View Full Version : RX-8 body kit
mellennium3 01-04-2003, 12:54 AM From what I've been reading lately most of you will hate this. It seems many people want to keep their RX-8 stock. Fine by me, but for those of you who dont, heres an idea. I'm a newbie to photoshop so if u have any hints/tips please tell me. This is an old rx-7 kit.
Hercules 01-04-2003, 01:25 AM Are those machine guns on the front air dams? :D
wakeech 01-04-2003, 06:25 AM hey duuude!! all RIIIIGHT!! :D cool beans on the low, sleek nose... FC-esque
some suggestions:
- add colour, don't be afraid, everything will be fine. :) pick your favourite.
- accent the low nose by enlarging the radiator duct (we'll pretend that intercooler is just the radiator) up to the top of where that small (and ugly) nose inlet is
- get rid of the winglets with the fake brake ducts in front of the front wheels (at the bottom of the air dam)
- :D keep the car looking like an RX-8 by removing the RX-7 clusters from below the normal 8 lamps... not bad, but crowded...
- just try nudging the whole unit up until it doesn't make the car look so tall (ummm, like double the front ground clearance??)
anyhoo, these are simply suggestions... you are the first poster to really come up with something that i like so much!! the low nose is absolutely fantastic!! keep at 'er mellennium.
i wonder... is it alright if i borrow your image and try myself?? i've never used photoshop before, so be kind ;)
wakeech 01-04-2003, 07:14 AM huzzaaaaah!! excelcior!! holy @#(% what a crappy job....
oh well, my first fast photoshop crack at modifying someone else's hard-completed work... i'm finally tired... not as difficult as i thought!! what an incredible program... :)
this is a very plain, unstylized version of what was origionally posted... just to see what it would look like, and if i could do it ;)
certainly, this is in desparate need of some pizaz: this was an excersize in deletion and movin' stuff around, not to append or qualitatively improve the image.... also, i think i went waaaay too NSX for my liking, but this is SORT OF what i had in mind... if only i could put to paper what i see in my mind's eye... :D oh well, whatever.
Toadman 01-04-2003, 10:06 AM Veilside front end with an intercooler? :D
Styjan 01-04-2003, 12:15 PM Looks like the Feed Nose for an FD RX-7

mellennium3 01-04-2003, 02:39 PM I dunno if anyone here will really like this. Most of the posts sound like they dont like any aftermarket products.
Hercules 01-04-2003, 02:59 PM That contrasting black hood looks pretty bad..

:O!! that's amazing!! looking at the shadows cast on the nose, i'd say that's EXACTLY the same picture he used to splice it!!
so, uh, what's everyone think of my PS skillz?? are they MaD or bad??
miata35 01-04-2003, 08:59 PM needs some practice if you ask me. lol im just playin but the bottom of the car shouldnt be so round and maybe a little lower. Clean up the edges a bit too.
tallguylehigh 01-04-2003, 09:23 PM Not a bad job, though I think the car is riding a bit too high, lower it and it will look even better.
Also, although these body kit ideas seem interesting, they do neglect something about the front of the RX-8- the fact that it isnt straight across. The center grill pokes out farther giving it a slight nose, which I like. These body kids look like a straight shot across. Maybe someone could make a body kit taking that into consideration?
miata35 01-05-2003, 11:47 AM heres mine i added color and another car in the backround

I like this one. Especially the front air dam. What I llike most is the breather hole in the top plate. Just looks kewl...image2 (http://www.rx8forum.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=18768)
miata35 01-05-2003, 12:56 PM Bomex kit possibilities- back:
miata35 01-05-2003, 12:57 PM bomex side:
miata35 01-05-2003, 12:58 PM bomex front:
fritts 01-05-2003, 02:36 PM I like the Bomex except for the front has way to many vent holes otherwise I like that kit. It has a bit of a supra look to it at the rear end. Which I think is an improvement to the stock back end.
unemployedpimp 01-05-2003, 02:36 PM oh my god , those kits are awsome ! how do u do them? miata35
wakeech 01-05-2003, 02:49 PM hey, very cool beans on all of those Miata35... kudos and a half. :)
Beemer 01-05-2003, 04:00 PM Those 8's look like they come straight from hell... :D
Aeterna 01-05-2003, 04:14 PM ... I would get white/eggshell like the Nissan Altimas with the satin finish and then just lower the car a little bit (2 inches at most)
then I'm considering having a custom emblem made for mine.
and then...
I'll be able to take over the WORLD, Pinky!
AAAAAAHHAAAHHAAAHAAAAAAA!

P00Man 01-06-2003, 12:42 AM you people are sick, i love it!
Miata35, the one you made with the blue and the cream one in the back is freking beautiful, but i think shave the winglets.

its funny... cause its true.
I like the x-car rear. Thats about the extent of kiting it needs. These are way too much. Unless you are going to do a multicolor paint job and put some stickers on it. Then it would be... too much.
RX-3_13B_Tommo 01-17-2003, 01:33 AM The white one reminds me of a supra, maybe it's just the wing?
Mazda man 01-17-2003, 05:26 PM then I'm considering having a custom emblem made for mine.
Sounds cool! Any ideas on the design you want?
rx7tt95 01-20-2003, 09:55 PM I just hope that the 7 is produced in great enough numbers that aftermarket tuners will produce body kits in high quality urethane or other flexible material and not just in fiberglass...I have a fiberglass nose and skirts on my 7 and they're not fond of stones. Stone chips on a black car are not fun. I can't imagine too many RX8 owners willing to put up with the properties of fiberglass, at least not in the first few years of production.

I actually tought about keeping the RX-8, as we all know it looks great stocked. But after seeing a couple of the pics posted I will definetely do some mods.:)
rx7tt95 01-25-2003, 03:29 PM I read somewhere that Mazda was hoping for about 18,000 in first year sales and almost double that in year two. That will bode well for manufacturers participating in the creation of the aftermarket industry for this car. The only thing that might hamper it is a lack of interest by the owners. The aftermarket for the third gen certainly wasn't storming in 93-95. Not like it is now. Time will tell I guess. here's to hoping!

MrWigggles 01-30-2003, 10:54 PM Here's a kit from Leguna Seca:
Front bumper...

I like the kit because it is simple. I especially like the front bumper spoiler which when added with the titanium paint job really makes the car look like an Aston Martin
I don't know anything about who makes the kit.
-Mr. Wigggles
Renesis08 01-30-2003, 11:48 PM I'm assuming that is the Mazda optional aero kit  .
I sure hope it is the mazda aerokit to because it looks killer. ;)
rx7tt95 01-31-2003, 08:53 AM I heard they were going to make certain elements of the X-men car available for purchase, perhaps that's it. I picked up a mini-brochure at the Mazda dealer a few weeks ago and it did not mention any add on aero kits. They're offering it for the Mazda 6 and Miata however, even a replacement grille for the 6 to get rid of that chrome top lip. The dealer even had a Mazdaspeed display up for Protoge' parts. If I were a betting man, and I am, I'd say that Mazda will almost certainly offer dealer installed aero "additions".

pmacwill 01-31-2003, 08:57 AM boowana (our inside authority) has mentioned in another thread that many accessories include aero kits will be available from the dealer once the car is released. I would not be surprised at all to see the kit from laguna available, probably for around $1000 from the dealer
bwayout 01-31-2003, 06:59 PM That titanium RX-8 that MrWigggles posted from Leguna Seca ... looks just like boowana's mystery black RX-8!
:D
bwayout 01-31-2003, 07:06 PM Here it is to compare
;)

:D
Except that the Titanium looks better :D and doesn't have the funky gas cover.
MrWigggles 02-02-2003, 08:34 PM Don't forget the clear turn signals on the titanium. A must for that color car.
-Mr. Wigggles
PsYcHo_Pilot 02-26-2003, 08:46 PM looks good, it is <as previously mentioned> riding way too high, and it needs a few vents in the hood.
plus a grid<large holes> over the radiator... and not black, same as bodywork
James 03-04-2003, 11:35 AM Nice job... But it HAS to be lowered.:D
I hope that there will be some nice bodykits short after the release of the RX 8... ;)
Something like this bellow..

RotorGeek 03-26-2003, 11:06 PM I'm sorry, but those are some nasty kits. I do like the photoshop job you guys did.
