View Full Version : Debadging
SoopaDoopa 04-22-2008, 09:05 AM After hours and hours of searching, I can't seem to find if MAZDA uses holes to line up their badging. I.E. If I debadge it, will their be holes in the trunk and hood? I plan on replacing the hood with CF, but not so much the trunk. Most of my other cars don't have the holes and are held in by double sided tape or something, but how about our 8s?
Yes. I did search.
monkiboi69 04-22-2008, 09:11 AM I think the badge on the front bumper has holes. Not sure about the others.
SoopaDoopa 04-22-2008, 09:26 AM I actually just found it via google. The MAZDA logo on the hood and the MAZDA logo on the trunk are pinned. The RX-8 logo on the trunk is adhesive. That one is probably the only safe bet pulling off.
I'm going to get an extra set of badges and paint them matte black on my WB RX.

canaryrx8 04-22-2008, 10:18 AM you must suck at teh search, yhis has been gone over about a million times lol
front emblem = 3 holes
back "mazda" = 2
back "M" = 3
"rx-8"= sticker
to do it right you'll need those holes sealed up and painted over, back decklid can be welded/bodyfilled over, front is a little bit tricky as it's plastic but just about any reputable shop should be able to fill the holes using plastic repair compound or something similar. (or fiberglass, but that might crack or punch through over time)
good luck, it's worth the hassle (in my opinion anyway) and cleans up the car quite a bit ;)
Fortunate Few 04-22-2008, 12:48 PM you keep saying the emblem is on the hood... its on the front bumper.

The back M has 2 holes. I took mine off , looks alot cleaner without it.
canaryrx8 04-24-2008, 10:18 AM evidently I suck at teh counting, but yes it's 2 posts on the M's, not sure why I posted 3 as I've looked at a million of those things since I have a friend who offers me "extras" all the time from his bodyshop work, must have been thinking of something else when I posted :dunno: :banghead:
Socket7 04-24-2008, 11:47 AM I would like to know what a good price is to have the holes filled. For those who have had their holes filled, how much did you pay?
I think i want to remove the mazda emblems, as well as the mazda badge on the back and leave the RX-8. (Mazda badge may get replaced with the word "renesis" depending on the cost of filling holes.) If filling holes is cheap I may debadge the entire thing.

why would u need an extra set of badges? just use fishing string or teeth floss to take off the badges and paint them. After they are dry use auto glue to put them back on. I finished in under an hour. They have stayed on for about a year now and dont look like they are comming off anytime soon.
SoopaDoopa 04-25-2008, 01:10 PM I may go that route. I was going to get an extra in case regardless if I f*ck one up. Always good to have. I may just do gold.
EDIT: I didn't mean hood. I meant bumper.
RXJei 05-12-2008, 02:40 PM I've been thinking of doing the matte black on all the emblems as well. what kind of paint is everyone using? duplicolor?
ShinkaTeen 06-08-2008, 01:06 AM im thinking of doing the same thing and just leaving the "8"
Lil_Gato 06-10-2008, 10:37 AM i just popped my emblems off a while ago... I dont have the holes filled but they are not too big so its not that bad, plus I plan on getting a carbon trunk why spend money on getting them filled.
Funny is a guy a body shop had no idea what my car was, even caught him checking the trunk for emblems.. haha.
Renesis07 06-10-2008, 12:26 PM lol, I didnt search and went to strip my badges 2 years ago with dental floss. I started on the RX8 logo and got it off, then move to 'mazda' and was like WTF!!! Then I realized and was like OH SHIT!! So my RX8 logo is shaved and thats it. lol. I put it on my subbox.
KoDeD 06-17-2008, 03:16 PM I was wondering. The dealership i bought it from (Nelson Mazda) added a badge above the original "mazda" badge that says "Nelson"... There's no chance that it is pegged in correct? Because I really want to get as much off as I possibly can..
xsnipersgox 06-17-2008, 04:00 PM go at it with a dental floss, i bet it will come right off.

Should just be double sided tape...unless they drilled into your car which would be crazy.
Use the methods described here with the floss. I've also heard about using a hair dryer to heat it up a bit and get the tape soft. If there is any remaining residue, I think you can used goo gone or something like it.
