nycgps 03-16-2008, 11:21 AM Another Garbage from Pontiac ...
mysql 03-16-2008, 11:28 AM don't care about the car, but their commercial is bad ass:

Hating on the 400+hp!!! :icon_no2:

Wow... that's actually a good commercial. Pretty stellar for them.
Had a flash back to '83 :uhh:

That was from a G8 GT review... lets see what the revised GXP suspension does to help.
I mean, I don't get this. The 3,850 lb Nissan GTR goes out and admittedly "defies the laws of physics" by whooping up on a 911 turbo on several tracks, and nobody says a damn thng about its curbweight any more.
Technology and design are making up for the handicap of curbweight, and still allowing for comforts and safety. It's not all bad. :banghead:
mysql 03-16-2008, 11:58 AM heh. The GTR was designed to drive well. The G8, not so much.

Okay, so I'll quote from this Edmunds article (I don't care for Edmunds reviews usually, but this info doesn't seem to be result of hair brained conjecture)
http://www.edmunds.com/il/pontiac/g8/
The 2008 G8 packs four doors, rear-wheel drive, a big V8, a six-speed automatic transmission and near 50/50 weight distribution. GM has even gone so far as to equip the G8 with a twin-pivot MacPherson strut front suspension with tons of caster, which is exactly the equation that provides BMW with its legendary steering feel.

Well, to be fair, I've heard more than a few digs against the GTR's portliness on this forum and others. I think it is fair to criticize both the GTR and the G8 for their weight. It obviously is not the best thing for performance. However, I am willing to tip my hat to "heavy" cars that still perform well. I am also willing to cut the G8 some slack because this is a rather large car after all. A practical four door sedan with this kind of performance is impressive.
To hell with Pontiac's reputation. I'm really, really liking this car.
Cheers
tiltmode43 03-16-2008, 01:22 PM I was/am the fan of the gto and I am a fan of this - There's just somehting I love about throwing a high hp v8 into cars like these (easily livable, full size four door sedans); looks like the handling might be decent as well.
mysql 03-16-2008, 02:19 PM There's nothing wrong with a big sedan and a lot of horse power. That's a nice combo. But you shouldn't confuse the G8 with a sports car.
VarneyMazda 03-16-2008, 02:37 PM This is going to be the new type of sports car easily livable that a man or women with a family can have and not give up space
mysql 03-16-2008, 02:38 PM i doubt it. many companies are phasing out v8's in favor of turbo v6 engines. The cost of fuel is rising and they're aware what we're in store for.
VarneyMazda 03-16-2008, 02:45 PM Believe me I know first hand GM is leading the way in fuel efficient cars and trucks, how about a yukon hybrid that gets better gas mileage then the 8
mysql 03-16-2008, 02:48 PM hybrids are a joke. At least for the 2009 model year, we're getting finally getting some real diesel cars from the likes of Honda and Subaru. 60 mpg here I come.
VarneyMazda 03-16-2008, 02:54 PM Ohh sorry your a import fanboi, a hybrid full size suv that gets 20 mpg is great
mysql 03-16-2008, 02:56 PM I'm not an import fan. I buy whatever works. The RX-8 is the first Mazda I've ever considered buying. I've never owned a subbie or honda in my life.
20 mpg is still crap no matter how you cut it.
VarneyMazda 03-16-2008, 03:03 PM For a 9600 pound vehicle its great
mysql 03-16-2008, 03:15 PM For a 9600 pound vehicle its great
what's 9600 lbs?
The 2008 yukon hybrid with 4x4 is 5617 lbs.
VarneyMazda 03-16-2008, 05:25 PM Haha what I get for posting on a blackberry
Clavius 03-16-2008, 09:59 PM Found my future um "Family Sedan" hehehehhehehhehehe....
Lithium Lotus 03-18-2008, 12:59 AM You do know that Jeremy Clarkson likes the car don't you? He reviewed the Vauxhall VXR8 [which is the british version of the G8 GXP and Holden ClubSport R8].

Razz1 03-18-2008, 01:17 AM more like 361 ponies.
Very nice car. Too bad gas will be over 4 bucks a gallon soon.
Lithium Lotus 03-18-2008, 01:30 AM The G8 GT will have 361hp, the G8 GXP will have 402.
sosonic 03-18-2008, 01:36 AM I thought the G6 GXP coupe was not all that bad either.
The problem is the "cool" factor. There is something "missing" with a lot of American cars in the aesthetics department and they have a kind of bulky awkwardness.
It seems Pontiac it is getting a bit closer to the "mark". Not there yet, but maybe one day they will.
The Solstice GXP is about there, but it's got only 2 seats and is impractical for a lot people, despite its nice look. It they could make a bigger version of the solstice GXP as a coupe, keep the looks, and the HP than it would be a major hit.

LostAngel 03-18-2008, 07:00 AM The LS3 is rated for 430hp/424tq...I wonder if the downgrade for the GXP is due to different forward intake/exhaust or marketing reasons (keeping it lower than the corvettes ratings)
Clavius 03-18-2008, 08:01 AM Decent photocrop for the Coup but it looks like crap, especialy the wing like ewwww. American Companies need to get away from the entire "Corporate Grill" branding idea, after that they shall florish I believe in design. Its part of the reason why they havent got rid of the stigma of low quality cars, atleast to me.

I'd say for fuel economy personaly gotta remember CAFE and all that crap.
VarneyMazda 03-18-2008, 08:09 AM GM will never let a production car be faster than a Corvette.
sharkman 03-18-2008, 08:18 AM Pontiacs are the ugliest cars out there! (G6,GTP's, Aztecs) actually hideous, nice HP on the engine, but you wouldnt cough't me driving one of those ugly things unless it was a rental and they had nothing nicer.

Those are all thier old FWD POS AMERICAN Made cars, this is made in AU from Holden, only input they (Pontiac) had was that damn corporate grill. I hope you do realize this. I think my previous comment about the stigma has been made very clear guys what do you think
And Varney your right they wont sadly. Though with both the Z06 and now ZR-1 the benchmark or Invisible Roof if you will should be raised as to whats the fasted a production car can go outside the 'Vette. I believe I seen a article in Motor Trend about a OZ company which already slapped in a LS-7 engine into a Commodore (G8 to us guys DUH!!), thing was all black and looked like pure death on wheels. Aparently it was a direct bolt in, only mods was to the modify the tranny and one or two other things for the drive train to handle the power.
Again if the 8 dies or my hand is forced to get a "family sedan" this is what I'm getting either the GT or the GXP. First mod will be importing the Commodore front fascia though hehe.
