddy kit. lol ;p .... also if any parts go bad i can replace them for cheaper. i know exactly where ican find the same turbo and parts for hella cheap.

I think Rex8 is referring to this thread... http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=158298&page=4 That guy's not had very good luck with the kit, hopefully his was just a fluke manufacturing error.

Meh first person with this problem, so it means ALL are defected?? I guess your greddy sucks too.... Remember just cause one fails, don't mean all do. And if i get that trouble i have all winter to get an authentic turbonetics t70.

Also does anyone know how to get a 10mm nut off? i got it stripped and im FUCKED..

Craftsman has a set of rounded off nut/bolt remover. I had to do the same on my rounded 10mm dp nut.

I know my greddy turbo kit sucks, never said it didn't. Easy to upgrade though. :)

The logic just doesnt make sense,,, start off with cheap parts, if those break, because they're cheap, you'll replace them with cheaper parts? does this make sense to anyone else...
Good Luck though...

So they are cheap, yet you see anyone else running same power levels with more expensive parts? NO. Cheap can be good sometimes, go look at the Rx7club forums and you will see many people running "cheap" turbos on their Fcs for drifting and they making good power levels and having a good running car. If the part is cheap and performs right then you have to be STUPID to spend 4x more on something that performs just as good. If you have the money to do it, then go ahead. But im 19 and ill have a car that performs "as" good as most of you people with "NON CHEAP" parts. Oh well, and like i said. If anything breaks i DO got the money to buy authentic, just why bother doing it now when i can get something for less than half the cost??

I actually do not know if they are infact ebay, but that Al guy was and is the first person to encounter them problems. So if NO one would of encountered them problems then nobody would be saying they are cheap, knock offs, or whatever. And like you said, your greddy is so easy to upgrade, Isnt mine too?? i mean if turbo sucks, can't i just buy a "authentic"?, what about Waste/bov, TiAl has same wastegate with same "V clamps" and bov. So if i didn't want "cheap" parts i could upgrade to those, but ill wait for mine to go boom before spending unnecessary money. Just like what your doing with that greddy

Hey man, different strokes for different folks,
Just keep us posted on the running tab and cost of your kit when you finally realize you have all the parts you need to run it without blowing up. I bet it cost you more over the long hall then.
To me this is just the same logic when people buy knock off bodykits and wonder why when they go to the body shop it cost so much to fit the kit and make it look good, those people always end up spending more than the people whom bought the authentic.
Im not trying to attack you but your thinking just doesnt make sense at all... Bandaids may not be able to fix it, thats all...
Again good luck,,,

No your logic is wrong, your attacking Esmeril kit because one guy had a bad experience. Please post up all the other bad experiences and shit that has gone wrong with peoples turbo kits. i guarantee you, you wont find many. I personally haven't seen anyone with problems, except that "one" guy. So far i have $4,300 spent on this kit. Which i really don't think ill have to upgrade anything soon. Kit was used and guy ran his perfectly. At end if your "cheap" parts go out, i can spend about 750 and get a TiAl waste/bov. then another 1500 for a turbo. Id spend about 7k for a "better" parts and stock piping. not bad at all. Iv spent about that on the car already, Yes NO knock off shit goes on my cars exterior. Except that turbo!!!! :icon_no2:
But my logic is simple, I plan to break, burn, destroy most of the parts on my engine trying to reach HIGH hp. So rebuild, new turbos, all that is on my list of things to do/get. Im building a fast track ready rx8 so got to expect all that.

Thanks for the good luck, i need it for this damn stripped nut :banghead:

Why not just buy an engine build it up first to handle the higher hp, then buy your turbo and drop it in???

I am not talking about that thread actually. There were some other threads on here making the ebay parts claims. Al's thread alone did not influence me to think they were ebay parts. It was just something discussed more than once.... ;)

yes, it has been done
when importshowoff had it in his car before he sold it, the shop he had install it relocated it out of harms way. I believe Joliet Wankel bought the kit and is selling it right now, complete with the relocated wastegage.

cool, i hope people who have the kit can relocate the wastegate, just incase, you never know. someone in NJ has the kit, and he bumped it and ruinned it little bit, he also burn the hood:Eyecrazy: ...o well, i am happy that there are more people put turbo in their 8, good luck man, make sure tune it right..

was it the bracket that holds the lower radiator hose?

esmeril had instructions to bend it out of the way. maybe its that.

I had a bit of fun taking the manifold out yesterday, I can't wait to put it back in haha!

Bend the radiator support up and then twist it towards the passenger side fender. Also, the small bracket that holds some hard lines can also get in the way, it sits directly below where the turbo will end up. Good luck, and hope all works for you!

Well ill give it a try tomorrow morning, though it will just be me. But either way if we dont hit the sway bar, we hit the frame. It just so tight that its unbelievable we have a another huge pipe that has to go back too.

WhiteSnowflake8
12-09-2008, 01:56 AM
I have to find a way to route it out of harm, right now it will prob stick out about 2-3 inches below sub frame plate. I know Joilet just did a shady tube welded longer or something, but ill try to put my engineering head to work.
