View Full Version : Any Lotus Exige owners here? A.Mair 12-15-2007, 04:35 AM My next car is going to be a lotus exige s and i would like to know if there are any members here that have one and what they theought of it....any warnings? and advice etc Spinning Sushi 12-15-2007, 04:37 AM Wow, I wish I had the dough to cough up an Exige... I'm waiting for another couple more years so that I can find a cheap used Elise to buy. R Magic 12-15-2007, 04:53 AM Anthony, I hope you know a new Lotus Exige will run you somewhere about $70,000. A.Mair 12-15-2007, 04:56 AM i dont have the money yet lol but i am confident that in about 3 years or maybe 2 i would liketo have saved up a nice deposit to pay for it and have about the same car payment i have now, as well as trading in the RX8. I always wanted an elise, but then after seeing about the Exige S....and seeing the pics i had to get that next.... http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k21/DonJuanMair/Lotus-Exige.jpg R Magic 12-15-2007, 05:10 AM Nooo, can't trade your 8! Especially for a Lotus! J/K :D: I just think they are overpriced for being a 1.8L or whatever they are.. But, I think a wide body Lotus looks a lot better and more aggressive! http://static.blogo.it/autoblog/lotus_exige_widebody_kobayashi.jpg diabolical1 12-15-2007, 02:51 PM yeah, i've been looking really hard at them in the last 3 months or so. i never really considered the Elise/Exige because i've always been a diehard Espirit guy, but then i got the chance to take a closer look at them. i even saw one run at a track ... all i can say is ... WOW! i'd buy one in a heartbeat. doesn't have to be an Exige though, i'd be good with an Elise. A.Mair 12-15-2007, 03:12 PM do you think your going to get one? i like the style of the exige better than the elise, i was thinking of a color but then i saw the red with the black wheels and was loving it ivory8 12-15-2007, 03:51 PM anthony, exiges are awesome! my friends dad has one as his play car (their loaded). The main difference between the 2 cars is that the exige has a more daily driver type interior, side vent cover, large wing, and upgraded wheels (i think i heard somewhere that the exige S may have a turbo also??? not sure tho) they are amazing cars, and if you can get one that would be AWESOME i would love to have 1 when i get older. truly amazing cars. A.Mair 12-15-2007, 04:22 PM we could have a photo shoot with our cars, yours with the red and black and mine too :) ivory8 12-15-2007, 04:25 PM we would match! :) IcarusX8 12-15-2007, 04:46 PM personally i always found lotus to be extremely ugly. if i were spending that much money, id get the gt-r. thats my opinion, but good luck to you. i still hope for some pics in 2-3 years :-) A.Mair 12-15-2007, 05:17 PM gt-r? w0rm 12-15-2007, 05:27 PM gt-r? :banghead: eviltwinkie 12-15-2007, 05:58 PM anthony, exiges are awesome! my friends dad has one as his play car (their loaded). The exige "S" has a supercharger on it for a small bump in hp... the pics posted earlier... http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k21/DonJuanMair/Lotus-Exige.jpg is NOT a production exige...it was special built for a wealthy customer in asia to participate in a race series...it did not have the standard powerplant...or just about anything else in it...it LOOKS like an exige...but for all intents and purposes it should not be considered one as its a purpose built race car... A.Mair 12-15-2007, 06:51 PM But you can get that body kit now. Someone made a replica of it. As for the gtr well there are so many gtr's i'm not gonna know which one your talking about. Nissan? 8 Maniac 12-16-2007, 12:58 AM the new GT-R is most likely what he was referring to. As much as I love the looks and performance of lotus... I'd have to choose the GT-R as well. A.Mair 12-16-2007, 01:18 AM but theyre totally different cars dont you think? R Magic 12-16-2007, 01:26 AM I think, you'll change your mind about the lotus over the years, especially with all the new hot cars coming out. restiller 12-16-2007, 01:37 AM but theyre totally different cars dont you think? definitely agree. i've been looking at used elises online recently too. a friend and i were having a car discussion; he wanted a performance car with all the anemities. I told him i wanted a pure sportscar with no electronic nannies. 8 Maniac 12-16-2007, 01:52 AM but theyre totally different cars dont you think? that they are. it really comes down to taste I guess. I really do love the lotus cars, especially the styling of the exige. But something about the GT-R grabs me. A.Mair 12-16-2007, 02:26 AM Dont get me wrong the gtr looks really nice. But for me its all about the drive not just the straight line. Everyone who i have spoke to who has drove the exige says its the most fun they've had driving a car j_tso 12-16-2007, 02:51 AM Never get a Lotus with a roof, loss of dignity during egress & ingress is imminent. Brilliant! laythor 12-16-2007, 03:14 AM there was one parked in UC the other day. I thought it looked way too over styleized.. but to each his own. nt5k 12-16-2007, 10:40 AM I just can't see someone having one as an only car. You might as well get a motorcyle. I test drove one and I think I would be depressed unless I could get it to the track every weekend. A.Mair 12-16-2007, 02:06 PM well ill have my wifes car too for long drives etc eviltwinkie 12-16-2007, 03:32 PM I just can't see someone having one as an only car. You might as well get a motorcyle. I test drove one and I think I would be depressed unless I could get it to the track every weekend. I only ask for the discomfort of that situation...I guess I just get my rocks off with a different stroke tho... DOMINION 12-16-2007, 03:54 PM Boo! The Lotus has the "Silly Car" Engine under that Hood. Dont know about the Exige. My friend was going to get one, but he would have been paying $800. a month for it lol he made good money but just did not have the credit for the financing. Odd but to me he just seamed like he was living the "american dream" more money = more dept. Sad. A.Mair 12-16-2007, 04:42 PM but if your in the situation to afford one why not get one....ill have a nice deposit when i get it and ill sell my 8. The exige 240s is 250hp and it weights half the weight of the 8. What do you mean silly engine dude? thecow135 12-16-2007, 05:46 PM toyota engine TopGear8 12-16-2007, 07:56 PM That red one does look sweet, but get a white one with black wheels. anthony, exiges are awesome! my friends dad has one as his play car (their loaded). I think they have a supercharger, not a turbo. refugeefrompistons 12-16-2007, 08:31 PM Toyota engine + supercharger. The Toyota engine is regularly criticized against since a honda engine would been better. The supercharging is personal opinion, it does help low end. eviltwinkie 12-16-2007, 08:36 PM but if your in the situation to afford one why not get one....ill have a nice deposit when i get it and ill sell my 8. The exige 240s is 250hp and it weights half the weight of the 8. What do you mean silly engine dude? If your a driver...you will either love it or hate it...as a daily driver... Get it on a track...and...OMFGWTFBBQCHKN!!! Heh...but yeah its a stupidcharged toyota engine...lotus knows how to build cars tho...so no worries... A.Mair 12-16-2007, 09:04 PM but its still an english car :) eviltwinkie 12-16-2007, 09:08 PM but its still an english car :) uhhh...its a lotus... it could be made in antartica for all I care...its the engineering not the location... diabolical1 12-16-2007, 09:10 PM do you think your going to get one? :) no. at least, not any time soon. i've got a lot of other issues i need to work on right now. however, if the price and circumstance was right, then i guess i couldn't resist. i think they are one of the truly new cars out there with an "old sports car" soul. eviltwinkie 12-16-2007, 09:19 PM :) no. at least, not any time soon. i've got a lot of other issues i need to work on right now. however, if the price and circumstance was right, then i guess i couldn't resist. i think they are one of the truly new cars out there with an "old sports car" soul. It's spartan...pure...the distilled raw essence of motorsport... It was a purpose built car which truly exemplifies the lotus spirit.... chancejat 12-16-2007, 09:29 PM thats gonna be my next car.........red of course........i love debt restiller 12-16-2007, 09:52 PM Ahem. The engine was created/designed by Yamaha for Toyota. Damn, I miss my MR2. eviltwinkie 12-16-2007, 09:53 PM Ahem. The engine was created/designed by Yamaha for Toyota. Damn, I miss my MR2. Heh...lots of engines are creating by other people and then rebranded... And while you are correct...most people would still be all like..."pfftt its a toyo yo!!" Cody Red 12-16-2007, 09:57 PM there's a 17 year old that auto-xes his where i auto-x. is it bad that i beat his times? yes, because an elise should be getting TTOD everytime! i feel bad for that car because it hasn't been put to its real test. A.Mair 12-16-2007, 10:36 PM thats gonna be my next car.........red of course........i love debt lol so true... im already planning how to get this car, for all you lotus fans out there watch this video and sit in awe..... i love this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSZObA5vOd4 ShAdOwFoX 12-16-2007, 10:49 PM hmmm imagine an exige with a renesis engine :D: chancejat 12-17-2007, 12:31 AM that would be fun as hell to drive reaper1 12-17-2007, 09:20 AM Anthony, I hope you know a new Lotus Exige will run you somewhere about $70,000. For that much I'm coming home with a..... Viper ...... fdtt19 12-17-2007, 10:40 AM exige s's run high 50's, low 60's not sure where the 70k came from eviltwinkie 12-17-2007, 10:41 AM For that much I'm coming home with a..... Viper ...... But take your viper to a track...and both of you are going into teh corner... reaper1 12-17-2007, 10:57 AM Last time I was at the auto cross , there was a Viper there and I though it handle pretty well . Maybe if I was going to spend my life racing I would go with the Lotus but I 'm not ...I just think the Viper is an all around better car than the Lotus ... My 2 cents , now let me just mention Its my favorite car ...... diabolical1 12-17-2007, 11:16 AM Damn, I miss my MR2. me, too. :( eviltwinkie 12-17-2007, 11:19 AM Last time I was at the auto cross , there was a Viper there and I though it handle pretty well . Maybe if I was going to spend my life racing I would go with the Lotus but I 'm not ...I just think the Viper is an all around better car than the Lotus ... My 2 cents , now let me just mention Its my favorite car ...... The only problem I have with it...you have you use your right foot on the straights to make up for the lack of ability on the rest of the track... It's still one hell of a car tho... |
