Unhappy New owner- Engine light problem

Hi! I am a new rx8 A/T owner.
I changed a new battery yesterday and everything is ok. No strange light on.
Today, I turned the car on but found CEL on. I tried to remove one of the pole of battery connection and try to reset ECU. The CEL still turned on. Besides, DSC light and traction light also on.

Please help! I am just a new owner, I don't know how to do and feel worry about it!

Ignore NYCGPS. He needs to be bitch slapped.

teonteon,

if your car is under warranty then take it to the dealer. If not, then you should buy a code reader or take your car to Autozone or the like and have the codes read and that will point you in the general direction of the problem. Try and leave teh battery disconnected for 15 minutes and then try it again. If you still get the lights then there is likely a problem of some sort.

hey Tonteon, welcome. Disregard ny, he's the local Scrooge around here.

What year is your car?
Did you do anything else other then change the battery? Why did you change the battery if you're a 'new' owner?

You've got 2 choices here:
1) Go to a local Auto Zone store and see if they can pull the code for you.
2) Head to the dealership and have them take a look at the car.

IF you go to AutoZone, there is a sticky thread on this site that lists all the CEL codes. It might be something minnimal that they can just clear for you.

Welcome to the forum.

Please add location to your profile. Tell us more about your car such as year, mileage, service history etc.
Follow the good advice above.
Once you remove power you need to reset the DSC and TCS by turning steering full right and full left.

can't say I disagree with this. NY: you have had a very short temper as of late.

lol,

To play devils Advocate, you can see the perspective of read before you plead. hehe, especially the sticky's... i'm sure theres some uber magic method on how they stick, but compound aside.

Maybe the forum structure needs to be re-organized. Have a special "New Owners" directory of compiled sticky's. Since there are sticky's in, tech, audio, wheels i think? Until one gets familiar with the forum, having a welcome section with the stickies mirrored there. ... I think i typed sticky's 4 times already, time to go play Halo.

Later!

oh teonteon - your Check Engine Light (CEL) came on for a reason, you should get it pulled instead of doing the "Turn up the Stereo to make problem go away", My mom recently did this costing her a new tire that she drove home flat..... what can i say she's asian

Most Code Readers will let you 'clear' the CEL error, Schucks & Autozone i believe let you borrow their's at no charge. While your at it midust well get the code description .

https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-forum-197/rx8-faq-new-owners-116484/

Ja, read the stickie.

You probably didn't have the battery disconnected long enough and also did not clear the KAM memory.

The DSC and Traction light will be on since you disconnected the battery and the ECU has to reset it self the light will turn off soon. Now the CEL can be anything. Re Check the gas gap and if it is still on after a day or 2 go get it checked out

Geeze...tempers are getting interesting.

We also need to recognize that English is not everyone's first language. As a native New Yorker myself (long emigrated, but the roots are there), nycgps's reply translates to "There is a search function and there are stickies that will answer your questions. Welcome to RX8club."

BTW - on the noobs asking the same questions and the veterans getting annoyed... There's an old joke about a Marine DI who, after 20 years, screamed "Don't you guys ever learn?" at his latest platoon.

DSC and traction lights can be turned off by turning the wheels from lock to lock with the car on.

As for your CEL, go to autozone and have them pull the code, Post the code they pull from your car here, and someone other then NY (who just needs a joint, or a beer, or to get laid, not sure which) will help you further.

i didnt read all those.

1. turn the wheel all the way to the right ... then left ... then it will set one
2. drive about 50 miles and the comp will set and the traction controll light will go off.

its simple. lol

when the battery goes dead the dsc light & cell will illuminate. this is normal.

put the key in the ignition, start the car, and then turn the steering wheel all the way to the right til u can't turn it any more, and then turn it all the way to the left until u can't turn it anymore. then, center the steering wheel back to the normal position and the dsc light will go away.

drive around for a while or let the engine run for about 15 minutes so u don't flood. then, pull over and turn off the engine. then start it back up and the cell will go away- provided u didn't touch anything else. the cell takes 2 starts to clear.

hope this helps. and, no need to panic.
