View Full Version : 300HP Hyundai RWD Coupe
sosonic 12-02-2007, 06:27 AM 300 HP Hyundai RWD Coupe.
Appears to be coming out in 2009. If they bring that out, nobody will laugh at a Hyundai pulling up.
Oh, if they throw the hot chick in with it, I'm sold.

Spinning Sushi 12-02-2007, 06:33 AM I wonder how heavy it'll be?
Gauge 12-02-2007, 06:44 AM This car is featured in Car And Driver this month(along with the Mazda Taiki), which I just happen to have right here in front of me. Its suppose to weigh around 3500lbs .6spd manual with a 6spd auto available also. 0-60 under 6secs.. $25k . Also brembo brakes(optional) . Car looks pretty good.
delhi 12-02-2007, 11:48 AM whats with the camera? Is she supposed to be a Korean car racer that happens to take pictures?
2tone 12-02-2007, 12:04 PM hyundai is on the up and up. that car looks pretty sick.
stickmantijuana 12-02-2007, 12:52 PM holyd crap! go hyundai.
my parents were going to get me a hyundai when i was in hs and i remember feeling restless that night thinking they're ACTUALLY going to get me a damn hyundai... ended up with a used crx hatch which i much preferred.
but this doesn't look bad at all!!
is it aluminum block? wonder what sort of power it'll put out once you turn up the boost.
stickmantijuana 12-02-2007, 12:53 PM from the side, it has a slight resemblance to the f430 toward the rear.. maybe i'm dreaming.
chetrickerman 12-02-2007, 01:08 PM eh, it looks tacky, i wonder how it would handle
leakslikasieve 12-02-2007, 01:47 PM the car will not have all the carbon fiber for production. no hood, roof, fake brake ducts. they say it in the video's this is the car how they think tuners will work on it and make it look. the future coupe will have the same design, including flares, and all light and body design. 25g to start for 300 hp. with brembo and lsd it will prolly reach 28g. and i will get one and happily own a car with a 10y 100k warranty.
oh and by the way, the 4cyl turbo that will have slightly over 200 hp is in fact a detuned 4b11, hyundai/mitsu world engine( aka evo x). it just isnt built with all the proper tuning and hardcore parts. it will prolly come out with 220-230 hp as the future lancer ralliart is coming with, its just a low boost 4b11t. they are hoping to get into the drifting market and become the new 240sx. what will be nice is seeing how much boost it can actually hold without upgrading internals. it may turn out to be like the mk4 gti, where the 1.8t modded much easier and faster then the 2.8 vr6, and costed less to begin with. i still like the sound of a v6 better though.
NgoRX8 12-02-2007, 01:50 PM i saw the genesis coupe at the la autoshow. the back looks awfully similar to the G35 coupe rear.

Mikeluvs8 12-03-2007, 12:31 AM hyundie sucks!!!! i cant even spell it!!!! they always copy other cars.
WAR CRUNK 12-03-2007, 01:15 AM still its a hyundi......
faboo 12-03-2007, 01:44 AM hyundie sucks!!!! i cant even spell it!!!! they always copy other cars.
...at a better price...and warranty:lol2:
faboo 12-03-2007, 01:51 AM wow...took it up a notch...
Apostle 12-03-2007, 08:55 AM cant see the inside, but if its a 4seater, think i may have to trade the 8 in. yeah it's Korean, and most of their crap sucks, but this doesnt look too bad. and 300hp stock...
Spinning Sushi 12-03-2007, 09:01 AM ^ KDM baby!
MmSadda 12-03-2007, 10:10 AM oh and by the way, the 4cyl turbo that will have slightly over 200 hp is in fact a detuned 4b11, hyundai/mitsu world engine( aka evo x). it just isnt built with all the proper tuning and hardcore parts. it will prolly come out with 220-230 hp as the future lancer ralliart is coming with, its just a low boost 4b11t. they are hoping to get into the drifting market and become the new 240sx. what will be nice is seeing how much boost it can actually hold without upgrading internals. it may turn out to be like the mk4 gti, where the 1.8t modded much easier and faster then the 2.8 vr6, and costed less to begin with. i still like the sound of a v6 better though.
Ya know, I was actually wondering about the [1.8t/VR6] analogy myself. Basic tuning of the v6 will of course be more expensive than basic tuning for the turbo 4. Mechanical tuning is more expensive than turbo tuning, it's simple fact. To make the V6 usable for higher power than the I4 could be tuned to, one would have to re-create it as a lower-compression engine. :banghead:
The car itself sounds cool, but if I'm gonna drive something weighing in at 3500 pounds, I'll buy a 1JZ-swapped Mark 3.5 Supra. Similar weight and distribution, but a helluva lot cooler, and much easier to tune. :)

yeah, i think i might get this car, but i will absolutely give it a year or 1.5 yrs before i decide on the engine. im sure that ripp motorsports will make a sc for the v6 model. but i really want to see how the 4 response to tuning. the nice thing about the v6 is its finally a longitudal mounted engine. yay rwd.
DailyDriver2k5 12-03-2007, 12:49 PM Looks nice, but i would wait before i would buy. So many new rides coming out by 2009/2010. If the new Tib will have 300HP and weigh right around 3500lbs, we can safely assume it will put out numbers that of a 350Z. Which isn't bad...but its not great either.
jones75254 12-03-2007, 01:40 PM Thats a dam good looking car. I am all for additional RWD sport coupes, and i like the looks of this one. I sure hope the price isnt TOO low, or the streets will be flooded w/ these things by 2011. Will be interesting to see how these cars progress in mainstream as well as after market support. My guess is they will be huge in the tuner realm.
bigireland 12-03-2007, 01:53 PM i have to say that i like it.. nothing will take the place of my 8, but it's good to see hyundai joining the rwd sports coupe fight.. reason #48 mazda needs to green light the kabura
shakRpahX8 12-03-2007, 03:08 PM Hyundai's SRT???
RXei8ht 12-03-2007, 03:58 PM Hyundai's been stepping it up lately, especially after their new Sonata came out. On their ads the companies they been going after are BMW and Lexus, which is pretty ambitious as they're still considered more, "Toyota and Honda" in class.
Rotary Rasp 12-03-2007, 03:59 PM I think they still have a lot of work to do considering the car is hollow.

tiggerlee 12-03-2007, 09:09 PM 300 HP Hyundai RWD Coupe.
If they bring that out, nobody will laugh at a Hyundai pulling up.
Wanna bet? ;)
thecow135 12-03-2007, 10:12 PM its the same as why people laugh at civics
rollerbldes 12-03-2007, 11:27 PM I think they still have a lot of work to do considering the car is hollow.
LOLOL:lol:
but seriously. It is a hyundai. :icon_no2:
TALAN7 12-04-2007, 04:59 PM The turbo 4 version will undoubtedlly be lighter. With some tuning it could be sweet.
TALAN7 12-04-2007, 05:00 PM They should put it on a diet though, say like 200 lbs lighter.
BlackRX82006 12-04-2007, 09:48 PM You know what's going to happen?? When it comes out, people will rush and buy them and they're going to have some huge defect. And I will ALWAYS laugh at a Hyundai...GO ECONOMY CARS! WOOOO!! I really don't the Tiburon seriously either
cLLcLe 12-04-2007, 11:14 PM Sure it looks good... But how will the driveability be? The comfort? The interior quality and design?
All I'm saying is... it's way too early to make assumptions.
Look at what a fail the Saturn Sky was. Of course, these are two completely different companies and hopefully the new Tiburon will not follow the way of the Sky.

agreed, however based on the past 4 recent vehicles to come out by hyundai since 2005... sonata, azera, sante fe, and veracruz. all of these cars have FAR superseded expectations of their arrival. including the veracruz which was consistently reviewed against the lexus rx350 and consistently fucked it up in every category, including interior quality, fit and finish, and ride quality. if the this car is anything like the quality of the others in the lineup it will kick its competitions ass.
delhi 12-05-2007, 05:39 PM ^agreed. The refreshed current gen Tibby looks good. Interior is nicer than your average Japanese car. Sure makes the rubbermaid interior 350z looks worse than it is.
Floyd 12-05-2007, 06:56 PM I for one won't piss on any company trying to put another well powerd RWD car on the market unitl I get to test drive it.
On another note I have consistantly abused and neglected my 2000 Hyundai Elantra for the past 160k miles and it still starts up and goes without a hitch.
cLLcLe 12-05-2007, 08:37 PM ^ Extremely impressive. :)
solito77 12-05-2007, 08:45 PM 300HP! -No joke. It will give thr "8" a run for the money. Dont we have to put nearly 8K to match that power? News like that makes me wanna jump on the S2000 bandwagon thats been going on lately on this site.
My2Cents
LateralSpeed 12-05-2007, 08:49 PM This should be a great inexpensive sporty car. As has been said above, Hyundai's have skyrocketed in their quality/luxury/reliability over the past 5 years. I for one look forward to this car coming out.
Noble Wolf 12-05-2007, 09:53 PM I would prefer to ride a bicycle rather than any hyundai on this world.
It's a matter of belief.
thecow135 12-05-2007, 10:23 PM true, sometimes i think that belief should change though.
RXei8ht 12-05-2007, 10:28 PM true, sometimes i think that belief should change though.
True that also.... It sucks the kind of reputation that Hyundai has been getting from different consumers, its still, to this day instilled within everyones mind that Hyundai's are "cheap" cars or that their just emulating the Japanese. This could be true in different ways, but Hyundai's come a very, very, long way since the '80's.

Gecko69 12-06-2007, 04:27 AM besides the wierd looking exhaust and slightly overdone ground effects the profile of the car looks amazing and the overall package looks really tempting.......has a lo of potential IMO.......and I'm sure people who have a stigma about hyundai will get over it quickly when it flys past you. And just throwing this out there for the people who are bashing hyundai, have you not kept an eye on the way most people talk about the RX8.....everything from quality, engine, drivetrain, economy, overrating issues......why is it that every time I go for a drive some punk in a civic tries to race me.....becasue most people think the rx8 is not as good as we know it is......I'm pretty sure that if Hyundai keeps improving and bring out this car is will be more than a good deal. WHo really cares if its a hyundai, debadge it then. If they make the car handle at all its a done deal for me.....but I will wait one production year....which I think is just a basic rule of thumg for any new car.

Well said. +1 to... basically that entire paragraph.
Revvittupp 12-06-2007, 01:30 PM The thing is, this car will likely handle worse then a mustang, after all, it's a hyundai... It'll push and roll like a beotch.
EdwardsB 12-06-2007, 02:10 PM Now is it just me or does anyone else notice a lot of people in hyundai elantras or sonatas that try to race, and even my friend in his gf's rx-7 had someone in an sonata try and race him. He didn't care to race them and they flew past him giving him the finger, wtf hyundai people?
RXei8ht 12-06-2007, 02:14 PM ^^^ I think they over heard everyone ranting and now their all pissed.

Interesting.
Apparently it runs on hopes and dreams...
BlackRX82006 12-06-2007, 04:14 PM Hopes and dreams...so pretty much Hyundai isn't changing their performance strategies?
tjbourgoyne 12-06-2007, 04:49 PM All those pics and no interior shots, no engine, no weight. It 's just a shell. I use to have one on my go-cart, kinda cool.
onephatguy 12-06-2007, 06:18 PM still its a hyundi......
They've come a long way since they first started. I heard they actually closed down their plant and rebuilt everything. Their quality has risen and the cars are getting great marks from Motor Trend and other mags. Most of their cars built after 2000 are well made for the price.
Noble Wolf 12-06-2007, 06:30 PM Come on guys, Hyundie is a brand for immigrants in my country. Stop saying it's cool, it will be a grave on wheels.
RXei8ht 12-06-2007, 07:00 PM ...so wait what makes Mazda not a brand for immigrants, not even just Mazda, Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Subaru, BMW, Audi..... God I could do this all day!!! Whats with all the brand bashing, all were tryin to say is that Hyundai's come a long way.
Razz1 12-06-2007, 07:18 PM You can already take the current version and pump it up to 300 poines.
I've seen it.
Gecko69 12-06-2007, 09:24 PM hahaha.....brand for immagrants.....interesting statement.....I like seeing how different vehicles are seen in other countries. I mean mazda is now owned by ford.....we can get into this forever; everyone will have slightly different views. IMO if I car is good on paper and holds up to those standards then who cares about the brand. Pretty sure Hyundai is NOT a grave on wheels....at least not in Canada anyways, think they have a 5 star crash rating....like most cars these days.

God, Thank you Gecko. Finally someone with some competence.
Gecko69 12-06-2007, 10:05 PM No worries......the time of basing the quality of a vehicle on a brand name is over.....every manufacturer has their strenghts and weaknesses. But bashing based on OLD stigmas, reports, and reputations is not the way to do things. Drive what makes you smile....plain and simple. Doesn't matter if its a acura to a volkswagen, different dealers offer different things for different people. But, again, bashing based on a name is ignorance.
Mech_head 12-08-2007, 12:38 AM I like how it looks and if it does what they say it should be a good car. Its hard to beat RWD for 300hp 25k. thats one hell of a deal. And it should out handle a mustang as it has a real suspension (think it has wishbones at every corner). To me it looks better than the Z and undercuts its price by a significant bit.
Looks better than a Z, Horsepower of a mustang, real suspension, RWD, all for 25K?
Thats a winner.

Hyundai can do HP, powertrain layout, styling....but "real suspension" i have yet to see...my GF has a 06 tib GT...nice car...but "real suspension"?????:dunno:
Noble Wolf 12-08-2007, 12:38 PM My info says that the handling/suspension will be higher than the D1 or time attack standards, and performance-wise it will be a rough 10 second car. Everyone should sell his RX8 for this!
I love you hyiyundie, you are the best
Ah and it will have the same motor as Evo X +250 NOS (for those who like straight racing) I cannot wait to see it on the market!!!!!
VikingDJ 12-09-2007, 12:56 AM I know a guy at work who has a tiburon with a supercharger. It's not fully modified, and is more on the safe side for reliability he says, but I tell ya, that car freaking FLIES, especially from a roll. I've driven behind him in my Speed 6, and he pulls away on me. It's even faster then a stock Mazdaspeed 3, and will will beat one. Car has been extremely reliable with this setup as well.
I gotta say, minus the FWD, which I just can't imagine going back to now that I've been bitten by the AWD bug, that car is freaking SWEET to me. I love the looks, and I've driven a regular one, and I think it's a fun little car. I'd imagine his car is a blast. I should ask him if I could drive it. He just loves it. It's like a little rocket ship, I'm telling ya. I won't dare race him.
However, who am I to stop the flaming and bashing. CARRY ON!!!! ;)
LateralSpeed 12-09-2007, 01:31 AM Seriously, it's gonna be a good sporty car. I used to own a '04 Tiburon V6 with some mods and the thing pulled pretty good.
BlackRX82006 12-09-2007, 02:02 PM Fwd! Booooo
Mech_head 12-09-2007, 08:32 PM Hyundai can do HP, powertrain layout, styling....but "real suspension" i have yet to see...my GF has a 06 tib GT...nice car...but "real suspension"?????:dunno:
Real suspension as in unlike a mustang with whom it shares a base price tag it has an IRS rather than a solid axle connecting the two rear tires. Think i read it some article that it would have wishbones at every corner.
leakslikasieve 12-10-2007, 01:23 AM some of you guys are missing the point of those pictures. that is not what the car is going to look like when it comes out. that is wait hyundai thinks the tuner crowd MAY do to the car when they get there hands on it. the REAL genesis coupe is http://blogs.edmunds.com/Straightline/3726
overall i think it looks great, could have better rims. but great overall. and if its like the rest of the Hyundai's its interior will kill a mustang.

Agreed, although it's not very hard to beat a mustang interior :lol2:

i agree with that as well, i wanna see what upscale cars it will take down.
Gecko69 12-10-2007, 10:36 AM I actually prefer the actuall production version better then the one they had showing what they thought tuners would do to it. This car has so much potential.
Noble Wolf 12-10-2007, 10:43 AM Oh my god, now I 'm sold, these pictures are great, please, if you can find more I would be very interested not to see them. Thanks in advance.
Hyiyoundie is the quintessence of cult! YES!
Design1stCode2nd 12-10-2007, 11:10 AM Hyundai, Kia, whatever. As long as it performs well, is cost competitive and reliable why would you care what the badge is?
SlayerRX8 12-10-2007, 02:20 PM I'll make sure to laugh when you guys buy this car. It's another Hundai ripoff.
Front: IS-F/Celica
Rear: G35/350Z
LateralSpeed 12-10-2007, 02:46 PM Yea, that's what Hyundai does. The new Sonata has nearly the exact same tail lights as a '04 Accord Sedan. I don't care where the styling cues come from as long as it looks good. Odds are I won't buy it anyway since I love both cars I have but I still think it's pretty sweet.

Please, don't be so cruel with HiyoynDIE fans, this upcoming model will be much better than your boring and slow RX8s
muahahah
Rx-8u-Up 12-13-2007, 01:06 PM Great idea with the front end. But for the back end. Wouldnt you agree its a little more G35/2005-now eclipse w/ 350z taillights lol
mike1324a 12-13-2007, 01:21 PM well i am in no way shape or form a hyundai fan but lets face it, if that concept is hot. So hot that id buy a production version, so long as it looks the same way (obviously they wont have carbon). Come on. Quality has improved tremdously and throw that in with rwd and then the V-6/I-4 turbo and the good looks. I read somewhere that their performance benchmark was an e46 m3 and if they equal that benchmark..... done deal. Great looking car and their managments heads are in the right place, its looking good.
