View Full Version : Sub under the seats?
Wondering if anyone has thought about or if there is room under the passenger seat for a sub.
My WRX had it and although it wasn't the boomiest thing, it was more then enough for me. Overall I'm finding the stock radio on the Subaru to sound much better than the non-bose setup in the 8..

Spin9k 11-18-2003, 04:06 PM Anyone have any specs like size to see if it fits anywhere in an RX-8? And then where to hook it in?
I like the pancake idea, as long as it sound decent considering its size.
AVI Make a compact 10 inch sub that requires a very small enclusure and has minimal mounting depth due to the way they mount the magnets on the inside of the basket...
Go here http://www.avisound.com/ and look at the sl-500 sub woofer.
I'm toying with the idea of an enclosure in the passenger footwell, with an aluminium face to match the driver pedals
It's specified to require a 17 litre (0.6 cubic foot) gross internal enclosure.
They also have some 8 inch subs that are specificed to run in abour 0.3 cubic feet...
There's probably a huge range of subs this technique could be applied to.
RX8FanMan 11-19-2003, 12:50 PM you think it will fit even if you have electric powered seats?
RX8FanMan 11-19-2003, 02:52 PM it says subaru, will it even work for the 8?
RX8FanMan 11-20-2003, 07:18 PM so will the subs fit or not?
rotarygod 11-20-2003, 07:39 PM Next time I look at one I'll measure the available area under the seats and tell you if I think it is worth the trouble. Right off the bat I'm going to say probably not but you never know.
RX8FanMan 11-20-2003, 08:00 PM yeah thats what i'm thinkin. But "sometimes things that look impossible are just right"

I didn't do this one or the others posted with it.
Awesome pic.. Not enough hood scoop though..
RX8FanMan 11-22-2003, 10:32 PM anyways, back to the sub question, will it fit?
Butt-in, comin across that pic twice is still funny-as-sin
Let me post over at Nasioc and see if someone knows the dimensions of the sub..
RX8FanMan 11-24-2003, 10:04 PM alright
What they said:
"OK, sorry it took so long, very busy today!
It's 8.5 x 10 x 2 (inches).
The sub taps into the speaker-level rear L and R +/- leads on the Subaru harness, and also takes +12V and ground. It has adjustments for crossover frequency and loudness level. Driver is about 5-1/4" or so. I think this ought to work with any car. It's decent for the size, but not like a real large sub. It will add some thump and round out the low end, but not really shake the car or rattle windows.
I thin for the price, the Infiniti Basslink is probably a better deal (assuming it fits your application).

And here is the full spec sheet.. Panasonic makes the sub:
