Can anyone indicate who I'd contact to ship small retention sample of oil taken today during my first free 8K service oil change? The reason is curiosity--the RX8 has been absolutely perfect and trained mechanic at Mazda dealership said everything looks new and in top form. (He too was wondering why I'd go to the expense???).

I'll publish results, as I chose to follow manual exactly.

I may only go 4K to next oil change, in part due to fair bit of old oil stays in systems during oil change. (and mechanic suggested it'd be what he'd do.).

If no one knows, I could call friends at Shell, here in Ontario.
I had this done when I drove diesels.

Thanks in advance.

Just change it every 3500kms, then you don't have to worry about their suggestions to do otherwise, and you won't have to go though the exercise of second guessing yourself every time you wait to the specified interval.

I now have one name at www.fluidlife.com
Any others? Anyone heard of WearChek, Mississauga?

gord boyd, my friend has used Wearcheck in Miss in the past. He recently purchased some MOB2 kits which will give you all the needed details including TBN. Let me know if you would like to buy some kits from him, he's got a few extra.

I have added my "Wear Check" analysis to thread under Tech
for 8K kms analysis. Everything looks good and highly recommend this procedure.
