View Full Version : Rx-8 Problems, Idle And Driving Problems
rotary_1.3_715 11-07-2007, 04:34 PM Hey Everyone, Just Recently After The Weather In Northeast Pa Started To Get Cooler And Colder, My 8 Is Acting Up Alittle. It Is Having Problems Hold Idle, It Usually Idles Around 1,100 Rpms. Now It Idles Around 1,100 And 700 Rpms, And Sometimes It Even Stalls Out. Also While Driving, Giving The Car About Half Throttle And Letting The RPMS Climb At About 4,000rms to 7,000 rpms The Car Starts To Break Up. Sounds Likes Its Gargaling, Or Something. Any Suggestions Or Advice. Its An 06 With About 11,000 Miles On It, I Have The Aem Cold Air Intake, Rpm Half In. Throttle Body Spacer, Unorthadox Pulleys, Nology Hot Wires With Grounding Straps, 4 Gauge Grounding Kit, And Ngk Iriudium Plugs, Eibach Lowering Springs, 18" Eneki Rz4 Wheels, And Carbon Fiber Lip Spoiler, and 8K Hid Upgrade. Does Anyone Know What Might Be The Problem.
Spinning Sushi 11-07-2007, 04:36 PM Sounds like symptoms of a dieing engine... what year is your car?
philsbluerx8 11-07-2007, 05:21 PM i am having the same problem? i dont have as many mods as you do but still, i have an intake......my car has been at the dealer for 4 days;i am still waiting for the call from them, cuz i am worried about if it is the big engine problem that i have to be required to replace the engine and hope i am still under the warranty with my intake.....hope you are too.....cuz i think taking it to the dealer is the only to do....
voodootrip 11-07-2007, 06:35 PM well the only time i have had this problem was when my MAF sensor was not clipped all the way on and the sensor was not fully engaging with the contacts on the intake tube itself.
rotary_1.3_715 11-08-2007, 09:11 AM Thanks Guys For The Input, philsbluerx8 Let Me Know What The Dealer Says About Ur Car When U Find Out.
El Kabong 11-08-2007, 09:14 AM OK Its Probably Your Keyboard That Is Causing The Problem With Your Forum Posts. Or Maybe User Error.
rotary_1.3_715 11-08-2007, 09:16 AM Renesis SE3P Its An 2006, With 11,000 miles on it

philsbluerx8 11-08-2007, 03:33 PM i can trust my dealer, i have left my car there for 4 days and i still havent received any phone call. Finally i went there, i saw my car parking there. then what i was told was only"we have had a look at your car, and we still havent figured out what the problem is." WTF??? i dont even know what i can do now, i have already prepared to sell my car right away, then i asked them about how much would i get if i sold my there. They gave at most 19,000CAD. its just a piece of shit!!!!
i know in US, 19000 for a 04 rx8 with 44000km is not bad but it is in canada; i spent 33000 bought a used one;
rotary_1.3_715 11-08-2007, 03:47 PM I was going to trade mine last week, and they wanted to give $19,000 usd and mine is an 06 1 owner and only has 11,000 miles on it
cptpain 11-12-2007, 07:45 PM are the iridium plugs OE plugs? if not change them to OE plugs... it could be related
philsbluerx8 11-13-2007, 12:23 AM i wonder what do most dealership do to fix the stalling problem, my car has been at dealer for a week and they havent fixed it; what they are doing now is just placing a new starter on my car cuz after few stalling problems happened, my car was not firing anymore. However, i still dont think the main reason why the car stalls is because of the starter cuz i have read quite a bit about the stalling problem and rough idle; looks like replacing new plugs and coil is what they do firstly, i dont know whats wrong with my local dealer. i showed them a lot times about the emission recall file which suggests them to swap the engine, but they just told me they were gonna look up it and find out what it is.....dont they believe the one i showed them????thats all i was wondering at that time. Can anyone who had this problem before tell me what i should suggest them to do? i have suggested them to do a compression test for my engine. check the cat and intake leakage, what else?
Old Rotor 11-13-2007, 12:53 AM Sounds like its time to call Mazda Corp. office. Thats what others have done in your situation and got results.
lennon 11-13-2007, 01:43 AM Gargaling sound?? Air-Fuel too lean?? Sound like the same as my friend's car....... Don't forget to look at the cat.....
rotary_1.3_715 11-13-2007, 11:35 AM The Ngk Iruidum Plugs I Got From A&A And I Thought At The Time, I Was Buying Way Better Plugs Than The Stock Ones, Only To Find Out As I Was Changing Them, That The Ngk Iruidum Plugs Came Stock On The RX-8. I Always Red Line Car And Like To Have Fun With It, And I Haven't Changed Or Cleaned Them Since May Or June. That I Guess Could Be The Problem, I Will Check It Out And Give An Update.
nycgps 11-14-2007, 12:22 AM As far as I know, there is no *better* plugs for our engine in stock N/A form, and I think only HKS and Denso has plugs speficially said its for Rx-8 Renesis only. I have a set of HKS sitting in my basement collecting dust, cuz I replace my plugs maybe 7-8K miles ago. still have some time on it. Many people said dont even try Denso Plugs. Im not even sure if the HKs plugs are rebranded from some one.
sure some people use Rx7 plugs with spacers(I think), but they last nowhere as long.
So if I were you, I will check and replace the plugs or coils myself, before I conclude any *dead engine*.
rotary_1.3_715 01-11-2008, 09:57 AM Well Its Winter Time In Nepa, So Last Nite The Temp Was Alittle Warmer And The Roads Were Clear. So I Decided To Take A Look At My Car And Take It For A Ride. Here The Problem All Along Was When We Put My Throttle Body Spacer In, It Was A Tight Fit. From Vibration The Two Tubes That Get Connected By The Rubber Boot Came Apart. So The Air Wasn't Going Through The Screens On The Intake, The Air Was Going Directly To The MAFS. Thats Where The Idle Problems And Breaking Came From. Tightened Everything Up Last Nite And Took It For A Ride, And Everything Is Perfect.
just out of curiosity, whats the normal idle rpm's for a rx8?
Jasonawojo 01-11-2008, 08:58 PM just out of curiosity, whats the normal idle rpm's for a rx8?
~800rpm.
izemskov 01-25-2008, 07:31 AM i have had the same problem in the past and when i took it into the dealership they said it's because of the cold air intake and they said they can't do anything about it
