View Full Version : Painting wheels Gold..opinions plz!!!!
alexanderiv99 09-13-2008, 06:11 PM ok so tomorrow im painting my stock 18's Gold. I have the metallic blue lugnuts from discount auto that i plan on spraying with some clear jus to give me some play bc you have to be very easy with them or they will scratch..i own a winning blue rx...i need some opinions on this setup..im gonna try to take a pic of the paint.
nvrfalter 09-13-2008, 06:18 PM gold stocks? probably fail but good luck. post pics when youre done. aftermarket gold looks great with WB. i would just save up and do that

khronus79 09-13-2008, 07:15 PM Just paint them, it's only paint, if you don't like it paint it a different color. I'm seriously thinking about powdercoating mine
StuttgartRX8 09-14-2008, 02:17 AM I love that gold i painted 3 cars in that color before
Blazed 09-14-2008, 03:10 AM Sorry, but not a fan of gold rims. You should keep them stock.
nuke0907 09-14-2008, 07:43 AM i don't think gold would look very good on WB. maybe a darker silver color like gunmetal. aftermarket gold wheels would look a lot better.
alexanderiv99 09-14-2008, 07:58 AM well i appreciate all of your responses guys....im headed out to paint em here shortly. ill post pictures shortly after ...so check back later today for the results...if worst comes to worst ill jus pick up a dark silver paint and redo em...i hope not though..90 bux out the window..sheesh...im jus tryin to be different but i want it to still look tasteful..nothing too extravagant...so we will see.....thanx guys :PEACE:
alexanderiv99 09-14-2008, 02:55 PM COMPLETION!!!

cjkim 09-14-2008, 03:07 PM its okay, but needs a drop BADLY
paint looks really good though
36TH CHAMBER 09-14-2008, 03:18 PM Paint looks good because it's fresh. I hope there were proper preparations to ensure that the paint stays that way..
As for the color, I was thinking more of a gold color when you said gold. This looks like a metallic burnt sienna.. Maybe your camera isn't capturing the brightness of the color?
To me, this is gold:

YaXMaNGTO 09-14-2008, 03:45 PM Not bad... I'm glad to see the paint has a hue of bronze in it... sort of STi rally car colors.
Proxi 09-14-2008, 04:08 PM Put in some new springs or coilovers to lower your 8 and it'll look more killer.
Good job on the paint.
nuke0907 09-14-2008, 04:08 PM not really a fan of the color but at least lower it.

The color code and name states that this is a gold so i said gold but i see what your saying..and this was done by a pro..we scuffed it clean it blah blah...yes it was done right and the reason it looks good is bc it was sprayed professinally and theres a couple coats of clear :smoker:
NgoRX8 09-14-2008, 05:36 PM hmm, not bad. having a pro do it is the way to go. you should slam your car and then i think it'd be alright.
AJ's Shinka 09-14-2008, 05:48 PM Not bad at all. Too much for me, but it came out nice. Congrats.
alexanderiv99 09-14-2008, 07:50 PM THANX I APPRECIATE THE REPSONSES...I FIGURE AFTER ALL THIS TURNED OUT MUCH WORTH IT...$100 FOR PAINT COMPAIRED TO $1000+ FOR RIMS...SO ITS GOOD FOR ME NOW...AND I JUST GOT THE CAR LESS THAN A MONTH AGO..SO LOWERING SPRINGS SHOULD COME SOON AND EXHAUST IS ON THE WAY AS I TYPE
sumdeus 09-14-2008, 08:59 PM I like it! But I agree about springs and shocks dropping your car.

Thats the color I wanted but this is what I ended up with. I sand blasted them first the rattle canned them it works for me I guess.
pdxhak 09-14-2008, 10:40 PM Should have painted the center cap separately. Also the wheel weights are going to leave a mark the next time you get the wheels balanced.
05rex8 09-14-2008, 10:46 PM looks good....however you should've taped off the valve stems, that just looks tacky
Didnt come out too bad!
Definately agree with the lowering, once you do it will be nice.
DOMINION 09-15-2008, 12:01 AM Too orange. Needs more bling. Not bad just keep up on them rock chips :)

yea i thought about that but like the rest of the back of the wheel it will eventually turn black im guessing...and i thought about taping the valve stems but they were already painted silver so i scuffed them up and sprayed em...im gettin different caps so that didnt bother me much ...but yea i get what your sayin..i was thinkin the same thing while doin them
alexanderiv99 09-15-2008, 06:48 AM Too orange. Needs more bling. Not bad just keep up on them rock chips :)
yea i dunno why but on the pictures it comes out lookin a lil orange...doesnt look like that really...im guessing the camera doesnt pic up the metallic and that probably helps with the gold bling effect...man these pics dont quite do justice because i love the metallic in the paint..it almost looks busy like i dunno its moving?
36TH CHAMBER 09-15-2008, 01:43 PM Haha your paint job made your wheels spinners.
TopGear8 09-15-2008, 01:58 PM Usually i'm not a fan of painted stock wheels..But they look alright on yours.
alexanderiv99 09-15-2008, 08:04 PM Haha your paint job made your wheels spinners.
no way...its the real deal..luceal.....they are spreewells...

must be a very coarse metallic in the paint
Fortunate Few 09-15-2008, 11:56 PM it looks ok. it would be better on black.
alexanderiv99 09-16-2008, 06:41 AM [/B]it looks ok. it would be better on black.
alot of colors look better on black...black is such a base standard color that goes with the whole spectrum...almost the same is true white....but i wanted to be unique..i could of easily threw a gun metal or hyperblack or something that follows the power curve that tried and true always comes out good....but ive done that before on other cars...im still lookin forward to a set of aftermarket this color in the future
