I bought a used 2006 RX-8 with a little under 10k miles and Brigestone Potenza RE040s. The two rear tires are very worn and one probably won't pass inspection. The fronts are in very good condition so I figure the original owner never rotated his tires and the fronts were replaced relatively recently. Maybe the dealer switched the fronts and rears too.
Anyway, if I replace 2 instead of all 4 tires, do I need to get 2 more RE040s?
I've heard you shouldn't mix tires and just wanted to confirm that this is true.

or the original owner did a lot of burn outs. my tires wore very evenly over 28k miles. but i rotated them several times.

Yes, you should match the tire brand/model on all four corners.
Yep, looks like never rotated.

You may want to cut your losses and get something else for about the same money. The RE040 gets really noisy and nasty after a little wear. Replacing all 4 with something else and selling the B-stones would make sense to me.

Thanks, guys.
Haven't yet decided what tires I wanted to get so I may try and pass inspection to give me a little more time to decide. Love this car, BTW!
