Hey guys i just passed 60k and a CEL comes on, Pepboys wanted 20 bucks to scan it. I thought i'd give 20 bucks to a fellow rx8club member if they wanted to stop by and scan my codes (that sounds dirty, haha). I live a mile from the center of west Chester, pa.

Where is the odb2/can port on the rx8, i have a 2004?

yes that is true but the only time i have to go in the next few days would be during rush hour and that would be about 1.5 hour round trip. the closest one is about 15 miles away

What a journey for a simple engine scan. i took the drive to autozone and the scanner kept coming up with an invalid scan. Then i went back to pepboys and figured i'd pay at this point. There was 3 technicians standing around doing nothing. The manager said i don't have any body free to do that for you why don't you come back another time. Riduculous it litteraly takes 1 minute to do this.

I then went across the street to a goodyear tire because i saw that they were still open considering by this point its around 5:30. They were open until 7:00. I went in and the guy said that he can do the scan but is not able to do it tonight, but i can leave my car there all day tomorrow and he can scan it for me. WHAT why would i leave my car all day with you to do a minute job. I told him i'll take it somewhere else.

I finally ended up at walmart i figured if they weren't open nobody would be at this point. I was determined to get this done considering by now I have driven all over town. At walmart the guy was more then happy to help me out even though he was packing up for the day. He was a young guy going through tech school. He scaned my engine gave me some good info about the code and my cat and we talked shop for like 10 minutes. He has a project el comino with a 350 in it.

It turns out the engine code is a p0420 which describes the o2 sensor sending an alert that the levels are incorrect in the cat. He told me that its most likely a faulty o2 sensor considering I'm having no other troubles. He said i should start with that and then if that doesn't work get it checked out. He also said that all catalytic converters are now covered for 8 years with unlimited mileage. Its a government mandate which is really good to know.

What a trip for a simple damn engine scan i couldn't get over the guy at goodyear wanted me to leave him my car all day for a 1 minute job. Beware of goodyear in exton, pa.
