racing around Torrance, CA

already posted this in the competition section, but this is probably a better place for it.

i recieved a job offer over the summer which would require me to relocate to Torrance, CA. not sure if i'll take it yet, im thinking about the costs to ship my car, finding a place to stay, etc. but part of my motivation for going is having more opportunity to race. here in hawaii we have autox and thats about it. furthermore, we dont have racing in the summer because of the state fair which happens on the parking lot we race in.

anyway, i was wondering since i dont know cali very well, if i could ask for some help. if i move up there, i wanna be able to race as much as i can in the short time that ill be there. i guess that means like any track days that are open to the public and not too far away, scca solo ii as well (which i do here), any possibilities id really appreciate.

thanks!

Depends on what your definition of "not too far away" is. There are autocrosses, but the tracks are more than 100 miles away, though trackdays happen fairly often.

willow springs is about 1 hour away from LA. very popular track, and always worth the drive. there's also california speedway (bit closer) and buttonwillow (great track.)
a good friend of mine works in torrance and also from hawaii, shoot me a PM if you do move out here.

there are 10 days of events i could potentially participate in over the summer at buttonwillow, california speedway infield, and willow springs road course. would my car be able to handle it all?

theres also www.speedtrialusa.com
summer is hot in socal, the sheer heat and overheating concerns will be a deciding factor on your track days.... when i went last summer track temps at willow were 125+, you will need good tires... i was running falken 615's and they turned to mush after 3 laps..woops..
