View Full Version : Time to change forum picture?
my10ae 12-09-2002, 10:19 PM Hi all:
I think with the latest RX-8 pics that are out, we could update the forum's picture? What does everyone else think? Time to change the yellow with a red picture?

Jerome81 12-10-2002, 02:48 AM I'm down with that. Maybe something a little more animated? Cool.

i thought that is what we were doing;)
Toadman 12-10-2002, 08:51 PM Effort #1
Try and keep it the same height and width as the original logo to start out. (300 X 163 pixels)
My apologies to B00STD7 for poaching on his badging logo. ;)
my10ae 12-10-2002, 09:27 PM Toadman:
I like that pic you came up with. Anyone else?

danger 12-10-2002, 09:32 PM i liked that picture of the red 8, but make it black and you've got my vote!

You mean like this:
Toadman 12-10-2002, 09:59 PM There ya go, very sweet! If we stay with any small logo I'm sure our resident "photo-choppers" can come up with the other colors. Now how about background? Leave it white or shade it with each logo? The black one would look good with a gun-metal grey background and alternating silver/grey forum posts. Lets keep it simple for the 56k dial-ups, and rotate logos monthly maybe(?).
Someone post a silver one before Zoom44 goes postal on us. :D LOL!
Moving to Forum Suggestions. ;)
Good Duck 12-11-2002, 12:22 AM Here's a silver.
Good Duck 12-11-2002, 12:23 AM Orange you glad?!?
Sputnik 12-11-2002, 10:14 AM I'd still stay with the red version. The other colors look good on the car, but the black and silver make the icon look monochrome, and even the orange looks a little thin compared to the red. It's going to be hard to improve upon the color balance of that red icon w/o using an annoying color that will wear on people very quickly.
Besides, for now, I think that having the same color car that everyone is seeing in this first round of magazine articles will be more recognizable to new members and guests.

Grimace 12-11-2002, 10:34 AM I humbly suggest this as the new logo for this forum.
Sincerely,
Me.

-Although the font is pretty cool, it is normally a good idea to make the font on such icons easy to read. It's hard to read as it is, and it's going to be even smaller when it is put into place.
-I'd avoid using a black, or other dark car. Even though we might like that color, you really lose detail in a logo like this with that color, and it looks more like a silhouette than a picture.
-And I'd make the surrounding ring a more "muted" color, and the car the "strong" color (like it is now), so that the car is "highlighted".

Good Duck 12-12-2002, 02:09 AM Here's an "cleaner" red.

wakeech 12-12-2002, 03:23 AM GD, you hit the NAIL ON THE HEAD MAN!!! sweet ass...
black is the only colour of choice for the distinguished (and badass) carguy, such as you, myself, and a few others, but this red logo really pops off the white (being contrasting and everything...) background of the page.
kudos, m'boy. :D
boowana 12-12-2002, 11:06 AM Go with the red, IMHO.
bwayout 12-12-2002, 04:20 PM But does anyone else think we should still show the 4 doors open?
http://www.rx8forum.com/attachment.php?postid=16236
...If so, does anyone know of a better image showing off the 4 doors in more of a dynamic angle? Otherwise, I really do like the angle that Good Duck picked.

As much as I like a 4 door shot, that view comes off looking like an economy people hauler IMHO.
I'd prefer to visulize that car as a sports car, that just happens to haul 4 adults.
Mazda man 12-12-2002, 04:28 PM How about a logo that when you mouse over it the doors open? That would be quite cool. I will post my crap-ass attempt later.

I'm with you on that :D but the 4 door aspect is one of the features that does make it the RX-8 (not the rx-7) ;)

isn't there a gif on one of mazda's web sites that lets you spin the car around and the doors open and close while you do so?
maybe we could "borrow" that? can you do an interactive logo like that? i dont really know anything about website building:o

I'll leave that to Mazda man I'm not a graphic web guru by any streatch of the imagination. Plus I really never learned how to get any java script roll-over effect to link and work right (but i could make a nice animated gif).

That is a FLASH object. I don't know anything about grabbing anything out of a Flash movie.
Mazda man 12-14-2002, 04:00 PM I could possibly make a gif if I could find two pictures at the same angle, one with the doors closed and the other open. Chances of that are slim but ill keep looking:D
randyc 12-15-2002, 01:54 AM Keeping the image small is a very good thing if you look at your server loads. At least on my forums. Adding java, mouse-overs, etc will add to the b/w.
Movement is more distracting.

HiWin 12-17-2002, 06:09 PM Actually, I kind of like the existing logo. May I suggest to keep the logo but to have a "picture of the month" type header? I know I'm a newbie on this forum but on the Nissan Frontier forum, we had a picture of a new truck every month. Each member can submit a picture and the admin or moderator pick the best one and post it on the header. That way we'll have a new picture each month. Just a suggestion...
Toadman 12-17-2002, 08:22 PM Only problem with that is, the image is not the production car. ;)

But the items that changed in the production version are not visible in the current Avatar.
So what would be wrong if we change the avatar regularly and even included the RX-Evolv, RX-8 concept, and yellow pre-production versions. They are part of the RX-8 legacy. Additionally there will be updated production versions as the years go by. The sheet metal will change over and over. (Of course this assumes the strong viability of the product.)
What do the RX-7 forums use in their avatar, only the FD?
bwayout 12-17-2002, 08:45 PM I like Puppy1's idea to showcase all of evolutionary versions of the RX-8 ... if time permits me - I'll try my hand ... ;)
cueball 12-18-2002, 04:02 PM Rx7 club has a pic of the 8 and some other random pics.

Looks don't matter when we have content and intelligent posters. Besides, my forums look better than all of them and I don't get that many posters :P
