The red inserts can be removed, or painted for another car. Also they come with a set of Chrome inserts and a set of carbon fiber inserts.

New Wheels First Set Sold by Tire Rack
sshsbball5 05-06-2008, 07:15 PM lol oh, didnt pay attention. how much did they cost?
Peppy@kacework 05-06-2008, 09:46 PM Sorry, I have to be honest. Those are hideous and cheap looking. If you like them that's all that matters though ;)
nvrfalter 05-06-2008, 09:55 PM ehhh naht
Aipex8 05-06-2008, 10:42 PM First set sold because no one else would want to be seen with them! :) Sorry, had to.
N rider89 05-06-2008, 11:40 PM those are kinda wrong.....
thebiggdaddy 05-06-2008, 11:44 PM ......
nuke0907 05-06-2008, 11:55 PM if they were Konigs they'd be the same as the skull RX8. :puke:
Mazdaspeed RX8 ver2 05-07-2008, 12:22 AM no comment.. :icon_no2:
Easy_E1 05-07-2008, 12:31 AM I'm sorry , I don't care for them at all. But if your happy, thats the main thing. Enjoy.
briann 05-07-2008, 12:33 AM Maybe if there wasn't any rivets...
hmmm..
As long as you're happy i guess.
Silver06 05-07-2008, 12:55 AM Howard, I like them. Looks good on the VR.
At the very least, according to the comments above, not everyone on the block will have them....... :)
For reference, please post wheel size, offset & tire size. Thanx.
Project04S3P-v.2.0. 05-07-2008, 02:35 AM here goes my feedback!! i think this is the 1st and only set tirerack is going to sell, but thats just my opinion its a downgrade from the stock wheels:lol:
Detrich 05-07-2008, 02:37 AM not feeling the rims. but as long as ur happy. congrats
ScottyStyles 05-07-2008, 03:03 AM I actually like it, and was considering a similar set (from Enkei, I think) with the insert option for my own car. In the end, I'm going to go with a more subtle red on the wheel, like the red pinstripe around the edge, but... well... I definetely like your wheels, for what it's worth :)
HCTR154 05-07-2008, 07:26 AM Not that bad, but I don't really like the red in the middle of each "spoke"...
Justarius 05-07-2008, 08:12 AM Maybe if there wasn't any rivets...
I agree, the rivets take away, but they certainly are eye catching! When you pull up beside cars at a stop light you will get noticed... as to the response... pretty mixed I would imagine. ;)
chrism 05-07-2008, 08:36 AM i actually considered these for a little bit.....its true
Howard 05-07-2008, 09:04 AM I actually didn't expect so many negative responses. I use to get a lot of comments on my RX8, live that is, in the past, but recently it seems to go unoticed.
Once I put the rims on the responses have beeen very positive and quite a few people including a couple of RX8 owners said they liked them.
Several people mentioned the rivets. I though rivets were like metal fasteners that were permanently attached. These are actually screws with allen heads.
I considered putting the black inserts in as the red might be too much.
As for being a downgrade from the stock wheels. More then one person said the stock wheels look like mattel toy wheels.
Actually I changed them because after 4 years of driving in a area with horrible roads and curb rash they were looking pretty bad.
I did notice these wheels look a lot like several other wheels that Tire Rack had from other manufacturers except for the removable inserts.
Somebody asked for additional information so here is the link.

pdxhak 05-07-2008, 09:15 AM I did not realize they had inserts :) I like the looks better without inserts and then with the CF inserts.
no inserts

imput1234 05-07-2008, 12:31 PM I think these look a lot better than those koing crap everyone has, but still not my taste.
N rider89 05-07-2008, 03:41 PM wow with out the red i think they look a great deal better. i would go no rivets or cf.
Decat 05-07-2008, 03:52 PM Only rims with inserts I like are on my SUV:

edit: oh shizzle, didn't even know the vehicross had its own forum ..yikes!
Project04S3P-v.2.0. 05-07-2008, 06:16 PM I did not realize they had inserts :) I like the looks better without inserts and then with the CF inserts.

Are those available in the US?

ahem...
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd268/calvinplb/RX8/IMAGE_061a.jpg
anywayyy. they do look much better without inserts or with black/carbon fiber ones. but if you really like them with the red, keep em like that. fuck what we think. its all about your own taste
G-ReX 05-08-2008, 09:29 PM Just to be contrarian: I like the wheels and the look on the car.:icon_tup:
realdeal 05-08-2008, 10:13 PM I like these, it gives you a chance to alter the look of your car without having to buy another set of wheels, and with 3 inserts (red, chrome, carbon fiber) it gives you 4 different looks. The red insert is growing on me for some reason, I'm seriously considering getting these.
realdeal 05-08-2008, 10:21 PM Hey Howard, do you mind posting pics of the other inserts?
Aipex8 05-08-2008, 11:09 PM Those actually look pretty good with no inserts, I've always liked the twin 5-spoke look.
Razz1 05-09-2008, 02:19 AM Definately an eye catcher.
I bet they look much better in person.
Funny how wheels look on the net vs in person.
bruce_van 05-09-2008, 11:00 AM Take some pictures of the wheels without the inserts. PLEASE! if you want to redeem yourself on this thread.
Howard 05-09-2008, 11:46 AM Well I was happy to see some less negative response.
I did look at the Koonig version of these wheels and I think these look much better.
They look much nicer in real life then the pictures.
I will be trying the No-Insert look and the Carbon fiber inserts later but decided to leave the red in for a while.
I'll post some pictures when I change inserts.
The red are somewhat more flashy then without inserts or the CF and eventually I will probably go that way but for now I'm happy the way they are.
The rivets as everyone calls them don't add a lot however I saw several very expensive wheel at tire rack with rivets.
As for reddeming myself I'm not so sure that I am the one in this post who needs redeeming LOL
RA-Eight 05-09-2008, 11:50 AM The rivets as everyone calls them don't add a lot however I saw several very expensive wheel at tire rack with rivets.
Those expensive wheels with rivets are most likely because they are multi-piece wheels and those rivets are functional in holding the wheel face to the wheel barrel.
brothervoodoo 05-09-2008, 12:24 PM With the RED inserts you are running a close 2nd to this guy....

VarneyMazda 05-09-2008, 12:27 PM Loose the covers it looks way better without them!!!!
Looks better w/ out the inserts... but, its YOUR car so enjoy it.
nvrfalter 05-09-2008, 04:18 PM As for reddeming myself I'm not so sure that I am the one in this post who needs redeeming LOL
you certainly arent.
Revvittupp 05-09-2008, 04:44 PM Wow...how come i've never seen that car before lol
Are those available in the US?
Yeah its pseudo rare but available here... I was looking into them at one point, original, and reasonably reliable. A lot of the parts are shared with anotehr isuzu SUV, dropped my mind right now which, so parts shouldn't be TOO bad...
im no way a fan of gimmicky wheels, but these arent totally bad. Maybe the red is just too much on the wheels, but they are not bad looking with the carbon inserts.
To be named later 05-10-2008, 11:21 AM I think they are great.
Plenty of 8's with rivets have been pictured on this board with rivets and I've never seen a negative comment, so why start now?
The inserts aren't my style, but at least they don't look like crap. And I've seen people spend big $$$$$$$ on crappy wheels or body mods or colorize their wheels some cheap and ugly way, so this is nothing.
The inserts are removeable so basically it is like two wheels for the price of one, and they are kick ass to begin with.
Nice.

Yeah it was built by Isuzu as more of an eye catcher to simply get people into the showrooms. It was basically a concept car they decided to make 4,000 of on a limited production run, much like the Prowler. The plastic body panels were made in molds that would only produce around 4,000 units so they knew from the get go that it would be very limited production. It shares a lot of parts with the Isuzu Trooper. They were only available in the US from 1999 to 2001. People still stare and ask me when it is coming out, lol. Very unique vehicle that gets more stares than any car I have even been in. It is more capable off road than most Jeep Wranglers, has 4 wheel drive all the time, Recaro racing seats and leather all around. There were no options, just loaded from the get go.

I don't know Howard, you asked for opinions. So what you meant to say was, "Feedback welcome..... but only if it's positive"?? :uhh: Cars are a VERY subjective item and you went pretty "out there" with your choice. Good for you, in your subjective opinion, it was a good move! Stand by that and don't be offended if people disagree when you ask for their input. If some people don't like it, that's not your fault but it's not their fault either. /end sermon :)
Justarius 05-13-2008, 12:37 PM The rivets as everyone calls them don't add a lot however I saw several very expensive wheel at tire rack with rivets.
Expensive doesn't always equal good taste! Case in point, take a look at this and read the comments people post:
http://most-expensive.net/mp3-player-world
Haha, woops, while on that site I just noticed a much more relevant example:
http://most-expensive.net/wp-content/DSC00828.jpg
Too funny. These $1,000,000 rims come with a free Bentley Continental GT as a manufacturer's rebate!
Personally, the rivets are what loses me on your rims. On the other hand, I can dig the inserts and overall look. Last year the stock rims (at the dealer here anyway) were some kinda new design with rivets. Ouch! I was so thankful I got mine in 2005... agreed, the stocks can look a little "Mattel plasticy" as you call it. Thankfully the ones on mine have the bright finish alloy which makes them look quite solidly metallic. At night time they positively glow sitting in dark parking lot.
Even still, when I got new rims for my winter tires I have to admit a change from stock, even bright finish alloy stock, is nice. ;)
But to each, their own. Maybe rivets are the new "thang". Even the most expensive rims in the world pictured above have them!
