Any rx owner in CT .....

Hi,
Nice Rx8!
I live in Ct and have been closely looking at the new RX8.
I am concerned about some of the engine issues I have read in the other forums. What have you heard and what do you think about them?
Since you bought your RX8, any regrets(about the car, or about options?)
COngrats again!

Bought my Velocity Red 8 with everything but the Nav in October '03...No regrets!! A smile on my face every time I'm in it...Just not in the snow...

I don't have regrets buying the car.. My suggestion would be to wait till Spring... I am having hard time finding 18" snow tires...
What engine issues are u talking about

I love this car! Traded in a TT Quattro with absolutely no regrets.

The weird thing is that I have had the car since September and only seen one other 8 on the road - on 95 south of New Haven.

I am in Fairfield; where are all you guys!

Right now, my RX-8 is in Southington. I wouldn't advise driving one in the snow. I was out the other morning when a quick 1/2 inch fell and found myself spinning all over the place. Even at a slow speed, the back end kept sliding out. What was normally a "glued to the road" car, easily slid on a little bit of snow. I quickly returned to the house to get in the Durango. That's the last time my RX-8 will see the white stuff!!

is your car yellow....i always see a yellow 8 in BPT.
i have red rx7.

zoomzoomzoom
01-11-2004, 09:43 PM
Not me... I don't get down to BPT too often and besides, my 8 is velocity red with a spoiler and 18's. Like I said before, you won't see mine much during the winter white stuff on the roads. When I am out, its usually in the central part of CT...take care and zoom, zoom, zoom!!

if u seen a titanium grey rx around darien that would problably be me... and i work in Bridgeport @ sikorsky and haven't seen a yellow rx 8

zoomzoomzoom
01-12-2004, 02:19 AM
The titanium was my second choice color. A very nice looking ride!! The black is also very sharp, but a tough color to keep clean. If I owned a car wash or had nothing to do but keep my RX8 clean, I might have opted for black. All and all, I'm happy with my velocity red! I couldn't have chosen the car without actually seeing the color in person.

In the time that this cars been out ive only seen 2 out on the road or in a parking lot.

Ive seen that yellow one here in BPT to, that guys all over the place. The only other one that I saw was a blue one parked at the University of New Haven while I was working there.

I guess sales havent been incredibly great here in CT.

I live in Boston but end up in and around the Hartford area for business quite a bit (was just there from Sunday-Wednesday).

I wanted yellow so bad, but couldn't find one anywhere near NE.

I haven't visited this forum in awhile, so I guess it's time to say Hi.
I live in Ridgefield. I got my black 8 from Dworkin last August. I love it. I have a protege that I'm using when it snows - I'll get the winter tires next year. Nice car cptmorgan.

Holy crap this was an old thread. Anyway: Hamden, BC Shinka (the original Shinka). I have seen many more 8s this year: Silver or Grey (can't remember) in North Haven S&S plaza, Winning Blue at TMC in Durham, 2 Silvers and a Copper Red driving around Hamden, a Green in Waterbuy, BB in Branford...

Quite a few for RX-8s. I suppose few or none are on this board though.

Brilliant. I'll let you know the next time I'm going to John Harvard’s so I can view your heavily accessorized 8 sometime. Probably late August.

I’ve done little to my car. I’ll have some pics up somewhere after I get it back from the body shop (rear ended).

Cool, lemme know for sure. I haven't actually seen the inside of a shinka...other than looking in the windows of one at the dealership the other day. Most of my mods are exterior stuff....the only non-exterior piece is my AEM CAI. I'm dreading having to put it in the garage all winter though! No more driving 12 months a year! :(

^ Congrats and welcome (color, year?) You'll have to show up at John Harvards as well.

To j67345: I'll be there for sure its just a matter of when (it will be on most Friday nights after 7:00 likely). Why were you looking at Shinka's the other day? Trading up? Getting another 8 for a winter car?

cquinn
07-25-2006, 07:53 PM
Thanks Shinka, its an 04 BB, black/tan leather. Count me in for John Harvard's, I haven't met any fellow 8 owners yet

07-26-2006, 07:40 PM
Well, I wasn't looking for a Shinka...I was at the dealership getting a new key done (that was a mess....know anyone selling the top part of a switchblade key? The part with the alarm on it?)

And there was a copper colored (not sure what the correct name of the color is) Shinka there. Wow, I love the seats in it!!

j67345
07-26-2006, 07:41 PM
Ugh...winter car....I'll need one of those now!

Shinka-Dono
07-26-2006, 11:33 PM
Well, you don't absolutely *need* a winter car. I have yet to get one because I seem to be broke at all times. It’s just that some other little front or four wheel drive thing would do better (the 8 does ok with snow tires).

Which reminds me: Change your location. You're not in a sunny fantasy land anymore. You're in the gritty realism that is New England filled with rude angry cold people. Welcome! You'll be assimilated. I was nice once; I came here from Arizona. Now I'm a cantankerous asshole. :D:

j67345- were you at Morande a couple weeks ago getting your key done? I thought I saw a light colored 8 with a california plate in that service drop off area. It was pretty early on a Saturday morning i think

j67345
07-28-2006, 06:01 AM
Yup, that was me! 8am a couple Saturdays ago. That was frustrating...I bought a key from someone on the boards here...and it turns out it wasn't an RX-8 key. Bummer!! Were you getting work done on your car?

Yeah I was getting an oil change and brake TSB done. What do you think of the level of service there?

j67345
07-28-2006, 10:34 PM
Overall, I thought the service kind of sucked....the guy trying to help me with the key was real cool...he looked all over the place to try to find the remote part of an 8 key that he could swap to help me out. Actually, I told my wife there are some 8's out here, and she said she saw you pull in. She said she saw a black 8 pull into the service area...that's pretty ironic!

Man, that key thing sounds like a pain, sorry they couldn't get it worked out.

Actually the minute I left the dealer after buying mine, I saw a yellow one over near Adams st in Manchester. It was the first one I can remember seeing around here. Since then I've only seen yours, 1 white one, 1 silver, and 1 red. Maybe I'll notice more now that I'm looking for them

j67345
07-29-2006, 01:11 PM
There definitely aren't very many of them out here....I've seen a yellow one and a red one since I moved here. It's funny...in California I'd see 5 or 6 a week...I'd see at least one Ferrari and a few Lotus per week (there was a Lotus...and other exotics dealership a couple miles from my house).

I haven't seen anything out here yet!

8s don't sell well up here. Nor do other little fun things. Winter puts a stop to that. So we have boring rich people with SUVs, Volvos, Saabs, Audis, Mercs and Bimmers. Damn.

OK, I'm going to England. I'll be back in a couple of weeks to revive this thread from the ashes. It seems CT people are greatly understated (no pun intended, although this is a small state...). I'll post when I'm going to be at John Harvards. Anyone going to the exotic car show in NH? (It’s a sticky in NE forum). I'm reasonably sure I'm going.

I am returned from the U.K. where I saw 4 RX-8s in the first few hours there. I spotted many more thereafter (18) and clearly it is a much more popular car over there than it is in New England.

Anyhow, I am returned and will likely be at John Harvards Brew House in Manchester the Friday after next if anyone wants to have a quick meet up.

Mortal Moxie: Sounds good. Is Manchester within your range? Stop by John Harvard’s: they have good food and good beer.

vipertin: You should bring your yellow. The mysteriously named j67345 and Calvin Coolidge fan cquinn have expressed interest.

We may be able to have a good group by next Friday.

j67345
08-18-2006, 07:17 AM
hmmmmm....I didn't check the plates out. I was in my Pathfinder, so I pretty much blended in with every other car on the road.

Is there a better Mazda dealership out here than that one across the street from the Big Y (I think it is called Miranda or something?) I had my car in there last week to get the newest flash and a few TSB's....they are pretty rude over there, and I'm not sure they have a clue of what they are doing with the 8's. I'd rather find a better one, if there is one....any good recommendations for me?

vipertin
08-18-2006, 08:15 AM

j- check out Tony March Mazda or Liberty Mazda, both in Hartford. I've never been to either, but they are the next closest dealers I can think of.

Which TSB's did you have done at Morande? I've brought my car there a couple times and they've been nice. I didn't ask about the flash last time I was in and they did it anyway

Right. I'll be at John Harvard's (http://www.johnharvards.com/locations.htm) in Manchester at around 7:30pm this Friday. Good place to have a few and eat if you're into that sorta thing. We could start there. Anyone able to make it?

Also, anyone going up to the exotic car show in NH on Saturday? I'll likely be heading up early with a friend of mine. (Early = ~7:30am or 8:00am if I'm out too late on Friday night.) Might have lunch at Newicks while we're up there.

Nah lets set something further out there. So we can have time to set a route, pick a place to eat. A full day road trip or something. ya know?

I've setup some meets before that had awesome results.

When I had my old MX6 I coordinated a meet that over 60 MX6's showed up to. It was pretty sweet. Once we all met we cruised the Berlin turnpike and stopped somewhere to eat. I cant remember. But the turnout was good.

Im gonna make a post on it soon. I'll pick a date atlaest a month out.

Could use some help from somone. Promoting it, spreadin the word, helping to pick a good road trip route etc.

I live in Enfield, but work in Manchester. Yesterday I test drove an RX-8 in anticipation of getting one when I can afford the downpayment. I checked out the blue RX that Morande Mazda in Manchester has out front. Wicked sweet ride. Anyone from CT know a good rotary mechanic in the Manchester/Enfield area, or will I pretty much be bringing it to the dealer for anything that crops up?

Shinka-Dono
08-30-2006, 09:35 PM
If you buy the blue RX-8 and it has any problems you should just bring it to the dealer unless they demonstrate that they're idiots then you should bring it to another dealer. I'm assuming it'll be under warranty, yes?

That said, let me know if you find a good rotary mechanic in CT I'd love to know who it is (not being sarcastic, I really would).

I think it's still the best. I graduated in '03 but my brother is a junior there. Bringing the car on my way to the casinos.

Hello to the two new guys. We are alleged to be arranging some sort of cruise soon... ish.

The only suggestion I have is I plan on going up to Harney & Sons (tea makers) by way of Rt 7 (and other routs) through Litchfield county. Very nice drive. We may be able to arrange some sort of lunch/dinner/whatever stop and then we'll have a cruise. There are also some very nice state parks up there too. I'd like to do that in 2 to 4 weeks. I think the 8 owner have to meet befor the end off fall I know there are alot around Uconn and danileson I see a blue and grey in daneilson and yellow and black at uconn.

Any ideas on where to go? I suppose we could meet at UConn. We'd just have to figure out some good driving roads that'll lead to a good eating/drinking place.

On second thought, we should meet somewhere that is extremely easy to find and convenient. Could be near UConn, but not UConn.

so close to hartford that no one can say some is be favored milesage wise. that and the only thing about uconn is the all the cops and they really do not like cars like ours. and if they did pull on of us over it would suck for people how go there alot becuase they would just seek us out.

you can go to here for more info www.ccsucarclub.com it would be cool tp have a real presants there because at the uconn car show there was only one rx-8 and it was not even mine. I think it is $20 to enter a non student car and it belive it is free to just go and see or $5 at most. all of my car club is meeting at uconn first thou then we are going to crusic up there togeather

Hello CT gang

Have a few questions on Connecticut.

Thought I'd check in here to get some insight on where are good places to hang your hat around New Haven. Not in New Haven, but outside of there.

Research shows Branford and Naugatuck, although two different towns in opposite directions, from research, they are promising.

Work would be remote for the most part. Travel would be between Manchester and Orange then into NJ and one town in NY for him. For me it would be mostly via air, so access to the airport would be key, although an hour away is doable.

I have a VR and hubby has a BB. His and hers :) That's how we met. Also, what do you think of your 8 as a year round vehicle? If you don't use it year round, what is your alternate vehicle?

We're pretty active in the Dallas/Fort Worth RX scene, how's the scene up there?

Also, we're in our early 30's if that helps with the recommendations on areas to reside.

Sorry for being a bit cryptic, things are up in the air and just doing research.

TIA

if you're looking to move here, PM me and i can give you some insight. i moved here about 3 years ago from Chicago and originally from NM. i split my time between Times Square and Milford, CT and have to travel quite a bit so airports have become my friend. if it's just for visiting i'm sure the locals have more insight as to where to go but if it's to move, i did some homework and am now finally comfortable to buy a home here somewhat knowledgeably so my research is yours.

Saw two Silver 8 this morning 10/17/06 while driving in my red 8. First one had MASS license plate and got off exit heading towards east windsor and south windsor.

After he got off drove up about three miles and saw another silver 8.

You guys in here?

I saw a yellow on the day UConn lost to Army by the stadium in East Hartford right after the game was over. We flashed each other and I saw some aftermarket rims on it. One of you guys? Silver 8 here.

does anyone know the statute for clear side markers in CT? i have tried searching statutes and the only thing i could find is that they must be of the proper color but they don't say what that color is. i know some states don't care about the stealth white side markers but in milford if there is an infraction, these cops are sure to pull you over for it and won't let up. i'm trying to decide b/w just the regular clear corners with amber lights or go stealth with the white.

Stealths should be legal in CT. I wouldn't be worried about it so much, I drive with clears & ultrawhite bulbs and cops don't really seem to care. I got pulled over once on the CT/MA border at night and that's the last thing he would've noticed, he didn't say a thing. I even got away without a ticket.

I believe they have to illuminate yellow, clear or otherwise. I also believe I have no idea what I'm talking about.

I have clears & stealth bulbs with no problems. Now who is going to be the first to get a clear hood?

I hope so. Sounds logical that if you took care of it first they should reimburse you. Good luck. Let us know what their bullshit counter argument is.

should we do a quick roll call of who's actually interested in meeting up and which part of the state? i'm up and i'm down in milford. hartford is a semi-hike but if there's enough interest, i would make the trip up.

also, there's the issue of timing. winter is upon us so i'd like to get one together before we start getting the snow/slush in. otherwise the show in april may be the only choice once things start to warm up again.

fine man what ever my club does not really need you there anyway we had over 300 cars last year and expect over 400 this year and the cash go to the school funds for our group anyway so it a good cause.
