View Full Version : What to check, before warranty is over?
reddevilwarrior 01-07-2008, 12:18 PM Before Warrranty is over, what Should I check in my car for?
I checked speakers, and tail lights.
What else "to do" list to check
So I dont regret after my warranty is over.
Thanks.
chetrickerman 01-07-2008, 12:22 PM check every nook and cranny of your engine, transmission, differential, driveshaft, axles, suspension, all of that. you want to be very very thorough. you should spend at least a whole day doing it
Jedi54 01-07-2008, 12:24 PM compression check
reddevilwarrior 01-07-2008, 12:52 PM and... problem is how to... check those things listed...
Raptor75 01-07-2008, 01:02 PM compression check
I second this one, might cost you a hundred bucks but it is well worth the piece of mind.

Live in Pennsylvania... :banghead:
My friend has mazdaspeed protege he has a tool that can compression check.
But He doesn't have experience with rotary.
1. He doesnt know where its at on rx8
2. what are the number supposed to be?
Thanks jedi54
Another one, I have a little over 15k miles on the car.
Driver side seat has little bit of wear/tear, Is this something I can ask under warranty? since its only 15k miles on the car?
dmc27 01-07-2008, 03:13 PM hmm . . . not sure if the compression numbers are listed on the recall letter, but it's worth a check on rosenthal's site - TSBs (http://www.finishlineperformance.com/rx8/bulletins.html). (compression test = vacuum test) I think the numbers were discussed for a while in the "engine replacement poll" thread - here (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=122843)(tho it may be a ton of reading to find @300+ posts)
Doing it yourself would be nice for comparison, but it's worth doing at the dealer either way. Then there's no question about differences between machines - or any other craptastic nonsense the dealer may try to claim makes your readings invalid.
dmc27 01-07-2008, 03:15 PM Can't hurt to ask about the seat, but my gut instinct was to rofl. Maybe if you actually use the dealer service dept, but if not they'll probably tell you you fart too much!
Raptor75 01-07-2008, 04:03 PM The engine recall would not list the compression ratio, it tested vacuum not compression.
As for testing it your self, you will need a special gauge designed to test compression on a rotary. A regular compression gauge will not work.

dmc27 01-07-2008, 04:10 PM ugh. just when I thought I had a grasp of it . . .
I thought the vacuum test was to check compression. meh.
Duke15 01-07-2008, 04:40 PM One more little thing - check to see if either of your visors are cracked at all yet. It would be annoying to replace them this summer.
RojoOcho 01-07-2008, 04:56 PM Just to clarify it's 4yr and 50,000 miles right?

Ah-ha, Thanks Raptor75
Raptor75 01-07-2008, 05:27 PM Nope from what I understand it measured the volume or pressure of the air being sucked into the engine. I don't know why they did this test instead of a compression test. Being cynical I assumed more cars would have failed the compression test and it would have cost Mazda more to fix.

48 months or 50,000 miles, which ever comes first.

48 months? that's 2 year
My car is 04, still under warranty now, only has 15k miles.
Def, more than 48months,
I believe its 4 year.
chetrickerman 01-07-2008, 06:46 PM 48 months is 4 years :rollingla

Back to the topic!
chetrickerman 01-07-2008, 07:25 PM haha, its ok. its a monday
Startl_Respons 01-07-2008, 08:16 PM Don't forget to check coils and water pump and engine starter. Not sure if you already have the upgraded starter, but if you don't, make something up about hard starts in the morning. That should give the mazda technician the green light to change your starter and give you the upgraded battery as well.
The RX8 is well known to come with shitty coils and water pump. I know firsthand and so do a lot of other people on this forum.

I am sure that my car has all the recalls done. Upgraded battery and etc.
How can I check coils, water pump and engine starter is good? thanks
Razz1 01-07-2008, 11:49 PM Read the TSB list.
See if there is anything that may pertain to you.

Anyone else? any more recommendation?
Tomorrow, it's going in for inspection and new speaker installation.
bsteimel 02-20-2008, 09:23 AM Can you guys just give me a once over and let me know if i've summarized the points in this thread and if i'm missing anything
My bumper to bumper warranty will also be running out soon in about 5k miles.
The dealer will check: The fuel pump, water pump, alternator, compression and coils. I'm assumed they can run a electrical diagnostic test on the pumps, alternator, and coils to see if there in proper working order.
I'm going to do a visual inspection myself on the undercarriage, exhaust, serpentine belt, light fixtures, the inside, and do a good once over the he whole car. Maybe i'll do a writeup on DIY: oh crap my warranty is running out.
So far these things have been replaced within in 55k miles. @ 35k The plugs (all 4), the starter, radiator flushed, tranny rebuilt, tranny fluid replaced, diff fluid replaced, and the battery have been changed. the brake fluid will be done soon and the pads are in good shape.
Is there anything I'm missing here, (cat test?) ? Am I going to over the top?
bsteimel 02-21-2008, 02:50 PM bump, should i post a new thread for this? It seemed to keep with the same title as this one.
dmc27 02-21-2008, 03:03 PM Yes, it does seem to go well with the topic. Wish I could help more, but I will say I don't feel like you can go "over the top" when it comes to getting a full comprehensive check up before the warranty runs out.
