View Full Version : San Diego - Palomar Mountain Run

It's time for a mountain run!

Date: 10/18/2008

Time: Meet by 3PM, head out by 3:15

Place: 1138 West Valley Parkway, Escondido, CA

The drive will start in the Circuit City parking lot (same place the SD crew met for the Sevenstock caravan), head up the 15, east out the 76, and then up through the awesome twisties on S Grade Rd. We'll head back down the other side of the mountain, past Lake Henshaw and wind up in Poway for an early after-drive dinner for those interested.

The drive will be very spirited, but safe. Please come to have a good time but leave your speed demon egos at home. The drive is open to all cars as long as the drivers are cool and don't do something stupid to get the rest of us in trouble.

If you plan to attend, please add your name to the list below. We will wait a few extra minutes for confirmed drivers in the event you're running late, but we will not wait for you if your name isn't on the list!

Sun's gonna go down around 6:15. I imagine we can do all that in 3 hours, but I'm just saying...

I don't think it's a good idea to post both your route and departure time.

Good point. I did take it into consideration. The last time I ran this drive it took just over 2 hours and that included putting on a spare an limping home due to a fist-sized rock that, I swear, jumped out of nowhere and attached my right-rear wheel :p: I figured by the time it started getting low light we'd be eating dinner in Poway.

I don't think it's a good idea to post both your route and departure time.
I'm not that paranoid... :)

Depending on how many attend, there could be the "cat herding" syndrome. Regardless, I'm game. I can just drive nine tenths at dusk.

I might join. I have not done anything with you folks previously but I've met some great people through my other car's group.

I don't see any pics attached to the related threads below. Can anyone direct me to pics of previous runs?

Thanks

You do enough of these events, you will be. Be especially careful on Palomar, but you know that already.

(http://flickr.com/photos/blo/sets/72157608166347055/) Sorry for the poor framing and quality -- I had to crop most of them down to a quarter the size as well as crop out my hood(!), and straighten them all out as well -- but I set it up last minute. I'll do bettah next time, I promise!

Here are the forums (http://www.sdsolo.com/forum/index.php) I lurk at for autocross here in San Diego. This is where I get notification of event flyers being posted, and if you follow the links that Derrick gave, you can get to the schedule of events (http://www.sdr-scca.com/solo2/schedule/). I used to check that page every day to get on the Practice Day lists as they can fill up pretty quickly.

Thanks for posting that info, Derrick.

Yeah, next time I think I'll print up a map for everybody just in case some rogue RX-8 jacks our caravan again.

Derek and Burt, keep me updated on when you plan on Auto-crossing. I'm definitely in for the next practice day/track day.

I sent a check in for the 11/8/08 practice at California Speedway. When I hear that I've gotten on the list for sure, I'll let you all know.

Seeing as how there's more interest, I'm gonna see about arranging childcare so I can race the 11/2/08 Championship event on Sunday. I'll post about that as well.

Bear in mind, any of you can race. These Championship events often have "X-Runs" which means you run in the X Class which has no restrictions. $30 for 3 runs, then potential fun runs after the event for a couple bucks a shot. It's all "good times"!

I think so, but I'm not certain. I'm pretty sure that fun runs are available only if you've participated that day.

RotorMotor
10-23-2008, 11:13 PM
Guys, are there practice runs after the championships on 11/2 or do you have to be a qualified driver or something? Do you have to sign up early?

BAM0027
10-24-2008, 12:08 AM
If there's time after a championship event, they have "fun runs". Those are timed, but aren't recorded. With the short days of sunlight, they may not have much time, though. Also, if things go slowly over the regular day's event, they may not have enough time at all.

I'm pretty sure that fun runs are available only if you've participated that day.

hey guys for everybody thats interested in coming down to the stadium on sunday. im prolly gonna be down there at like 9ish(registration is 7:30 till 12:30 for those that wanna get signed up early. First car starts at 9). i heard it might rain but im gonna hope for the best. You dont need to be part of the scca before you go down there. You can buy a day pass for $15 and sign up later. you get a little coupon code so you dont have to pay another 15 when you buy the membership. Anyway hope to see some of you down there
