Suggestions on what you guys think the insurance could be? Do they consider it a sports car or a sedan or both?

im pretty sure they view it as a sportscar... and unfortunately a TWO DOOR.... lame i know... anyways... i'm 18 with pretty good coverage from allstate... no points no nothing also and i pay 266 a month.... however.... im not "on" the rx8 im "on" our old lexus gs300 4 door worthless sedan. im still insured on the rx8 if something were to happen but im not assigned to it, my mom is because it was cheaper that way. if you plan on being assigned to it, plan on paying a lot. if you have insurance friendly cars in the family it will be to your advantage since they can "assign" some1 else to your car and you to another car.... however the fact that you are 18 and a male means your insurance is going to be high anyways..

dont even try if your on your own plan tho haha... i used to pay 194 a month when i had my 86 porsche but they told me if i was by myself i'd be paying 500 a month....

hope that helped :)

I'm 36, married with children... clean record, model "driver" as far as insurance companies are concerned and I've got a decent rate full coverage wise with Progressive.

While going through the motions the agent and I were discussing the pitfalls of the American Male youth. At one point he commented on how it is practically impossible for an 18 year old guy to get insurance (primary) in our car.

If you're parents are loaded or you've got a nice little fund to withdraw from I guess you'll manage. Otherwise, good luck.. that was the message.

Rates are also driven by city. What part of CT do you live?

I have Ameriprise - call them for a quote - I've found them to be the most competitive. Ph# 888.404.5365.

Don't skimp on coverage to save $ - CT minimum requirements is 20/40/10 which is extremely low. I recommend 250/500/100 or at the very least 100/300/100.

I really got lucky in terms of insurance.

I am the sole driver on my policy. I live in New York City and definitely not in the best of neighborhoods.

Being 21, I pay $150/month with State Farm.

That is with a crapload of discounts though.. Being 21+, 3yrs driving experience+, Good Driver Discount, SF Steer Clear discount, Accident Driver Prevention course discount, Multiple line discount, Multiple automobile (in household) discount, Safety discount and ABS discount.

Like I said I was lucky and I only got this rate because a few strings were pulled ;)

I pay around $115 per month for two vehicles fully covered. Sorry to see some of you having to pay so much :(

StyleRide,

Your best bet would be to call the insurance company. Also if you are living with your parents then use the same company they do and you may get a discounted rate.

maybe I should try state farm then.

Im 28, 4 and will be 5 years of driving experience @ jan, has defensive driving course, Multiple automobile, safety and ABS. with GEICO I pay 1100 for my car and about 800 for my 08 FIT every 6 months. Had one ticket in 2006 I think. but it was just a stop sign, it didnt effect my geico rates.

Damn damn damn ...

I'm always amazed at what people pay in insurance. Not saying that people don't shop around enough, but some don't.

To the OP... go online / call as many insurance companies as you can and hammer that rate down.

yup i pay 4k a year for car insurance.

Please trust me when i say i looked around but theres nothing i can do. Im 21 and i live in the worst part of manhattan and statefarm was the cheapest.

After i do 6 months with statefarm im gonna shop around again......Theres really nothing i can do unless anyone has any suggestions.

Yes my insurance is the same as my car payment. Thats life and i have to deal.

Good thing i make enough money to afford it but i wish i could get it lower though.

no one here can tell you unless they're a broker in your area and have your details...
Go and actually call one or get a quote online...people here are telling you what they're paying which, most likely, will not apply to you

Curious if your rates are approximately the same with a different car?

I pay about $1k here in San Diego with Geico, which includes a Mensa discount of I have no idea how much percent. One thing to keep in mind about Geico, is that they do NOT have any coverages available that I would consider umbrella range. If you're looking for total protection of assets for property damage or personal injury, Geico is not the place to go.

Paying $890/6mo so roughly $150/mo with two tickets in last 5 years with GEICO. Nobody was more than $1k / 6 months when I looked.

You're not alone my friend.

when I first got my car about 3 yrs ago. I hate to pay 1800 almost 1900 for 6 months. I live in a good neighborhood in queens. and 1st yr on my license

(I know how to drive long time ago, but never had a chance to get my license, oh well)

it was Geico. Its the cheapest. Allstate wants 3.4 K for 1/2 yr. I was like. are you guys outa your "fuxking" mind ? Progressive was like 2.3 K I think

then after 6 months. Geico charging me 1.5 or 1.6K , the rest are still more expensive.

No accident, 1 minor ticket. thats about it. oh and Im 28 now. 4 yrs of license almost 5.

The car has a big role in insurnace price too. I just got a new Honda FIT, and it cost 700 something to insured, and Im paying about 1.1K for my 8every 6 months. same full coverage, and my 8 still cost couple hundred more even its more than 3 yrs old !! :(

NY has always been one of the most expensive state to insured. Too many crappy drivers on the road. eg : left hand on cell phone while right hand on coffee cup (notice, no hands on steering wheel, I seen it myself), cell phones all the way, looking in the mirror for pimples not on the road, etc.

I just bought a 2009 RX8..anyway, my insurance broker told me, my insurance will be roughly $90/mth..sorry to hear you guys paying a crackload of money on your cars.

Then again, I'm in my 30's with no violations in the past 15 years. ...but I feel with this car..I might actually get my first speeding ticket :(.

17 years old male clean record.

rx8 insurance should be pretty low.

for my friend it was 1200 a year.

im currently drivng a 2004 expedition and payin 700 every 6 months, i was quoted for 750-800 every 6 months on a 2008 rx8.

reasons for low rate

SOME insurance companies see rx8 as: 1.3 liters, very safe (traction control, more than front passenger air bags, lots of safety features etc...), 4 doors (so not a full out sports car). and its considered a 2 cylinder, so they see it as not having much power.

Yea man......

I got full coverage and i wont settle for nothing less because you just never know. I only have a year on my license but i been driving for way longer just like you i have no parking space so i park it on the street and trust me i shopped around i even tried to get the "hook up" but even they were charging me the same.

For 6/mo i pay like 2100 or something like that but you have to understand that i have the best coverage......and to them im a no experiance driver in a city full of retarded drivers and no one wants to take the risk to insure me unless im paying a crap amount.

You know whats funny that after 6 months im gonna shop around again but i just got into an accident.....im fucking toast.....im going to have to pull something out my ass to get my payments lower (i think i got a way though)

On the note about it being an rx8.....fuck yea it is cause i had a 3000gt and they were charging me like $200/mo and i had like 3months on my license so its definitely the car.

I'm 21 on my Dad's State Farm policy, but under my own name and pay for it myself, I've had 3 speeding tickets I crashed my RX-8 (don't worry just the bumper got hurt she is alright) and I only pay $139.00 a month.

I have many discounts on the line though and since I turned 21 it went down otherwise I was paying like $175.00

I'm 19 with state farm, nothing on my record. Got the good student discount and everything. Talk with your agent about having you as the primary driver for another car in your family. I'm listed as the primary driver on a 2008 Legacy so that helps alot. My mom is listed as the primary driver for my 8. So when I bought the 8 over my old Audi A6, my rates only went up like 10 dollars a month.

State Farm does list the RX-8 as a 4-door so I think that helps too. It gets alot of rebates for its safety features too. RX-8 is probably the cheapest sports car to insure.

You guys should check to see if you qualify for any group discounts with your current company. When I was with Liberty Mutual in Massachusetts I got between 5-10% for being an alumni of my university, with Geico in California I get a discount for being a member of Mensa America.

Yea speaking to agents helps a lot, dont just go online because there is a lot of discounts the agent can give you that you wont see online.
