Front Plate has to go!!!!

I personally feel that the front number plate has to be put somewhere else. Not right in front taking up almost 85% of the god damn "mouth"! Anbody knows if its legal to just do up a smaller plate and stick it just below the Front Mazda Logo?

Neon 11-29-2003 01:17 AM

Try to imagine wad im toking about on top.....removing the r magic plate totally. putting a smaller one just below the logo..

Any one of u know the regulations e.g dimensions, reflectivity etc etc.....

Too lazy to go search....

One of our forum members has done this - Spyder766

Check out his car here

Neon 11-29-2003 05:01 AM

Ok thanks a lot...

And spyder if u ever get to read this thread......Ur plate legal?

Or just biting the bullet for 3 years b4 inspection?

M-ster 11-29-2003 07:49 AM

This was what I did on my car Miata.

I couldn't pass the VICOM test, but manage to drive it around without any problem.

Neon 11-30-2003 03:46 AM

OK thanks. Ye, i just did the same to mine. Sticker thingy....Hopefully no eyesore to TP.

Fingers crossed!

M-ster 11-30-2003 04:42 AM

Neon,
could you post a pix after you have done? I probably wanna do it as well, but will be great to see how it look. I think 2f2f got his mazda logo removed. So are you gonna do the same?

Fab 8 11-30-2003 04:55 AM

How do these go through carparks that identify the number plates, such as Tangs? Any problems?

dru8999 11-30-2003 05:17 AM

Hi Fab8, were u at Raffles City Shopping Ctr tis morning at abt 10:30am? Thought i saw ur car. HEHE.

Fab 8 11-30-2003 06:21 AM

Yup, that was me :)

Neon 11-30-2003 07:44 AM

i wil be doing it tomorrow. once done, will post a pic.

2F2F, how much u paid to patch them up and repaint? i'm thinking of doing that, the logos too fugly.....

Mr Rabbit 11-30-2003 08:15 PM

Hi Neon.

It IS legal. Under the Road Traffic Act, legal plates have to be of a certain size (i.e. the character) & colour.

Interestingly, the characters on the plate can be either 3-d or flat; same goes for the plate itself.

But check for how reflective the plate turns out - that's the only REAL problem u could get into.

I'll retrieve the exact provision if u like.

Me kept a copy for four-point harness in me previous ride. Be ready to produce in event that TP stop u.

Mr Rabbit 11-30-2003 08:17 PM

BTW M-Ster, I'm surprised u couldn't clear the VICOM. When was your test?

Fab 8 11-30-2003 08:24 PM

Hi Rabbit, thanks for the info! Never knew the pasted on plates are legal.

For black cars, the plate will probably blend into the car colour. That will look cool, I think.

Mr Rabbit 11-30-2003 08:33 PM

At risk of being a nag; watch the size of the characters & level of reflectiveness.

By way of general estimation, u should be able to squeeze the characters under the mazda logo as Neon wants to do.

Mr Rabbit 11-30-2003 08:44 PM

Red (car) & black (plate) is quite striking!

On the other hand, u could paint ur RX black!

dru8999 11-30-2003 08:44 PM

Well another issue that cross my mind is whether LTA or TP will object to paste-on-plate is the fact that these plates maybe not be at the same angle as plates mounted in the normal manner as plate will not be perpendicular to the road n thus be able to evade the red-light-cameras or speed cameras. Would anyone like to add their views b4 all owners rush out to get plates which would not be approved. Tks!

Mr Rabbit 11-30-2003 08:47 PM

With respect, not quite an issue since both cameras mentioned flash the rear of the car - not the front.

Mr Rabbit 11-30-2003 08:50 PM

Me assume that nobody is gonna paste 'plates' on the rear. But even if u do, same thing applies.

The kiasu (love that word!) thing to do would be to write LTA & ask.

That was sometime middle of last year.

dru8999 nail half the reason, normally a stick on plate will not be on the right angle. The other reason would be, stick-ons are normally non-reflective material, I think the either the numbers or the base plate has to be of a reflective finish. Thus - reflextive YELLOW/WHITE base with non-reflex NUMBERS or reflextive WHITE NUMBERS on NON-REFLEX BLACK NUMBERS

Neon 12-01-2003 04:44 AM

Ok just did mine. Note it definitely fails VICOM. Moreover mine is white backgrd--->worse (on Black 8)

Apologies for the pix, taken with V200. :D

Neon 12-01-2003 04:45 AM

Oh b d way, its a sticky type (So called German sticker or wudever...) Easy to peel out too when 3 years up and no eye sore to TPs....

Fab 8 12-01-2003 07:46 AM

Can take a better photo to appreciate the effect? Many thanks!

M-ster 12-01-2003 08:28 AM

can't you have it black base with white text?

do you need to remove the whole front bumper to get the plate off?

concur with Fab8 about the picture quality:)

cheers

Neon 12-01-2003 09:16 AM

Ok wil get a better pix once taken wif digicamera.

Of coz can have the standard black n white lettering. Personal preference i guess....
