View Full Version : 2009 has arrived in Phoenix!
Easy_E1 06-01-2008, 04:20 PM So yesterday I recieved a call from my local dealer (Berge Mazda in Gilbert AZ) and it seems they have recieved a 2009 AT with leather for sale. There was an additional one on the transport truck (Silver) for another area dealer. I don't know off hand about any other 2009's that were delivered in the Phoenix area if any. I only saw these two.
Here is a pic of the one at Berge Mazda.

gtballa14 06-01-2008, 05:25 PM I actually dont like the front end. Mine is better lol.
DOMINION 06-01-2008, 08:38 PM ^+1 Mazda, What the Hell where you thinking? lol
RotaryP7 06-01-2008, 08:47 PM Thought the rims would look better.. Not really my style. And I agree about the front.
WinningRX8Chick 06-01-2008, 09:02 PM They also took the rotary symbol out of the seats... saw the 09 at both the Detroit and NY Auto shows... seems to be mostly cosmetic differences.. I have a some pics if anyone's interested. Got to sit in the one in NY..
Rims were better, imo, on the one at the show..
Detrich 06-01-2008, 09:04 PM this is probably the 3rd or 4th pix of the 2009 we've seen on this board in that color. and, i hate to say it but, in each case there seems to be a slight color discrepancy between the front bumper and the rest of the car.
was i the only one that noticed this?
RotaryP7 06-01-2008, 09:46 PM ^ lol, looks like that fiber type black. You're right.
RotoRocket 06-01-2008, 10:32 PM Don't care for the nose, hate the wheels.
Glad I have an '05.

camera, angles, and lighting.
I want those wheels!
moby1325 06-02-2008, 12:14 AM when are we going to get the new engine? why are people going to buy a car with 16-22 mpg with gas at $4.00 a gallon. why would we want to buy the same car that has been sold since '03 with none of the mechanical upgrades that the mazda reps said would be coming as the Rx-8 progressed? I still drive an Rx-7 convertable, and absolutely sweeet car if there ever was one. what is wrong with marketing that they can't figure out that people would buy a convertable with a rotary engine, yea a two seater! Call it an RX-5 and who cares if it's not a supercar? I would buy one. The pure joy of driving a convertable with the lovely sound of a rotary engine is pure bliss. I want to be able to buy a new one. hear that MAZDA????

I know I do.
Design1stCode2nd 06-02-2008, 10:36 AM Are R3's hitting dealers yet? I want to test drive an R3 to compare the difference to a Shinka.

The one in the show was an R3 package (19inch wheels, Recaro seats, different front bumper, different suspension, etc etc). I believe the non-R3 package still have the same seats.

Shut up, Mazda doesn't cater to you.
Why are people going to buy it? Why don't you ask all the people that have already bought it....
DaveCM203 06-02-2008, 06:17 PM I really hate how they have that plastic looking piece on the front. I am just not big on the whole new front.

The miata is getting a rotary(probably). Cardinale way in AZ has 09's 6spd too.
Mister Man 06-02-2008, 06:32 PM : hugs own 08 RX-8 :
With the exception of the tech upgrades (bluetooth, etc) I really like the interior/exterior styling of the "old" ones.

Have to agree with you here...
MX-5 with a rotary...BLISS II

moby1325 06-03-2008, 11:22 AM If you guy's don't like bitchin what do you think got you the RX-8 in the first place, with ford controlling Mazda its bitching from us RX-7 guys that made the push for a new rotary product happen. I will buy an Rx-8 eventually as my sevens are old and I want new technology but they have not given me a reason to buy a new one, hell the '09 is ugly! Put a rotary in the miata and I'll buy one, now!
It's too bad Mazda has this carbon problem with the RX-8 as I'm guessing that's why we don't have new cars coming out or the engine upgrades. When are they going to dump the current oil metering system and go to two cycle oil?

Mazda has "dumped" their MOP system for totally new electric pumps ("2" in fact), the 09 RX-8 now has 3 oil injection nozzles per rotor in a "2" stage configuration depending on RPMs.
The carbon issue (marbles) is nothing new all rotaries can suffer, even my new 1973 10A Rx-3 coupe had the issue at 35,000 Miles in 1975.
It has been the lack of engine oil lubrication which has caused engine failures for the 8, and a few coolant entries, but even your RX-7's can suffer from this.
I am not happy with the new 8 looks, but it is growing on me and I will be buying one this year.
I would not buy and old model in a fit now all the upgrades have happened...that's what I have been waiting for all these years.
IMO if the price of Gas does not come down dramatically I do not think we will see any new (Dino powered only) rotaries.
sb350z 06-03-2008, 05:29 PM the front end doesnt look that good.. thought it would be much better looking. maybe its better in person?
delhi 06-03-2008, 05:45 PM what's with the puffed up front lip? It looks comical.
moby1325 06-03-2008, 10:45 PM thanks to Ash8 for the reply on the oil metering system, does it still use the motor oil from the crankcase? Why did some motors fail due to oil starvation and why the comment from the rebuild shop guy about seeing motors come back so full of carbon that you could not remove the seals from the rotors. I don't remember the post but he had pictures of an anniversary model inside the new rebuild plant.

you really need to read more and post less. start with the stickys. right now you are just going down the list of talking points for trolls..
as to the front, it is growing on me. i really like the larger oil cooler openings!!!
beers

Yes, the new EOMS (Electronic Oil Metering System) still uses crankcase oil, however, it will be delivered in a more precise manner
by the engines PCM (ECU).
IMO. First, if you get jammed side or apex seals in a rotor the reasons are possibly 3 fold.
1. Engine has suffered extreme heat stress.
2. Insufficient oil metered to lubricate seals.
3. High Carbon build up.
I believe it is a combination of all 3, I said in posts years ago that I was concerned about the air flow from the front nose panel as the openings are small, then some owners fitted after market grilles to prevent stone damage to oil cooler/condenser/radiator.
Again this can restrict air flow further.
Carbon will always be there ,but, much can be related to the type of gas used (high octane is recommended) along with poor lubrication.
Also many owners trying to drive economically is not good for any rotary, a red-line a day blows the carbon away..so to speak.
Those who drive constantly under 4000 RPM are looking for trouble.
IMO Mazda have addressed all these issues with the new 09 model.
1. Larger air intakes.
2. EOMS
3. Larger oil pump and crankcase.
4. Rumored changes to the water pump and radiator.
Along with all the 04-08 PCM Flash upgrades over the years also controlling electric cooling fan cut in and out temperatures, engine timing/tune, even spark plug changes.
Wooo! The Joker edition arrives just in time for Dark Knight!
astav 07-01-2008, 02:22 PM Can you take a few more pics of this?
I'm considering buying a black one with the red leather and you are the only one who has spotted one so far...
thanks!
