View Full Version : Anyone with a Turboed RX8 Stingray 12-03-2007, 01:29 AM in okc or around stillwater? I would like to get some info about it before I turbo mine...maybe get a ride and see if i think the money is worth it w0rm 12-03-2007, 10:05 PM soon... Stingray 12-03-2007, 10:21 PM whats your setup going to be? are you installing it yourself? who is doing your tuning? sandnsun7 12-03-2007, 11:12 PM i am seriously thinking about Atkins rotary new super charger, or maybe Petitt's II version. Kinda hard to turn loose of that 7G's. w0rm 12-03-2007, 11:47 PM if Esmeril ever shows a complete dyno I'll probably be hooked. I had considered a supercharger for a while but I've been pretty set on turbo now for some time. When I realized it was torque I was after that pretty much ruled the SCs out. I'll be doing the install myself, tuning I'm not sure on yet. I know a few locals that could probably help me out and I've looked up the local dynos.. but might end up on a road trip if I can't get it tuned somewhat properly myself. I'll be starting with a conservative tune. I'm also really waiting on cobb to see what they come out with. Stingray 12-04-2007, 01:50 AM thats what my issue would be, tuning...if you find someone local to tune, i would seriously think about turboing my 8. What kit are you going to use? Greddy? RXH8TED 12-04-2007, 04:37 PM all i have to say is the greddy kits suck....=) legendkurado 12-05-2007, 11:53 AM all i have to say is the greddy kits suck....=) What facts do you have to back that statement up? RXH8TED 12-05-2007, 05:53 PM well the *=)* shoulda been a hint to the sarcasm...but if it was serious, it would hearsay from lots of others who say they are junk. Thats they don't rev out enough boost, to small of turbos, badly designed kits that mess up their cars. And also bad experience with greddy kits on rx7s. w0rm 12-05-2007, 06:35 PM The only real problem with the greddys post-fixes is supposedly the turbo that can't keep up. apparently a turbo upgrade really fixes that kit up fine. I'm planning on going with esmeril racing's kit probably. chetrickerman 12-05-2007, 06:44 PM well if you want 300 hp now, either go with mazsport, or esmeril. both IMO are the best out there for the 8 a + for mazsport, cause their type 2 kit has a air to water intercooler, which allows a LOT shorter piping for instantaneous turbo response legendkurado 12-06-2007, 10:46 AM No doubt the mazsport, and esmeril kit will give you more power. However, I find it irritating to say a turbo kit sucks rather than stating facts. From my own experience, I believe the Greddy Turbo Kit is great for what it is. It's a small turbo, but it characterizes the kit at it's own advantage and disadvantages. As far as the sarcasm, I see it now. I've been shielded from humor these past few days due to finals -_- Forgive me on that chetrickerman 12-06-2007, 11:43 AM right, every kit has postives and negatives as scott from mazsport told me. the greddy has almost NO lag, but above 7k rpms, it cant supply enough air to the engine. but a couple fixes there, and you have a GREAT turbo kit. A bad thing about the Mazsport turbo kits, is that they are expensive, but hear this. there is 700 dollars worth of material in the exhaust manifold ALONE!!! They use the best parts that are out there, and you needn't buy anything else. A bad thing about the esmeril turbo kit, is that it is also expensive, BUT it can supply HUGE WHP!! RXH8TED 12-06-2007, 01:51 PM No doubt the mazsport, and esmeril kit will give you more power. However, I find it irritating to say a turbo kit sucks rather than stating facts. I've been shielded from humor these past few days due to finals -_- Forgive me on that uhhhh finals :( legendkurado 12-06-2007, 05:04 PM Tell me about it -_- Stingray 12-06-2007, 06:34 PM finals are driving me crazy ahahaha anyways...anyone have a ported 8 around here? legendkurado 12-07-2007, 09:52 AM It's you and me both. I've heard of some porting done to the RX8, but I have never heard of any advantages or affects of doing so. eviltwinkie 12-07-2007, 10:22 AM It's you and me both. I've heard of some porting done to the RX8, but I have never heard of any advantages or affects of doing so. RG in your neck of the woods did CRH's port job. He was exploring the limits of what could and could not be done. The results were nice, and the initial anecdotal evidence suggests that things have improved...however so far there has been no dynos or hard data to say for certain as of yet... CRH was breaking-in the engine and may be doing a dyno very soon... legendkurado 12-07-2007, 02:28 PM Yea, I remember talking to RG about that, but I believe he was finished with the porting at the time. The way I heard things, it sounded like the Renesis had a lot more potential than most people let on. Definitely a dyno of before and after would be a great determination of advantages to porting the Renesis. Stingray 12-07-2007, 04:07 PM I would like to know more info about porting and stuff on the 8...would rather do that than going FI w0rm 12-07-2007, 04:39 PM I think in the absence of FI everything else will provide minimal gains, including porting. eviltwinkie 12-07-2007, 05:06 PM I think in the absence of FI everything else will provide minimal gains, including porting. Agreed...so far from my opinion...any gains appear to be smoothness and possibly reliability...CRH reported that it felt better/faster on the buttdyno...but thats about as far as I would speculate until a dyno is produced... Stingray 12-08-2007, 04:41 AM i don't know a whole lot about rotaries but i have heard porting does work...I would like to see a chart... Still don't know what i'm going to; if anything at all considering 5K is a lot to spend legendkurado 12-08-2007, 12:27 PM Porting isn't cheap either. It's also permanent, where as you can always unbolt a turbo set up. eviltwinkie 12-08-2007, 02:25 PM i don't know a whole lot about rotaries but i have heard porting does work...I would like to see a chart... Still don't know what i'm going to; if anything at all considering 5K is a lot to spend It's NOT the same thing in this case. The fundamental principle is the same, however its not as easy in a rotary. RG for example hit water on the exhaust ports. Also a port job covers the oil passages and other flow areas. So far RG has been the only person to ever do it that I know of and CRH is the only member to currently be running the housing. Your best bet for decent power is FI...and contrary to popular belief, its reliable and proven. The renny does not puke out its seals as easily. Stingray 12-08-2007, 03:22 PM the only kit I know of is teh Greddy...what other kits are there? power goal is around 275whp the biggest concern is still tuning...I have no idea who or where could do it legendkurado 12-08-2007, 04:40 PM With good tuning, 275 rwhp wouldn't be hard to achieve from the Greddy Turbo. There are many other turbo kits that make higher power output, but are more expensive than the Greddy Kit. Look it up in Major HP Gains Section under the Aftermarket Performance page. You will find all the useful info that you seek. mysql101 12-08-2007, 05:29 PM http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=132628 Stingray 12-09-2007, 01:35 PM alright thanks...ya i really don't want to spend 6-9K on a turbo kit.... do you know if the greddy kit comes with an emu mysql101 12-09-2007, 01:38 PM yeah. the kit is 3.5k and comes with everything you need to get going. you'd want to consider getting a boost controller and bov though. legendkurado 12-10-2007, 02:34 PM i say bov as a must |
