OK, I went ahead and singed up today, I don't want to miss out. With Roebling being full already, I could not afford to wait, Barber is way too much fun to miss. I will be in DE3, first time for that at Barber, but I look forward to it. Who else is gonna go, I know some of you hos will.

The track is growing on me...... when coming down depends on work...june is hell, plus i am in FL for 10 days right after that....I may be coming in the am of the event......but staying saturday night. So if you wanna get a room and someone else...have at it, I'd like to request floor space Saturday night.

Chevy Malibu's work pretty well on track (if it is really wet and you like opposite lock cornering).

I was out there this past weekend with BMWCCA and the track seemed to get pretty greasy as the temp got up in the afternoon, just a warning.

I also cracked my windshield, looks like maybe from stress or maybe from where I ran off as I don't see a mark wher anything hit it. Do y'all think I can get away with running it at NASA once or do I need to try and get it fixed ASAP?? I would like to wait til I had more time so it's not such a hassle to get it done, but I also don't want to get dq'd at tech because of it.

L8APEX
05-27-2008, 08:45 AM
i noticed that the track got greasy as the weekend went on last year, and I had to back down a little, and that was in October, I can't imagine what it will be like in June. I remember the Grand Am racers saying that the track had lost grip and lap times were up in general.

As for the windshield, I don't know, on DE cars they check brake lights and helmets, not sure about TT, and not sure what they would say. If it is a big crack, that obstructs your view, I would definitely get it fixed.

dbright007
05-27-2008, 09:54 AM
They haven't been checking squat for DE in tech as L8 said.
However, I wouldn't want to chance my weekend on something I had to replace any way and maybe or maybe not sneak thru tech.

I would either ask them thru email, phone, or Nasaforums - or just get it replaced.
The other thing to remember is Barber is alot stricter about their rules than many tracks, so NASA has to be a little stricter than usual.

Don't forget your long sleeve shirts guys! And pants in some cases :eyetwitch

I won't mention the name of the person who rode/drove a session at RR a week ago in shorts..... and we all know the other pants story.

L8APEX
05-27-2008, 09:59 AM
does Barber require the long sleeves, I know NASA is allowing the short sleeves in hot weather. Long sleeves in hot weather will be hot as hell.

long pants, check, I have those. Never go to the track without them...now. Someone drove in shorts...:Eyecrazy: oops. It weren't me, I know that.

SPICcnmGT

Barbers doesn't require long sleeve as we were allowed to wear short sleeves this past weekend. I'd bring a set just incase though.

The good think about the windshield is that it is on the passenger side and doesn't come down any further than the rear view so it has basically no obstruction. I'm going to call and check on prices later today if I get a chance.

dbright007
05-27-2008, 01:07 PM
Cool,
I could be wrong but I swore one of the supps last year was long sleeves.

All the better if not, but I will make sure I read the supps when they arrive.

SPICcnmGT
05-27-2008, 02:57 PM
It maybe I'll try to check tonight. They gave us a copy of them that past weekend.

Actually now that I think about it, I think that is the only time I've ever ran and had to wear long sleeves was at the NASA event last year. hmmm....

SPICcnmGT
05-27-2008, 06:59 PM
This is what the 2008 rules and regulations say:

"Long sleeved shirts and long pants of a natural fiber are to be worn"

But I've been there many many times and last year was the only event I've ever had to wear long sleeves. So it doesn't seem like they enforce it, but NASA must have.

You will have to do us the honor of posting it here in the SE track ho section!

And yeah, Nasa has become pretty easy on the shirts for DE. The groups have pretty much been saying "do whatever you want, just sign the waiver".
Doesn't matter, I will still bring a couple long sleeve cause tracks can have their own rules, and I dont need to be finding a walmart in bofunk, alabama sat morn...:squint:

Don't know if anyone still premixes for track/daily - but I have 6+ bottles of Idemitsu. The miata doesn't like it for track :uhh:

Another fun track weekend spent at the nicest facility in the SE with some of my best friends. Thanks to all for coming out and sorry that a few of you couldn't make it. Next time I hope.
Phlash - the accommodations were excellent as you were the host with the most. Thanks for bringing the RV and putting some of us up. It was great fun staying in the paddock all weekend. Track during the day and beer/brats/cigars at night. Awesome. the Cooper had a blast too. Thanks for letting me ride with you. You swooped through the corners in that little go cart. Lil Phlash was a trooper and hung out with us all weekend. I hope he had a good time. He will sleep well for a few days!
L8APEX - a very finer performance on track. When I rode with you, you were excellent and I had little to offer you. I had a great time getting out on track with you and Silver and pacing you. In the last session we drove, when TA2 and I played around for some good photo ops, you drove away from us. I had a hard time reeling you in. Thankfully you backed off a bit so I could close up.
Silver - I was delighted to ride with you on the first session. You too had a good grasp of the track. When I drove behind you later, your lines were great and you were moving fast. In most parts of the track I could just hang on. The main differences between me and you and L8 were that I went into 1 harder, carried a bit more through the kink, and then just stretched the limits in 12 - 14.
Lego - Too bad on the blown tire early on Saturday but it was great that the street tires had no rub issues. You would have taken 1st place in class both days had you just gone out to turn a few laps.
Dano - sucks that the rules change caught you out but I think you made the right decision. If you would have put harnesses in, I would have used the factory 3 point along with the harnesses because the shoulder belts would not have been properly positioned. It was good that you hung out Friday night and part of Saturday. I was glad that I could take you out for a session so you got some track.
TA2 - congrats on a 1st place in TTC. Well deserved and you were certainly due. When I tried to hang with you, you were able to drive away in the straights with your new extra power. In the turns I could gain in only a few places but for the most part you kept the gap.
Russ - you were a great HPDE2 student. Once you learned the track, you drove it with precision. Work on braking next time (compress braking, maintain braking while heel/toe down shifting).
Don/Donna/Suzie - It's always great to see y'all at the track and paddock together. Don - you are getting faster and faster every time I see you. It is Suzie's turn to do some DEs now.
KurtBob - first thanks for helping me secure the in car communicator from John. that made my weekend easier. It was great to hangout over the weekend and get a bitg of a teasing by you (well deserved of course). My recent results have done wonders for making my helmet fit better.
SPICcnmGT - congrats on a podium in TTA in your 3rd gen. You had fast company so 3rd place was excellent. Great to see you again!!!
I had a rough TT weekend with lap times a full 4 seconds off my last Barber visit. I was disappointed in that but I drove to the best of my abilities. I pushed as hard as I dared and sometimes a bit harder than that. It just wasn't there. I don't know if I am experiencing the reduced grip of many many heat cycles of used Hoosiers, a weaker motor, or the change in gearing due to the 17" wheels. I had the most fun driving in HPDE3/4 with my friends this weekend. Thanks for everything guys and see you on the track again.

Freaking AWESOME weekend! I got a few pics and some good video to share. Can't wait to pull it all together. Not time for my full write-up now but a special thanks to a few people that made my weekend EXCELLENT!

- FIRST and most important: phlash, without the RV, dude I couldn't have survied. Thanks for the ice pack and the air-conditioning. Also enjoyed the mini-C and the mini-phlash.
- 2nd and most important... just as much as phlash, L8 for helping me with my car when the heat beat me into submission. That was tremendous of you.
- III and just as important as phlash, TrackAddict and Lego for there in-car instruction.
- iv and just as important... Lego for his humor on and off the track
- #5 and still just as important... TorqueAholic for all the great conversations and being a great roomy. Sorry you didn't get to ride with me. I just didn't have it in me that after lunch on Sunday.
- 6th ... just as important to me, kurt bob for your help in defeating that impacted socket on the impact wrench that I thought I was going to have to replace.
- SEVEN ... just as important... Don & Donna & Kevin for the shelter, fan, conversation, tools and professionalism. You guys are a class act!
- 8th just as important as the others... Russ, for bringing that awesome dream machine of yours. Enjoyed the conversation.
- ninth: ... and just as important... Jim, always fun talking with you and nice to see you like to hank with us.
- X: and always on the most important list... Dano, dude... I was soooo sorry to hear the bad news of your not being able to track because of a rule change at the last min. Thanks for bringing the oil and we will see ya out again soon.

Installment #2 coming soon. I just don't have time for all the tracking stuff... oh was it sweet!

Ok…in between madness of the two weekends now....

I had a GR8 time!!! WOOHOO!!! STOKED!!! It was sooooo great seeing you all again. The official mileage for the lodge was a little less than 3 hours each way, 328 total miles at 8.87 miles per gallon (YIKES!). Good Gawd it was hot!!! Lil’ Phlash just hung right in there but has crashed early since we got back. Poor AC in the lodge did everything it could to try to cool things down. I spent some of last night repairing the trailer damage I did to the lodge, but it’ll be OK. The Cooper (AKA scream machine) turned out to be quite a hoot to drive. It can be thrown all over the damn place and complain not. I think my 500 tread wear tires were the only thing at the track louder than L8’s flame throwing exhaust. It got to the point after the first couple of sessions the corner workers just kinda ignored me rather than watching me thinking I was loosing it. I got a lot of comments from a couple of them.

Don, Donna, and Suzie (note the European spelling)-once again thanks for the use of your shade, the sharing of the power pole, the big ass floor fan, and of course your always welcome company and humor….even with Don giving me a hard time I enjoy having you guys around.

TA – Congrats on yet another trophy! Thanks for the ride along and for taking me for a ride.

L8 – A year (since I last rode with you) has made a HUGE difference! You Rock man! I was great watching you play chase with TA.

OMS – You have come back to the track pipe with a vengeance! I enjoyed watching you and L8 go back and forth. Can’t wait to see the new pics. Glad the lodge helped with the heat issues.

Lego – Oh great spin master…….sorry about the slicks….(welcome to my world of street tires). Thanks for the stickers!

Dano – Tough luv baby…..sooooo sorry you missed the track time. That really sucks the way it came about. We’ll be back on track soon enough.

KurtBob – Always a hoot to see the little car trailering in what seems like more and more stuff each time.

TA2 – WOW a weekend with no spins or off tracks……you da man, glad the new add on’s worked out for you. Congrats on yet another trophy for your shelf as well.

Russ – Glad you could join us on the track and for beer and brats. The car is awesome. I hope you can join us for our next event.

To all of you…thanks for bringing food, ice, drink and paper stuff for the weekend and for the contributions to the cause. I know I went through sooooo much water I can’t count. I think we should do Baber again in Oct with PBOC. Glad there was no drama that none of us can’t recover from. Sharing the weekend with all of you helped to deal with the heat. Thanks for all your humor, sharing and good times (once again). Thanks for helping me watch over Christain. Can’t wait till we get to do this again….hell….who knows what car I’ll bring next time…..thinkin’ bout renting a Malibu……..with run flats…….

I've got about 1/2 the pics I took from the weekend of the Lightning & Thunder races on the server. So if you want to see those, I can link you to them.

what program or application are you using to create your galleries. i like it. ever since "Gallery" let me down, I have been without a good image hosting solution.

thanks for the info on getting the pictures, much appreciated.

neh, I don't mind. :D I use jalbum w/ a slightly modified chameleon skin.

I stumbled on these on-track pics of the red rx7. I'll assume they are of SPIC.

The following are links to the galleries for the Lightning & Thunder races from Sunday. There are quite a bit of pics of the Roar Racing Rx8s within the Lightning race gallery.

I :banghead: all afternoon Sunday for putting down the camera and missed capturing the 350z spin & recovery at the end of the back stretch. He was going at it w/ the s2000 and they attempted to split the yellow Datsun entering turn 11. The Z lost the back end, drifted across the grass narrowly missing the outer guard rail, cross the track just barely missed s2000 & datsun, and flirted w/ the edge of the gravel trap.

I'm very sad I missed this event, especially now being located in B'ham, AL. I've been itching to get back on the track! It doesn't seem like Barber will have any more events this summer, but are there other tracks hosting events?

Depends on how far you are willing to drive.
2 more events scheduled at Road Atlanta (Aug -Dec) which is probably 3 hours from you.
There is stuff in Savannah and Carolina's (6 hrs?)
And there are always small groups renting out TGPR which is only and hour from you.
I may try to help set up a TGPR day in Oct/Nov if it is avail.

There are some more DE's at Barbers just not with NASA. PBOC in Nov. is one, Chin should be there sometime, and there is probably a few more.

For non-NASA events, this is always a good url to have around.
