(answered, thank you all)

I just bought my RX-8, it's half full of oil, and I don't know what kind. It's getting low, will it cause problems to put a probably different type of oil in the pan? If not, what kind should I use?

PLEASE DON'T TELL ME TO SEARCH OR CHECK MY MANUAL. I've tried, it doesn't work, and in the time it takes you to type your stupid immature comment you could have answered my question.

Thanks,
-Falken

mix and match. The car won't mind.

Oil is compatible, essentially you can mix in pretty much anything...For now put in some 5-20, or 5-30 Castrol GTX...and then you decide what you want to do for oil at your next oil change

Thank you so much! What oil should I use? (I know almost nothing about this)

And where the heck is the dipstick??

Try The Castrol 5-20..it's easier til you figure a bunch of other stuff out...

The dipstick is on the drivers side of the engine...close to the firewall

I'm gonna give these ones to you. You'll notice the recommended oil weight is located on the oil cap itself (GF-3 5W-20). Theres a cover over both of these things so they can be hard to spot at first. As a jet engine mechanic, I'm sure you don't need be shown how to use the dipstick too, right?

How are you guys getting a better read of the dip stick?

My dip stick has the marking and everything, but the oil is barely sticking on to the dip stick to get a good read of where oil is at full or low.:eyetwitch

I've got a little LED flashlight on my keychain that I use to help spot the film.

I think he got that idea from the oil gauge (http://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php?p=2384706&postcount=8).

"Seeing as how he specifically stated he filled the oil I assumed he had. The oil gauge reads a hair above half right now, is that enough??

I put two holes in my dipstick (http://www.rx8club.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=117024&d=1205448871).

That's a nifty Idea. What I do, is shine it at the sun, then use my finger to make sure there is a liberal amount of oil on that part of the stick. Works for me! :icon_tup:

I just bought my RX-8, it's half full of oil, and I don't know what kind. It's getting low, will it cause problems to put a probably different type of oil in the pan? Sometimes people change the kind of oil they use on purpose (they want to switch to a different grade, or to synthetic, etc.); since a routine RX-8 oil change leaves some of the old oil in the system, mixing oil is apparently no big deal.

There ya go! Damn, some people.

Yes, I know how to work a dipstick, I eventually found it myself. I simply left this thread because I had to leave to go help my friend film something (thus we have the ASAP in the title, I didn't want to go anywhere on an unoiled car) and since than I have been just about everywhere in the city.

There is no oil gauge. I'm hoping this is a joke, oil pressure gauge, which i guess could tell you that your really low on oil.

Wow the stupidity I read here at the RX-8 forum. To be honest, I don't know much about car engines at all :) but if you would like a look at my jet engines feel free to check these links.

http://www.putfile.com/pic/5204222?pos=top The entire unit. The turbo spools up compressing air, putting it into a combustion chamber where a flame tube with precisely measured holes slows the air and lets it inside of itself, there it is mixed with fuel, lit, and blasted into the turbine wheel of the turbocharger for 20lbs thrust. I'm working on a larger one right now.

http://www.putfile.com/pic/5204233 I used a small turbocharger as the compressor/turbine.

http://www.putfile.com/pic/5204231 The ignition key is as of now totally miswired, I have to manually turn the distributor.

http://www.putfile.com/pic/5204232?pos=top The center hole is for kerosene, the left hole is for a high energy spark plug.

http://www.putfile.com/pic/5204228?pos=top A look down the tailpipe at the turbine wheel.

http://www.putfile.com/pic/5204226?pos=top The combustion chamber/flame tube's outlet into the turbine wheel.

http://www.putfile.com/pic/5204227?pos=top The turbo that is the heart of my engine.

http://www.putfile.com/pic/5204224?pos=top You can see the air outlet into the combustion chamber here.

i don't think ur qualified to say anything nor working on a jet engine.. when you can't read the manual that says the car takes 5w-20....

inability to read the oil cap that says 5w-20

somehow manage to miss the 2000 threads with 5w-20 in them

mistaken oil pressure dummy gague with oil level gague

or navigate to the appropriate thread...

Stop feeding the troll.

And it's pretty hilarious how you noticed it was half full of oil when you didnt even check the dipstick...did you just drain the oil and measured that? :lol2:

I don't think I ever bought a die cast model of anything, and I have no idea who you are talking about.

As for the rest of you I don't think it's an unfair assumption to interpret a gauge that says "oil-p" and has a picture of a little oil can as the oil level...so yeah, go ahead and hide behind your screens, and go be jackasses to other people while you laugh and touch yourself and feel nice and tough...

This is my exit from this thread, I'm not going to waste my time with 12 year old flamers, so to you all feel free to reply to this thread, whatever helps you sleep at night...
