Any Indiana residents, I'm just south of Fort Wayne.

I hate this state almost with an utter passion, but I live here none-the-less. I'm in West Lafayette 3/4 of the year the rest of the time I'm down here in Indy.

Ah a fellow Purdue Student. I graduated last May. There is nothing wrong with Indiana. I would rather live here than Cali or something like that. Oh well, do you have a deposit down on an 8 somewhere Strider?

Strider
01-05-2003, 08:22 PM
Deposit... no. I still kinda have to start saving my pennies so I can get one right after I graduate.
There is nothing wrong with Indiana. I would rather live here than Cali or something like that.
I just don't have a liking for the weather here or maybe the complete lack of predictability and the coldness.

So what did you graduate with?

fritts
01-05-2003, 09:33 PM
I graduated in MET. Working at International Trucks in Fort Wayne right now, while living with the rents which will afford me the 8. I'm getting married this summer but that's all cool cause my gal wants to drive off in the 8 after the ceremony. Which looks possible as I have 2 spot at the Mazda in Fort Wayne and I'm getting married July 5.

Gotta love a hopeful June delivery

Congrats on the soon to be marraige (kinda soon anyway  )
What color are you going for with the 8?

fritts
01-11-2003, 10:38 PM
havent' decided yet on color black or blue. I will be at the detroit show sunday so we'll see what she looks like then.

If you ever run into an amanda or tyson fritts down at school, give them some crap, as I'm the oldest and being at work doesn't lend me the time to pick on them like a big bro should.

DijabutiA, believe me... if I were getting an 8 I'd be driving around campus all day with it. But instead... no... someday... yes :D .

So what are you studying here?

Fritts, what color did you end up getting?

DijabutiA
07-12-2003, 12:25 AM
im going for MSE, material science engineering

one of the guys i was talkin to however saw an STI on campus though... do they even have rx8's in indiana yet?

Strider
07-12-2003, 08:05 AM
I've seen a few STIs on Campus as well as an NSX and an Evo within the summer. As for having any 8s in Indiana... not that I know of, but I'm currently not in the market for one. Fritts may have a better answer for that one.

I'm a Hoosier! Live in Avon, its just west of Indy. I'm a BSME from PU, went to IUPUI. Graduated in '94.

I stopped in to talk to my dealer in Speedway on 7-14-03. He had just found out hours ago that they lost the Mazda line (they also sell Subaru & VW).

Get this - THEY DON'T KNOW WHERE MY 8 WILL BE DELIVERED!!!

He's guessing it'll go to Hubler Mazda in Greenwood, or possibly (but unlikely, as the new building isn't complete) the new Hubler Mazda in Plainfield. Which, by the way, will be a MazdaSpeed dealer. The only other local MazdaSpeed dealer is in Evansville, I guess. He says that the car has my name on it, so not to worry. Also, the price we agreed on (MSRP) could be null & void at this point. He's going to talk to the Mazda Rep and try to find out where my 8 is going.

Strider
07-15-2003, 06:00 PM
Wankel, why don't you have fubar or one of the other peeps on the forum try to find your car for you. That way it would take a little bit of pressure off your mind.

Ok, so I'm trying to get this... why is your negotiated price void if you made the deal through this dealer...? I can understand because it is going (getting received) at another dealer... but if they go marking up your car on you then I'd have a problem with that.

That's interesting that the plainfield dealer will be a mazdaspeed dealer. Doesn't necessarily (sp?) suprise me though I've heard that they are the largest in central IN. For those of you over in Ft. Wayne is there a Mazdaspeed dealer around you? I know that in Lafayette the closest dealer is in Indy (but now apparently in Plainfeild).

07-15-2003, 07:18 PM
Hey Strider, ya I already posted a thread in general discussion to fubar and budaman.

I don't think my price is void, just preparing for their agrument. IMO, my price is bound by a signed contract (purchase order) with Mazda via a Mazda dealer. They better not jack up my price, I wont put up with that sh*t......

According to the Mazda web site, the nearest MazdaSpeed dealer is 100 miles away in Urbana, IL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The MazdaSpeed dealer (Hubler Mazda) in Plainfield is brand new and will open Aug 1st. Hubler currently has Dodge, Nissan, Acura, and one other line.

DijabutiA
07-16-2003, 08:26 PM
your damn right that price better be voided; that is total bs... they better give you some price off for playing this game on you
did anyone even contact you? im guessing no, but you found out because your buggin the dealer to find out when you get your car

youve seen an NSX on campus? damn.... ive seen one at home, an older one driven by some rich boy who tries to act like its his... when his daddy handed it down to him

too bad that car isnt that fast

Strider
07-17-2003, 03:11 PM
Dij, personally I'd think that the car would be plenty fast for me... but you can bet that I'd still work on making it faster ;).

Wankel, keep us up to date on how that's going. Have you received the email from Mazda yet to let you know that your car is in/ is your car coming on another boat still?

Budaman ran my VIN a couple of days ago, its on the way to the dealer! My old dealer called yesterday and said that its scheduled to arrive today!!!! I'll believe it when it happens. I'd love to get it before the weekend.

Trying to finalize my loan stuff right now, my bank needs a copy of the purchase order from the NEW dealer (Hubler). Hubler doesn't have any info on the car yet, so they say they cant do it yet. I faxed them my purchase order from the old dealer and a copy of the window sticker from the internet. Hopefully that'll help move things along. These last two days have seemed like an eternity!

Yet another Indiana resident, recent graduate of Rose Hulman. If you see a Titanium Grey RX-8 driving around the Logansport/Winamac area, that's me. Though I might end up either in Indy or Lafayette here in another 2400 mile to enjoy a free oil change thanks to mazda's HP screwup :)

IN resident here, Indianapolis actually. Got my car on 8/11 in Cincinnati, though... they gave me what I wanted for my trade and great financing. The guys I was working with here were trying to screw me over on the trade... like about $1100 less than I got in Cinci. Walked in 30-40 mins before closing, bought the car off the showroom floor. Sweet.

If any of you guys in the Indianapolis area get or got your RX-8, pipe up, cuz I still haven't seen another one on the road yet.

Also, I'm gettin my windows tinted on 9/5 from a guy who's shop is a little north of Indy, Frankfort area. I'll let ya know the results.

Post of up some pictures of the results of the tinting if you don't mind... I can host a pic or two if you don't have any space out there. I might look into getting that done in indyland, but I want to see how it looks first. So you can be my guinea pig :)

jdaled ,

Hey, Indy resident here! (Actually Avon) I have a Sunlight Silver GT, blk/red inter., picked it up at Hubler Nissan 8/8. I saw my first "other" RX-8 at 96th & I-69 around 8/26 at about noon. It was Tit Grey with a wing. Was that you? (oops, I see you have a black one)

I'm anxious to learn of your experience with the tint job. Does he use a laser cutter?

Love my RX-8, have about 1500mi and runs sweet!

Will do. The guy I'm having do the work was recommended to me by Indy Import Perfomance. I'll maybe even see if he'll let me take pics of the whole process.

IN here as well. Evansville (hell) area.

Just purchased Red 8 in Owensboro, KY. $100 off MSRP....not to bad...could have been worse from what Ive seen others.

There is not another 8 to be found in the area. Just got back from lunch and I have people following me to the house. Makes the wife nervous.

But, you have to admit it.....everytime you stop at the gas station, grocery store, etc....everybody says "what is that?"...pretty sweet.

(this thread has been quiet for a few months)

I'm in West Lafayette, Purdue affiliiated. Ordered my 8 in mid August, hoping for it in mid Sept. Winning blue, GT, Appearance, 6MT. I haven't seen any 8's in town (of course, I have only been in IN 3 weeks or so). I 've seen 1-2 G35c's on campus (silver or platinum) and one 350Z convertible (red).

Looking forward to my 8 -- hope it comes flawless!

Any of you know of 8's around Purdue area? I know the local Mazda dealer sold a red one (I test drove in it, but didn't get it).

Not I, well, actually I DID breeze through the area on I65 headed to Michigan (Union Pier) for Labor Day weekend, and then back to Indy on Monday. There was apparently a big Harley Davidson event up there as well, and I kept passing packs of bikers the whole way back. Seemed kinda crazy since it was raining the whole way.

BTW, the car handled beautifully in the rain as well, except that there was a tendency for the water to stream along the drivers window. :(

Hiya guys,

I saw a black 8 in Avon today. Im waiting for the second go around before I get mine...maybe late next year. I have a couple of 7's now.

I met Ikuo Maeda, chief designer for the 8 at sevenstock last weekend..really interesting guy. He signed a few 8's at the show and a lot of posters.

Please come to the Rotary Revolution.

http://www.revolutionmktg.net/

We rent IRP for a full day of drag, autocross, tech seminars, tuning, and then a second day of driving schools and road racing. If you'd really like to stretch the suspension on your 8, here will be a good place. Largest rotary race related event in the US.

Please email me if you would like to be in the Indy rx7 club mailings. We are planning a trip to park county/covered bridge festival in a couple of weeks. I'd love to change the club name to

"Indy rotary motor club"

They have 5 Rx-8s out at Mazda in Evansville. I just went and drove one today. Pretty nice, but I still miss my RX-7.

RXevolve...

I didnt get past the sales manager at Evansville Mazda. Wouldnt deal at all.

I ended up at Champion Mazda in Owensboro KY. They came off MSRP on a low mile demo and I got in under the 8/26 deadline to qualify for the deals.

I've only see one other 8 in the Evansville area. A blue one with spoiler. Looked like a female driver.

I wasnt very impressed with Evansvilles Mazda parts/service either. I called to get price for Oil filter and the guy asked for what car - RX8 - he then asked "Is that a 4 or 6 cylinder?". - OUCH

rxevolve10
10-14-2003, 07:50 PM
yeah I drove a couple of times at Evansville and they are plain stupid. They had a red on in their service department, and the guy told me it would not start. I hope that wasn't yours.

I may go out to owensboro to see what they have to offer.

wleonard
10-15-2003, 03:11 PM
No, wasnt mine. They did have a used one there (900 miles) ...the old tail of "man had bad back so he returned it" story. Between that and the old lady back and forth to church..man these salesman need to get new and better BS.

I found Champion Mazda in Owensboro pretty easy to deal with. They have a much bigger lot /selection. I also called around to Paduca KY, and Nashville and got same deals with nice sales people.

Basically every where I called I got a good deal with decent sales staff, except Evansville Mazda.

I also priced some Miata Shinzens with them and they were $3k over ANY other dealer. I really dont know how EVV mazda sells a damn thing. Maybe the local farm idiots dont know better.

wleonard
10-15-2003, 03:16 PM
Dont laugh but have you driven a new Miata. Just take one for a test drive.

They are fun as shit, with lots of aftermarket upgrades out there. If I didn't have a two year old son (car seat) I probably would have gotten a Shinzen model.

The Miata's are like freaking go-carts. Add some mods and it would be flat out fun.

Im happy with my 8 though. Although the gas milage is only 6mpg more than the Ford Excursion (Triton V10) I traded. SAD!

So, Im still in negotiations to sell this 8 back to them...just waiting on the numbers.

You in the market for a used 8 with 3500 miles? Well cared for with 6 loving coats of Zaino!

rxevolve10
10-15-2003, 08:13 PM
I also have the need for a car seat (3 yr old) I think I am going to wait until my camry is about dead before I buy. Thank you for the offer though. I think I will go test a miata, I have never driven one.

Hey guys! Any Indy RX8 owners out there? Just bought mine from Hubler Mazda in Greenwood.... Pretty good experience! Marcus the sales manager even threw in some nice accessories to sweeten the deal!

jdaled
10-20-2003, 10:05 AM
Awesome! I was looking at Hubler before they had their building open... I'm assuming it's open now (?) It was supposed to be done in July, and when I was there in August there still wasn't a building at all... just a gravel lot. The were still working through their Acura dealership, which I think is why they were trying to screw me out of a fair deal on my trade. So, I went to Cincinnati. I do expect that I'll check out Hubler for my service though... once they're no longer dealing through Acura, I expect I'll get good treatment.

Oh, and I remember talking to Marcus when he was at Tom Wood, which he left to open the Hubler lot. He seems like a good guy, especially for a car dealership sales manager.

Anyways, I'm here in Indy (downtown area). Say, when you say "just bought" do you mean, like this past weekend... or maybe at least a couple weeks ago? I saw a guy in a red 8 at the SuperTarget on Southport Rd. a couple weekends ago... passed each other right in front of the entrance, hehe. Just wondering if that was you.

D.

I was down in Purdue early last month, hung out with some of the Lambda bros. indiana isn't that bad, im originally from michigan myself. I'm getting married in two weeks, my fiance is from the Indy area. Fishers here as well...Im game--provided you dont mind hanging with a seven owner. The seven guys usually get together for lunch at champs in Keystone. We'd love to hook up with the 8 owners....we have a road racing club that goes to putnam road course about everyother week as well....lemmie know if you'd like to go to drive or watch.

I'll be getting an 8 after my rotary car show in april. I want to test one on a track before I buy it...and Im hoping for a killer deal once a dealership signs on as a sponsor. :)

Anyway, send me an email or post a date and we'll go from there. BTW the seven club is planning a trip to turkey run/ covered bridge land soon if you'd like to go.

We have been working with dealerships to bring 8's to the road course and let people have test drives.

Drag racing, autocross, food, seminars, and tech sessions are included with the registration. The drivers school has its own registration. Attendees to the event have ample opportunity to get many rides...and let me tell ya the world is much different at 120mph in a race prepped 7....better than any coaster anywhere :)

We have been speaking to acosta about bringing their 20b 500 hp rx8 to the show. I got to see it at SevenStock...Im hoping to see what it can do at the Rotary Revolution.

Visit the web site in my sig and register for up to date info on the show. Drivers school registration will be opening soon and space for the school is limited.

I'm from the Greenwood area. I recently found out my employer is a "Ford Partner", and am eligible for S-plan purchase of a Mazda Rx8. The price ends up being $74 UNDER invoice for a base 6-speed. Got a PIN number in hand, ready for a Sunlight Silver 6-speed no options. Car has to be ordered, since there are NO base 6-speed 8s anywhere (apparently). I've been working with Steve Younce from Tom Wood Mazda, Indy's east side. I have a good relationship with them. I put on an Rx7 show there in 1999 to commemorate the release of the 10th anniversary Miata. Ironically I had more Rx7 owners present there than the Indy Miata club had Miata owners present :) I know you're wondering "why just a base 6-speed?" IMO the Sport Package--is a rip-off--$1200 for lights and driver aids? I don't need no stinking driver aids LOL :)

I plan to autocross in Walesboro next Sunday Nov 9 (CSCC Fun Event) in my FD Rx7. Perhaps we can get a meeting of 8s down there?

I also plan to do one of my famous (or infamous) southern Indiana road tours, to cap off the driving season before it gets too cold. The new 8 owners are invited, of course :)

BTW, keynote22 is putting on an outstanding rotary event in April 2004 (his second, as this year's was the inaugural event). I encourage the new 8 owners to check out the Rotary Revolution 2004. It will be a "HOOT"!

The Revolution has had many hits and some registrations from this site. The 8 owners are gonna love the road course!

We are trying so hard to get the RX8 designer from japan to come to the show. He signed my copy of the rx8 book and my copy of the rx8 dealership poster. Actually, the president of Mazda japan, the president of Mazda Amercia, the rx8 designer, the rx8 roll out manager, the rx8 motorsports vice pres, and the last remaining memeber of the rotary motor design team all signed my rx8 book :)

We shall see.... we spoke to mazda last week about him. If he can come to Seven Stock he can come to the Revo :) I bet a few 8 owners would like to have their vin plate signed by the cars designer...now that is cool.

Next gathering will be @ Fast Times Go-Karting Center. It's located in Indy's north side. More details to follow. We'll shoot for a time in mid-December during the holidays. Great meeting Red_Rx8 @ Champp's lunch yesterday. Hope to meet more Rx8 owners.

I have yet to make it to a fast times event :( ...the more I think about it, the more i think learning to pick a line there in a cart is easier than picking a line at putnam in the 7 lol

So I have to make it to the next one.

Hopefully Red_RX8 now has rotary racing fever :D

As of today, the only slots available this weekend, for open racing @ Fastimes is Friday, Dec 19--after 9 pm; Saturday, Dec 20--after 8 pm; and Sunday, Dec 21--afer 3 pm.

If we want to reserve these times for Rx7/Rx8 owners, it costs $800 for a maximum of 10 racers to race for 2 hours total, for whichever time/day slot we pick

IMO, it will be:
a) difficult to get 10 people to commit to any of these dates because of the holiday schedules
b) even more difficult to find 10 people willing to pay $80/head to race for two hours.

Because the openings are so unpredictable during December, we'll need to do last-minute planning to see who's in, and what slots are open for the folks who want to race (any group can book an event at any time, and so the slots I listed above may not exist this weekend).

Because we'll be doing last minute planning, I will limit this to the local Rx7/Rx8 owners who can attend at a moment's notice.

When we decide on a date/time, I'll post it on this board, so folks who just want to meet/greet can do so without having to race.

FYI, Fastimes Indoor Karting Center phone number is 317-566-0066. Street address is 3455 Harper Rd, Indianapolis IN

Hello!

Just bought my RX-8 on Saturday. Unfortunately, two hours after I got it home it started snowing! Ordered some Dunlop Winter Sport M3s today. Hopefully they will be in by this weekend. It is painful not being able to drive it.

Keynote22, you mentioned you're in a club that goes to Putnam every other week or so? How do I sign up for that?! I'm also into sportbikes and have taken my Suzuki GSX-R1000 to a few track days at Putnam. I've always wanted to take a car out there. Now I have a car worthy of doing it!

I have a few things going on Saturday, but I can make the Friday night event or the Sunday afternoon event.

Looking forward to meeting all of you!

I've had my black 8 for about 3 weeks now. I got it at Roush. Those sales men and manager didn't know s#!t about this car. They tried to tell me that I didn't need snow tires. We went back and talked to the Mazda service manager and he laughed at them for saying that.

BTW I live in Broad Ripple (north side of Indy). If you see a black 8 with apperance package and spoiler driving around the ripple It is probably me. I haven't seen any black 8s here yet.

For serious questions you'll want to talk to pete deshong at roush. Hes a service tech that used to work on rotary race cars. He's very soft spoken but he knows his stuff about rotary motors. He used to be the only mastertech in the city. And of course there is shane at aim tuning...not sure if he can do warranty work?

I don't get up to Broad Ripple nearly as much as I used to. I tend to spend more time downtown, or toward the South side. If I do get back up that way soon, it'd be kinda cool to come across ya... two black 8s with apperance pkg/spoilers... :D

Now I have a car worthy of doing it! keynote22's probably referring to my club, Motorsports Driving Club, or "MDC" for short. I organized lapping days and evenings @ Putnam Park for 3 years (2000 to 2003). Visit www.motorsportsdrivingclub.com for more info. keynote22 hasn't tracked his FD3S @ Putnam Park yet, but has ridden with one of my participants, radkins.

Here are some links from the MDC message board with pics from 2003 MDC Putnam Park DEs and open track events:

http://board.motorsportsdrivingclub.com/mdcforums/showthread.php?threadid=63

http://board.motorsportsdrivingclub.com/mdcforums/showthread.php?threadid=71

Unfortunately, Putnam Park Corp pulled their evening events for 2004 and beyond, so there are only lapping days and weekend drivers eds sponsored by the larger car clubs/private enterprises.

MDC is a small outfit (just me), and will focus its 2004 activites to acting as a consultant for other clubs/companies who need help with organzational and operational issues inherent in running successful DE events.

I've been open tracking my FD3S Rx7 since 1997. As a DE instructor, I have thousands of miles experience @ Putnam Park, and hundreds of miles experience each @ IRP, Mid Ohio, Road America, Gingerman, Road Atlanta, and Summit Point--so if you need a private DE instructor, or chief instructor to run your event, look no further than your own back yard LOL :)

Tom Roush Mazda? What a joke? I'll never buy my Rx8 from there. Pete's great, but his knowledge is nonexistant with FD3S twin turbo control system diagnosis--no worries with Rx8 owners LOL :)

AIM (Advanced Indy Motorsports) Tuning? If you have a Miata, FC, FB Rx7--YES, especially if you're heavy into Spec Miata racing! Heavily modified FD3S Rx7 needing Haltech or Power FC Tuning--NO, they have no clue how to tune Power FC or Haltech FD3S Rx7s (which is ironic, since "Tuning" is in their business name LOL ).

Heavily modded FD3S Rx7 owners with Power FC or Haltechs need to go to Rx7 Store in Columbus Ohio. www.rx7store.net. They've SAFELY tuned twin turbo FD3S Rx7s to 330 rwhp (1.05 kg/cm^2, 15 psi) boost pressure. As recently as this past weekend the Rx7 Store safely tuned radkins' FD3S Rx7 with newly-broken-in Pineapple 13B REW motor and T04S single turbo to make 432 rwhp with that same boost pressure.

BTW Rx8 Store is the same place www.rx8store.com. Jason and Zavier, Advanced Imports (not to be confused with Advanced Indy Motorsports), Rx7 Store, Rx8 Store owners, have a new Mustang Dyno which they use for Power FC tuning. The dyno is also useful in seeing how much hp your new header-back, straight-through midpipe/exhaust system for your Rx8 has made--which I've read is 21 rwhp (woo hoo 200 rwhp! LOL) :)

Hello, all... I'm a psychiatrist living in South Bend and I just picked up an RX-8 a few weeks ago. Was looking at a 350Z, but I'm glad I sprung for the 8. It's a Silver MT Grand Touring with all the extras( strakes, spoiler, air dam, aero flares, etc.) Unfortunately, the weather is so crappy now that I've pretty much had to leave it sitting in the garage. It will probably help to invest in a new set of rims with some good snow tires before next winter. So right now, I dream of the RX-8 while I drive 30 miles to work in an old 4-wheel drive beater! My wife thinks I'm not too practical, but I'll sacrifice the practicality for some fun. Life is too short......

Of course, make sure you check out the biggest meet coming up in Indianapolis this April, it's just down the road from you and it'll help you really appreciate that car.

Im trying to have another school in september for the folks that didnt brave the rain last weekend...I think sleep has one coming up in June. Thanks for the plug, Aron. I've been organizing MDC track events since October 2000. All my events were at Putnam Park Road Course until this year. Decided to try a new venue that was more convenient for out-of-towners (heading in from the east, like OH). IRP Road Course is located in Clermont, just minutes west of Indy. The course is 2.5 miles, 15 turns. Large enough for 20 cars to never see each other for a few laps LOL. Originally posted by keynote22
