I personally feel that the front number plate has to be put somewhere else. Not right in front taking up almost 85% of the god damn "mouth"! Anbody knows if its legal to just do up a smaller plate and stick it just below the Front Mazda Logo?

This was what I did on my car Miata.

I couldn't pass the VICOM test, but manage to drive it around without any problem.

Neon,
could you post a pix after you have done? I probably wanna do it as well, but will be great to see how it look. I think 2f2f got his mazda logo removed. So are you gonna do the same?

How do these go through carparks that identify the number plates, such as Tangs? Any problems?

Hi Neon.

It IS legal. Under the Road Traffic Act, legal plates have to be of a certain size (i.e. the character) & colour.

Interestingly, the characters on the plate can be either 3-d or flat; same goes for the plate itself.

But check for how reflective the plate turns out - that's the only REAL problem u could get into.

I'll retrieve the exact provision if u like.

Me kept a copy for four-point harness in me previous ride. Be ready to produce in event that TP stop u.

BTW M-Ster, I'm surprised u couldn't clear the VICOM. When was your test?

Hi Rabbit, thanks for the info! Never knew the pasted on plates are legal.

For black cars, the plate will probably blend into the car colour. That will look cool, I think.

At risk of being a nag; watch the size of the characters & level of reflectiveness.

By way of general estimation, u should be able to squeeze the characters under the mazda logo as Neon wants to do.

Red (car) & black (plate) is quite striking!

On the other hand, u could paint ur RX black!

Well another issue that cross my mind is whether LTA or TP will object to paste-on-plate is the fact that these plates maybe not be at the same angle as plates mounted in the normal manner as plate will not be perpendicular to the road n thus be able to evade the red-light-cameras or speed cameras. Would anyone like to add their views b4 all owners rush out to get plates which would not be approved. Tks!

Mr Rabbit

With respect, not quite an issue since both cameras mentioned flash the rear of the car - not the front.

Mr Rabbit

Me assume that nobody is gonna paste 'plates' on the rear. But even if u do, same thing applies.

The kiasu (love that word!) thing to do would be to write LTA & ask.

That was sometime middle of last year.

dru8999 nail half the reason, normally a stick on plate will not be on the right angle. The other reason would be, stick-ons are normally non-reflective material, I think the either the numbers or the base plate has to be of a reflective finish. Thus - reflextive YELLOW/WHITE base with non-reflex NUMBERS or reflextive WHITE NUMBERS on NON-REFLEX BLACK NUMBERS

can't you have it black base with white text?

do you need to remove the whole front bumper to get the plate off?

concur with Fab8 about the picture quality:)

cheers

Mster - U do not need to remove the bumper. Just simple 3 nuts (phillips) for mine. Base plate differs from PIs i guess.

Mine has two infront and 1 behind the mesh but easily reachable by hand via the openings just below.

Hi Neon,

Sorry, only ready yr message. FYI, I've hesitated to remove the logo bcos U need twice the paint work to cover smoothly. If u putty the holes....they will sink after awhile...then U need to putty again. & of course U need to spray the entire piece to aovid any fading shades..

Now, still quite happ with my GDB GT wing with front lips & back lower bumber spray painted.

cheers

Hi again. Why would it definitely fail VICOM? And FYI white background for the front is legal. Rear has to be black or yellow.

Neon

Cuz its non-reflective and i believe LTA hates stickers :D

From my personal exp, yes sticker fails Viacom though you might not fail the whole inspection. My inspector was nice enough to just tell me remember to bring my front plate next time (realy forgotten abt it) and bolt it on before the inspection.

Hope this helps.

Agree. My EG9 had the same problem. However, my inspector told me go change and then come back. So what i did was drove out park at the side and screw on my original standard plates. Smoked a couple n drove back in.....PASS :D

Hope this helps too..... =_=)V
