Basically I was a dumb *** and forgot to tighten everything down, after bedding in my brakes I inspected the calipers and brake pads only to notice that the hinge to open the caliper was open, and that the bolt head holding it shut was broken off. I already failed at using an "easy out" to get the bolt out of the socket. So my last option is to oder it from the dealership. I couldn't find the part number online or in the service manual. Does anyone know if I can order it individually from Mazda? (I will die if I have to buy a whole new caliper to get that one part.)


I circled the part in red for a reference, I know this is a long shot so any help will be much appreciated!

boyd: I looked and I don't have the part number handy. all you need is the screw that holds the slider bolt or do you also need the slider bolt and rubber sleeve?

Those numbers are the "reference designators" for the components.
To the right you'll see the part number under the ref des (format is xxxx-xx-xxx).

I hate to resurrect an old thread, but I'm having an issue finding the correct part.

I was swapping pads last weekend when I noticed the lower slide pin on one side was tight. The dust boot had come loose, and there was corrosion (rust) on the pin and inside the bore. I cleaned it up best I could, and re-lubed, but figured I'd go above and beyond and replace the slide pin.

Boyd had originally posted a drawing with a part circled in red, lower slide pin, which has the little black rubber sleeve on it. That's the part I was after to repair my caliper, so I looked in the Mazda parts diagrams, which show a slightly different part, 33-694. I figured, "no big deal, they just left off the detail of the rubber sleeve in the larger assembly drawing". Well, I ordered a 33-694 from Montgomery Mazda, and what I got in the mail today was a lower caliper slide bolt, sure enough, but with no rubber sleeve, and no recess for the sleeve.

What's the deal - did any of you guys determine the correct Mazda part number for the lower slide pin with the rubber sleeve? Or has Montgomery sent me the incorrect part?

I also have this question. I went to change my pads back to street last night and found a pin stuck. I didnt want to pull it out fully without having a good one to put back in. However, I noticed one of the other pins had a rubber sleeve on it, but two other just had notched slots down the length. I was curious if anyone knew if the pins where interchangeable.

 

I don't know if it will help you, but the pin I ordered from Montgomery will NOT fit in the caliper. I checked it this weekend, and it appears to be loo large in diameter to fit. I ended up cleaning up the pin with the rubber sleeve with an emery cloth (take the sleeve off first), and then re-greasing, but it still seems very tight compared to the one on the opposite side of the car. I was going to try my local Mazda parts counter and see if they can find the part number of the one with the rubber sleeve.

33-692 is the rubber part number.

Just take the diagram down to Mazda and show them what you want.

 

33-692 is the part number for the rubber dust boot on the slide pin. The rubber sleeve I was referring to is shown on the first illustration in the post, which indicates it is to be replaced along with the dust boot. The rubber sleeve slides on to a recessed area on the slide pin. The slide pin part 33-694 shown in the detail drawing does not have the recessed area for the rubber sleeve, and is not the correct diameter to fit in the caliper.

The early parts diagrams didn't show the bolt for the rear calipers. It's the same as the bolt for the front calipers.

I was changing the breaks on my car and the caliper bolt snapped in half, we got a easy out but we can't drill deep enough into the bolt to get it to work. Are there any other things we can do to fix this?
