View Full Version : Great RX-8 Review...
Omicron 11-25-2003, 12:48 PM Check it out: http://www.nashwan.org/topgear.wmv
This guy can be HARSH when he doesn't like a car, and he has high standards. He loved it! :D
Rx-Appreci-8 11-25-2003, 02:38 PM Without a doubt, that was the coolest video on the RX-8 I've seen yet. I would have loved to see it before I purchased. I had to search the web to learn more about the Topgear program just to convince myself it wasn't a paid Mazda infomercial.
Great find and a perfect reply to the flamers who only want to compare straight line acceleration. Add some curves and it gets the same time as a 350Z.
Thanks Omicron!
ashutoshsm 11-25-2003, 05:01 PM Damn!
Wow - I want to learn to drive like those guys. And from what he says, the RX-8 is forgiving enough to make it easy.
Dwell on the fact (and gloat about it, folks) that he called it the best car he's driven all year! And they drove the Lotus Elise and that Swedish supercar this year!
Now I'm going to have to trade in my Mazda 6i, which I love so much :) Can you say '8 Envy'?
Smoker 11-25-2003, 05:25 PM What a great review ! All those people who have gotten the car and are bitching about it should watch this review and remind themselves why they got the car in the first place !!! Awesome !
Sharky 11-25-2003, 06:06 PM That was unbelievable! Seriously best vid on the RX-8 I've ever seen. It was informative, it had on-track excitement, and it was all topped off with a healthy dash of British humour. I think I might just have to add TopGear to my frequently viewed list.
zoomzooomp5 11-25-2003, 10:14 PM wow!!! great video. I so happy I brought RX8.
rx-7~rx-8 11-25-2003, 10:21 PM Damn, the rx-8 can handle like whip cream on bagel.
He mentions its the best car, he drove.
the fun factor is all there.
Makes me even more proud to be ann owner, loved it.
RX-GR8 11-25-2003, 11:09 PM good read. thanks for the link.
said7 11-26-2003, 10:13 AM was he being sarcastic when he was talking about all the understeer and oversterr when the prodriver was on the coarse?

No sarcasm, the car was obviously understeering and oversteering often during that video. That's one sign of a balanced handling car - it can be made to do either, as required.

Gordon
syntrix 11-26-2003, 05:51 PM I'm downloading the vid right now, but:
Oversteer AND understeer. I don't believe it.
I think he means traction at the limits can induce some perceived oversteer, as the stock suspension is a bit soft.
I have experienced this at the track (road course) myself, and can see how you can say "over and under" steer, but the car really understeers a bit from the factory up to the limits of the tires.
syntrix 11-26-2003, 05:59 PM It was indeed going in too hot and getting the rear out in a corner when he mentions oversteer!
However!
If they drove it smoother, the track times would decrease, that run they were all over the place, squealing and smoking tires all over the place!!!!
dimmerclan 11-26-2003, 06:15 PM That was one awesome video. And the way he based the 350z relative to our beloved 8 is unforgetable! Ride on to the 9k redline baby!
S3/P3/E2 11-26-2003, 07:36 PM Hell, that video was better than any commercial I've seen yet. Nice to see it tear-assing around the track. It's amazing to see what a little motion video can do for an already attractive car. :)
cebat 11-26-2003, 11:31 PM This video should be a sticky!
IM GOIN FOR A DRIVE!
