Is this totally screwed up or what? Have the English lost their minds (a retorical question, to be sure)! Haven't these guys every heard of uninsured motorists insurance? Much easier than detroying property. What a waste of good cars through no fault of their own... the car's that is. Crush the owners back account - not the poor defenseless cars. Talk about anti-green!
manufacture > buy > crush > rinse > repeat x 45,000 cars!

Seize the cars and resell them to help reduce taxes.

Getting kick-backs from the crusher or car dealers is the only way this makes any sense. What they are doing is destroying money not cars. Spend tax money to catch criminals and spend more to smash the car?

Well it says they are doing in for spite because they are anti-car, so it's personal, therefore it makes sense to me.
I guess they want less cars on the road, so that's the way to do it. ;)

This is a bit extreme for just driving without insurance. I've had mine run out on me and I plain forgot to renew it right away. I'd hate to have my car crushed because I made an oversight. What about having it insured but not having proof in the car? This too happens from time to time. I'd personally rather see cars permanently seized from illegals who drive without licenses or insurance. Then again you'd have to crush most of them anyways.

I'm sure there are exceptions to the rules, and likely they are crushing cars from people who perhaps have been driving many years without insurance. I'd say crush the cars, because if you sell them off, you will likely be placing them in the hands of other drivers who will possibly drive without insurance.
We just don't know all the details and facts, but if this is an excessive problem, perhaps crushing the cars, to keep them out of the hands of future non insured drivers is a good solution. It will wake people up to the reality and consequence if they get caught, and perhaps get people to insure their cars.
So they can't afford to buy insurance, and you take their car away and crush it, and now everything is supposed to be all better?

They've been doing this for years. They only crush junkers. They have a really high rate of abandonded cars being left on the roads. Cars they can sell for profit, they sell.

Well, there you have it. All is good now on this post. :)
You figure, the people that don't pay and can't afford insurance, 90% of the time they are driving around old beat up cars that probably should be junked anyway. :)
