View Full Version : K&N 69 Series Typhoon Kit WTBRotary! 10-04-2008, 04:51 AM So i was thinking about getting the Typhoon kit for my RX-8, but for $320 roughly with taxes, do yall think its a benefit or just a want? is it worth it? Spinning Sushi 10-04-2008, 04:57 AM No. You can if you want a louder sounding car but as for gains, you get 3-4 whp. The stock intake is really good right now. Do a search, find out why intakes don't do much for our cars. newguy 10-05-2008, 03:25 PM ive searched and was wondering if the REVi intake and the Mushimoto CF intake also only make 5 hp. So a K&N drop in is it worth 5 also? greg985 10-05-2008, 05:51 PM I have the typhoon doesnt do much for power, but I love the sound it gives Race Roots 10-05-2008, 07:36 PM The K&N has a lot of top end power so you wont notice the difference until 7k+ And if you guys are interested in Intakes let me know! We have them here! (https://www.fluidmotorsports.com/p-101-air-intake.aspx) And if you PM me I sometimes give lower prices than whats posted on the site! WTBRotary! 10-05-2008, 08:51 PM since i started this thread i feel its ok to change the topic a little, i have a friend that does not like cold air intakes saying that if any water gets on or around them it could cause serious problems to your engine because water doesnt compress like air... anyone have their 2 cents on this??? because i wouldnt mind the cold air over the typhoon kit but i wanta be able to drive in the rain... so... greg985 10-05-2008, 09:35 PM since i started this thread i feel its ok to change the topic a little, i have a friend that does not like cold air intakes saying that if any water gets on or around them it could cause serious problems to your engine because water doesnt compress like air... anyone have their 2 cents on this??? because i wouldnt mind the cold air over the typhoon kit but i wanta be able to drive in the rain... so... you can drive in the rain, just dont go splashing through any big pudels Race Roots 10-05-2008, 09:44 PM And with the placement of the filter and the Engine Under Tray you will be fine. WTBRotary! 10-05-2008, 10:53 PM And with the placement of the filter and the Engine Under Tray you will be fine. Engine Under Tray??? and if i do consider the cold air intake, which is better it or the typhoon kit?:uhh: StuttgartRX8 10-06-2008, 08:56 AM since i started this thread i feel its ok to change the topic a little, i have a friend that does not like cold air intakes saying that if any water gets on or around them it could cause serious problems to your engine because water doesnt compress like air... anyone have their 2 cents on this??? because i wouldnt mind the cold air over the typhoon kit but i wanta be able to drive in the rain... so... I've always not like cold airs either because of the placement of the filters on some cars. You have to worry about sucking in water more on Honda's since the filter is pretty much one of the lowest points on the car. But with the Rx8 it is much higher and you have the under tray to protect it too. I have the typhoon and I love the noise, but I might switch to a new intake as soon as I get my new exhaust. Here is a video of inside a car on Nurburgring with the Typhoon installed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQ6RyQ-2FAI Race Roots 10-06-2008, 09:08 AM AEM would probably be better it has some med and top end power.... more balance, Typhoon has more Topend power at 7k AAChaoshand 01-17-2009, 04:29 PM "OH COME ON!" LOL that was hillarious dude... ShellDude 01-17-2009, 04:35 PM pfft... stick with the stock intake... you can do a lot of other things for your car with the money you'd drop on one. If water were injested it might actually clean things up a bit... granted, it's going to have to get past your maf sensor and a couple other key components, but once in and past the manifold it'll do a nice job of removing carbon build-up. AAChaoshand 01-17-2009, 04:50 PM I don't know why some people bash the intake honestly I like it. The stock intake was nice but I wanted a little more sound than a rubberband and this was definitely the answer. If your looking for power than don't waste your time with this intake but other than that its great and fairly easy to install since the instructions are dumbass proof. 04RX8man 01-17-2009, 05:50 PM Just decide whether u want a huge amount of power or if u want it for sound...I've heard of intakes on 8's making less HP than stock AAChaoshand 01-17-2009, 06:36 PM im guessing people didn't install them right or didn't put the hose clamps on right to seal the hoses from that statement. greg985 01-17-2009, 07:04 PM im guessing people didn't install them right or didn't put the hose clamps on right to seal the hoses from that statement. I am guessing Mazda knew what they were doing when they designed the intake laulongfei 01-17-2009, 07:12 PM I have the K&N typhoon now and I am quite disappoint, it does give you a nice sound, well its does give you a great power, but only when its cold, since its a open filter and RX8 produce lots of heat. therefor its sucking hot air, makes it slower then stock intake, unless you have a open vented hood that will let the heat out or a custom box that will cover the intake then the problem will be solve. P.S. if anyone can make a custom cover for KN that will be great, because i know it suck more air then any other one. also its easy to clean and maintain for a cheap price. unlike greddy/hks intake. AAChaoshand 01-17-2009, 07:21 PM temperature ranges on the filter side are still drastically lower than on the opposite side of the heat shield so it is still going it's job. I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for? HP? I bought it for sound and at 180 dollars from a buddy of mine brand new it was a great opportunity. If I wanted HP I would go get a Turbo or better yet a supercharger. laulongfei 01-17-2009, 07:32 PM Well, I am just stating the pros and cons for the KN intake and the problem to fix the con of the intake., and intern of hp and tq, of course sp or tb will be the bang of money. I got mine for 225 brand new, so its not like too much money for me and i am temperately using it until i have the money to turbocharge my car. which it will be soon. but just so you know the greddy turbo intake that comes with it cost a lot to replace unlike the kn you can just recharge. unless i am wrong about the greddy intake. AAChaoshand 01-17-2009, 10:20 PM you should supercharge for more low end Fortunate Few 01-17-2009, 11:21 PM ive searched and was wondering if the REVi intake and the Mushimoto CF intake also only make 5 hp. So a K&N drop in is it worth 5 also? drop in gives you 1 hp. we dynoed it lol. the typhoon isnt worth 320. id pay 200 tops. EDITED *** im not hating on it, i had it before i got my AEM. at first i liked the noise but it got really annoying while cruising on the freeway. so i got rid of it. i love my AEM. |
