well it was time to trade her 02 f150 for something a little bigger so it was between a new porshe cayane, suburban or this and though i wanted the cayane she went with the expedition. what do u guys think?

MisplacedRotors
07-20-2008, 11:14 PM
woulda stuck with a truck. if you needed bigger the tundra 4 door or dodge mega cab. the cayene wouldn't have been any bigger, but deffinitely a step up. not digging the wheels on the expedition. other than that looks aight.

the way bigass suv's are being offloaded, you likely picked it up for $15,000

frankcastle123
07-20-2008, 11:30 PM
it was originally 49,000 we got it for 34,000. and about the gas it gives pretty good gas milage it takes a total of $140 to fill the tank but the tank will last u 530 miles. the wifey works like 4 miles from the house so we are not that worried about the gas and i drive my police car to work so my rx8 gets driven maybe 100 miles a month if anything so theres no gas expense coming from my car....

mysql
07-20-2008, 11:33 PM
as long as you can afford the gas, kudos to you.

Getting 10 mpg city, and maybe 15-16 on the highway isn't my cup of tea. Bad enough seeing sub-20's on the rx-8 :)

its really not the distance that you can drive on one tank. i recently saw a (i believe it was a ford) commercial that dissed a mazda6 because their car could drive further on one tank of gas. so what? the gas tank is bigger. the money is still the same. distance on one tank = no value. mpg = value.

anyway, your wife made a poor choice. if you are going to get a gigantic gas guzzling suv you might as well do it in style. :banghead:

a ford is a ford... a porsche is a porsche. i dont think more needs to be said. but hey, people like staying at the level they grew up on. so whatever floats her boat.

frankcastle123
07-20-2008, 11:44 PM
the porshe was cool but the maintenance was going to kill me and it was a little to small. gas millage for the expedition is 18 hwy and 12 city. i get 13 city and 17 hwy on the 8.

Porsche vs. Expidition? WTF? It's your car but you could have gotten one with 10k on the odometer and saved 10k.

Altair 8

finally my chance to bash an suv over the internet. i totally dislike it and thinks its unnecessary. its fucking huge!!! what does she need that for, to carry 7ft basketball players in? even the chevy aveo commercial tried to debunk that. wtf is it for?? rx8 is a road driving performance car used on streets. suvs were made for other purposes...shit.

3. we go up 3 times a year to the mountains so we needed a4x4.

lol. Don't take it personally.

I recall seeing a poll that said women were far more likely to be interested in a man who drove a politically correct battery powered hybrid than a sports car.

In this kind of environment, you need thick skin to post that you bought a giant SUV.

We went from a large SUV to a 2008 Mazda Tribute 4cyl, Going from large to this size was an easy transition for my wife. She loves the Tribute and burning regular gas is great in these times. We have already taken it on a trip and is easy to drive and quite comfortable. We have bought all types of Mzdas over the years with one exception and have done quite well with reliability and satifaction.

Well congrats on the vehicle , as long as shes happy right? You're a good man my friend....a good man. (especially since you could've bought a porsche) but lets leave that aside , atleast you got her what she wanted. lol.

Frankcastle - You should've considered buying an Hummer H1 Alpha. Doesn't get much bigger, badder, and Americana than that. Plus you could haul your family, boat, house, and an oil rigger.

IMO, Porsche SUVs are a for blue tooth toting posers.

Lord ET
07-21-2008, 09:42 AM
H1's have a HUGE drive train tunnel and you can only seat like 4...it's quite pointless as a people carrier.. unless you mount a .50 cal on the roof....

girls typically want huge cars.. i don't know why...

rddragoness
07-21-2008, 02:04 PM
Why do I have my 8? My husband bought it for me because it's what I wanted, not what he wanted me to have.... We looked at the Z4, Eclipse Spyder, Boxter, among others, but I liked the 8 the best, forget gas mileage, and the fact I didn't have a clue as to what a rotary engine was. Same principal applies here. Frankcastle you are a good man for buying your wife what she wants, whether you get 10 mpg or 30.

Sure is a great time to buy an SUV. Did you have dealers fighting over your dollars or what??

It's nice, fits the bill for what you need and - most importantly - keeps the missus happy. Well done, sir!

That said . . . ditched that beefy, kick ass 150 for an expedition?? ewww. Women*, right? Can't live with 'em - pass the beer nuts. lol.

*(excluding mine, of course - Love you Honey!) :lol2:

lol j.k j.k

Well..if it floats her boat...that's all that matters, right? It was either a huge-ass suv or a guy with a really huge ****..... .chest, right? Smart choice, sir! :P

haha...again..ofcourse just kidding....!

that's more like it!
"1. we need a big truck that can pull a boat"
ok, good reason...but that boat uses a 2 stroke engine i suppose and creates more pollution in one day than that truck does in a month.
"2. we have kids and it is a bitch to go anywhere with all the shit that kids require"
kids should require very little, they are small adults after all. unless spoiled.
"3. we go up 3 times a year to the mountains so we needed a4x4."
I'd be more lenient if it weren't american

Altair, kids are little people that require strollers and car seats..or at least car seats...changes of clothes for messes, which require something to carry them in, be it a back pack or diaper bag. These things are not spoilers, they are the necessities that parents need to help ease a bit of the nerve wrecking responsibilities that children bring.

OP did I leave anything out?? LOL ;)

ok then, yes...what 6 kids? I've known 3 families with 5 or more kids. Each family had a Yukon or other SUV and that's when i can see it being needed. But any less than that you can manage with something smaller.

and btw i'm not bashing anyone's character here. I'm just generally giving my opinion which is backed by common sense and practicality. Fact is, in America especially, people waste continually, and i myself too when i was more ignorant. However, look at it... it's large, wasteful, and can be replaced by something more efficient, more practical, and probably less expensive. Yes, its anyone's choice to get whatever they want. But come on, some things are just filled with idiocracy.

frankcastle123
07-22-2008, 09:08 AM
dude youre talking about getting a vehicle thats more efficient? did u forget what youre driving? mazda rx8 most likely one of the worst less efficient cars out there, and just so you know this expedition is a little more efficient and practical than our 8s. comon sense? please

performance road car versus sport utility vehicle. case in point, rx8: efficient street driven performance car, Expedition: inefficient street driven suv.

This has to be the first time I have ever heard someone call our cars efficient.

The 8 is not an efficient sports car, a lotus elise is a efficient sports car 30+ mpg's (if a efficient sports car is possible). Also, you do realize that you are comparing a sports car to an suv in terms of efficiency, since when were either of them known for being efficient ?!?

Nice looking cars, good choice with black.
