View Full Version : Dudes from SG - CNG?
rhudayar 12-26-2007, 09:24 PM Hey guys,
Read with interests from todays Straits Times about car converting to CNG.
A guy installs CNG in his new Porche Cayman gets a rebate of 40% of his registration fees (about S$30K). Another driver claims that he pays about S$227 in fuel charges for 1 month for more than 2000km of milege.
Sounds tempting, especially in times of rising fuel costs.
Any bros here tried this on their 8 yet?
thks
Silver_Z 12-26-2007, 09:51 PM Then no space for Sound System?
simply8 12-26-2007, 10:07 PM dare not mess with the sensitive 8 Rotary Engine....any hero around? :shocking:
Haha.. I read the news and wanted to ask you guys the same question.. Can our rotaries run on CNG?? Anyone knows or is going to try?
XMatrix 12-26-2007, 10:32 PM I saw that ad once about 1 year ago. Made appt to go down to consult. The installer took a look and said that the tank wont fit anywhere, not even inside the boot.
I saw the tank and it's massive!
Can strap to the roof of the car?

Now that is something you do not see on the road everyday.
there are many good reads about CNG in www.mycarforum.com.
Nothing about installing CNG on the 8 though.
littletonysg 12-27-2007, 07:15 AM maybe can put at the back, bcome a third exhaust for our car...:wiggle: then can fly liao...kekeke:shocking:

Yeah man! One of my colleagues got it installed in the Toyota Wish he bought and now has limited bootspace...he's kinda regretting it. He can't drive off with his new car yet though, while all the paperwork was completed eariler this month -- LTA is apparently re-examining its guidelines on CNG.
Anyways, IMHO, a gas-powered porsche isn't quite the same...
And I wonder what would happen if a car with a CNG tank is seriously rear-ended in the event of an accident...all that compressed gas! Boom!
Stephy88 12-27-2007, 04:04 PM hey, the papers show a cayman with a CNG... so ppl will go for it...
if it show a QQ.. i wonder wat's the impact...
no harm trying... for those who are keen... better than those magnets, capsule, pads that you fix in under your bonnet...
maybe i go fix... then able to give golden review...
to fix, i need money, any sponsors?
have to check if it's void warranty...
hmm if it doesn'.t.. maybe my next project... project CNG 8

if its on a QQ, i guess the owner no need lower ride already. the weight of the tank already lowered it. LOL!
By the way guys........ask about CNG for the 8 during the last car expo. Rotaries will not work with CNG unfortunately... :icon_no2:

The rotary apparently works well with gaseous fuels (see Mazda's long-time work with Hydrogen-burning Rotaries); I, likewise, think a CNG-powered RX would be a really compelling car, especially if you can plumb one of the PHILL Home Refueling Appliances that Honda sells to CNG Civic owners.
Rumboo 02-23-2008, 03:50 PM I think I prefer the Mr FusionŽ Home Fusion Reactor that powers the flux capacitor on my DeLorean, thankyouverymuch..
psionix 02-23-2008, 08:14 PM To make the rotary more appealing:
Use Hydrogen fuel cell: Already done with lower power output
Use Gaseous fuel: CNG doesnt work. How I wish that wasnt true.
Use Diesel: Best alternative. Have to do alot of heavy re-design of the engine to achieve the right compression. But I think this is the best way to go. Look at the Audi R8 TDI V12. Torque at 1000 Nm!!!
Swerve76 02-24-2008, 04:46 AM Never did see this thread before and I'm glad it was brought up again.
As I sit here now, it just all seems so trivial now bout the numerous things said about me but I am having a good laugh about the whole issue now
Not going to harp on it or gloat over it but lets hope this drama shit gets cut out once and for all on the new forums.
Anyways heres to new beginnings in 2008!
Merv (aka Le Swerve)
Oh and on the topic of CNG? Nah I'm a petrolhead thru and thru ;)
