I have a 2004 RX8 with 50K miles. Periodically I get the power sterring indicator light come on and the power sterring is dead. I have taken it into the dealer dead and all the sudden it is working again. It can go for months with no problem then one day it stops working for a few on/offs. Then starts working again for long periods of time.
Since the power sterring is electrical, i am almost certain that its a short or loose wire, but the dealer can't find anything.
Has anyone out there had a similar problem?

There Are A Few Threads On This. Most Of The Time Its Corrosion On The Connecters For The Eps Rack. Some People Have Cut The Whole Thing And Soldered Them Together.

Since it's now getting warm here in Az, the coolant bottle may have vented it's self on the PS connector right below it...
You have to take out the air box, it's tray and then you can get to the connector..
usually its just dirty or corroded from the coolant spillage. Clean it off and connect it back up.

could be low voltage aswell. i had a similar problem with my car i lost the power steering altogether.
apparently if the car isn't producing enough voltage for everything to run it turns things off like power steering. you need to unhook the battery for a few minutes to reset it. atleast that worked for me.
good luck

I too lost power steering this morning on my 2005 RX 8 manual trans.
Anyone out there have photos, sketches, to help find a cure.
Has anyone had success in repair? Local dealer seems clueless.

My problem is fixed. found the drain from the overflow from the radiator spills down on the connection junction for the power steering corroding the connections. I put silicon on the ends making it waterproof and cleaned up the connectors and the problem hasn't come back.
I also replaced the 36 month battery (4 years old) + the postive connector terminal that was corroding slightly (the 60 map fuse to the power steering is attached)
Thanks all.
