Flip up headlights for the 8. ( rx7/s13 alike )

Anyone ever tryed this on their 8 ?

I know its odd but i looooveee the flip up headlights on the older cars from 80's and 90's.

Let me know if this is even possible for a reasonable cost( like 1500 at most ).

someone said they put an rx7 bumper on an 8 but we waited for like 2 months and figured that he was just trying to be cool or whatever.

sad to see that 1500 wouldn't be enough.

As for the rx7 bumper, i dont know exactly how that would go. Are the widths of both cars that much alike ?

that idea would most likely be those fugly chopped up cars you see at HIN. ftl!
its like...i have a rx-8, but i think the slight difference in having a S2000 headlights plus some bondo weight makes my car look cooler! and i'm sure the performance increases...

what are these guys thinking?

i mean, its ok to display craftsmanship in body work. but most of these cars belong to owners who just has too much money in their hands and too bored to play frankenstein on body part...

anythings possible if you pay someone enough to make ur car look a certain way.

looks= thumbs up
functionality= thumbs down

rant over.

Probably cheaper to get an S13 as a beater to satisfy your pop-up fix. I've got one, even has a little switch so I can give it the sleepy, half up look (previous owner installed, not me).

And for any of you who may have remembered that my S13 was stolen last Christmas, it was just found a couple of weeks ago in almost the same shape it was in when stolen (just the cheap stereo was missing). It had been sitting in some apt complex parking lot for 11 months and the only reason it got called in is a cop rolling by noticed it had expired tags...

And when one of them doesn't work you car will be winking at everyone you drive by.

HAHA, my old prelude did that! If I switched the lights on/off quick the left ones motor wasn't fast enough so it would stay up and the right would go up/down and seem to wink.

As far as the pop up lights on an 8, it just shouldn't be done. Probably couldn't be done for 1500 either.

As far as RX-7 front ends, never seen one on an 8, but I have seen RX8 fronts on FDs

Bah i think it would look sick. Weird sense of style i guess

Anywho, i was hoping that there may be some one who had done this but i guess not, so not much help here. If i ever do it, it'll be a year or so after i complete my suspension and i can just add fun unique things to the car. This will be on top of the list <33

As for s13 beater, i have thought about it and its still in my head. Maybe even an FC if i can find one in good condition.

Pop up lights look pretty but fail often. Why do you think Chevy ditched the pop ups and went with lenses instead for the Corvette?

Computer modeling of and advancements in Aerodynamics play a large role in that. Minimizing the cross section on the front of the car does wonders for high speed performance.

yeah, it's not good for aerodynamics.

also, I don't think $1500 even buys you a pair of OEM headlights.

I like the "stealth" look of pop-ups but the functionally and aerodynamics efficiencies suck. Why do you think a lot of FD owners switch the conventional headlights? It seems retrogressive to me.

Not to mention the cost involved would be ridiculous.

flip up is eliminated from mazda design due to the aero dynamic.

And pedestrian safety regulations in pretty much every country that makes them illegal (for a manufacturer to put them on a new vehicle, that is). You won't ever see a pop up headlight on a new car again for that reason, of course there could be other ways to hide them without having them pop up.

Im not sure if anyone has ever put any thought into making pop up headlights for the RX8 and I love the idea so I found a RX8 3d model and designed a pop up headlight on it, one up one down.
