I read that the best 0-60 times on automatic transmissions are achieved by throttling up with the brakes applied before launching.

I understand this is VERY HARD on the torque converter and plan to use the technique very sparingly.

What is a good engine RPM for this technique with the RX-8?

I read elsewhere on the forum that 3000 RPMS is a good launch. Do a search though it has been covered...

I didn't find anything on a search, but thanks for your 3000rpm suggestion. I'll try other automobile forums and get further info.

I agree with the 7 second zone and 3,000 to 4,000 revs (learn the break pedal hold & release method) is the launch zone. I used to have an Mitsubishi FTO, lived in Japan, and it was an automatic. Funny thing it was in the 7 to 8 sec zone and had slightly less hp to about the same hp (200 zone) as the RX-8 (Japan's RX-8 and FTO have a little more HP in general than the US versions). So based on my experience with the RX-8 (auto) and the FTO (auto), I believe the 7 zone times are accurate. But, I have heard and seen some e-mail rumors of 6s with an AUTO. Maybe mods, maybe a technique, don't know...

With a few cheap mods of the air intake, air filter, and exhaust... who knows? Maybe even the average auto may be able to get into the 6 zone.

Now the question is, how to get the RX-8 auto into the 5 second zone?

Feel free to post solutions.
