View Full Version : This is it guys. The GT-R

After months of spy shots and drip-fed teasers Nissan’s all new GT-R super-coupe has been revealed with the early release of the December issue of MotorTrend. The tagline on the magazine’s cover claims the car is as fast as the Porsche 911 Turbo and is priced less than $80,000, confirming rumors the new GT-R will set a new standard in bang-for-your-buck comparisons.

Other details include the GT-R’s acceleration time of 3.5 seconds for the 0-60mph and 11.7 seconds for the quarter mile. Top speed is claimed to be a staggering 192mph.

Although we still don’t have any official details about the car’s new drivetrain, most are expecting to see a 3.8L V6 engine fed by a pair of turbochargers and mated to a dual-clutch gearbox with the latest ATESSA all-wheel drive setup. The car should measure in at 4,650mm in length and 1,920mm across. There’s rumored to be three different flavors of the new GT-R, starting with a 450hp entry-level model and ranging up to a 530hp flagship. This latter version is expected to be a stripped out racer with plenty of carbon-fiber and a track-tuned suspension.

Stay tuned for the flood of official details and images once the car is revealed at next week’s Tokyo Motor Show.

Get used to the idea of slush-boxes.

As I'm sure you and 99% of the rest of the people on this forum are aware, the dual-clutch transmissions are anything but "slush". It may not be your cup of tea, but let's be fair.

A tad out of my price range, and the interior is pug fugly, but overall pretty sweet. I'd love to pwn a n00b or two in that thing.

I could live with the interior. Seats look good.

That thing is pretty sweet.

They used the RPM/Speedo combo that the RX-8 has. Now I want one even more.

I think the interior is fine. It's a Nissan for crying out loud. The seats look comfortable and you have a Logitech game controller for a steering wheel. Plus, what I'm enjoying about my car is sometimes the interior (as with my old audi or even my old merc) but more importantly is the sound system, the climate control and the sound of the engine/exhaust. And I don't know about you all, but when I drive I look out windows and my speedometer/steering wheel and maybe my radio.

That 3/4 front view is impressive because it indicates that the car has a sort of graceful smoothness to the sharp edges. I didn't think it would look that smooth.

The side shots accentuate the hard edges and make the car look weird again. But my prediction is that when seen in person, the side view will soften and smooth out somewhat. It will look the "roundest" in black.

The interior is truly unique. You must respect it for that alone. This might be the first Nissan interior, aside from the M sedan, that is acceptable. The details are plenty and they not only look high quality but over-the-top at the same time. Wow. I just hope the materials won't feel cheap and, in person, the dash won't feel weird in a truck sort of way (because it kind of looks like it could belong in a truck!). The last thing you want is to be racing a 911 turbo feeling like you're in a freaking truck.

Rear seats like ours and a bigger trunk. Hmm.

Aside from the front - the worst I've seen on a car in memory - which looks like some weird orafice that shouldn't be decussed in public, the side, which is just pain unstylish, and the back which (thou argueably the best of the lot) from some angles looks like a Corvette w/those round taillights ... still sitting inside and looking out (and driving :lol2: ) would be a blast, not that there's anything very cohesive about the interior but at least it's fancy and has lots of buttons and displays.

What they should have is a Kabura style visible engine hood, cause that CERTAINLY is the looker on the car! Zoowie - man that is just sick looking!!! :)

Look at that factory exhaust, its horribly small and the y-pipe at the mufflers is nasty...

I really wanted to like this GT-R.

I've been saving all my nickels and dimes, and I'm ready to buy this car.

But while its performance is surely without question, I'm afraid the looks just don't do it for me. For this kind of money, I want the body and interior to be simply stunning, in a Ferrari kind of emotional way.

If I'm honest with myself, there are parts of the car that just don't look right. The lack of a classic manual trans is also a let down for me.

I wanted to like this car, I wanted to love this car, I wanted to buy this car, but I just can't. My money will be buying something else.

The style is kind of a letdown for me. The side looks "unfinished", and I'm not digging the front air damn. The hood looks a little weird, too. The ass is pure sex, tho, as is the dash and steering wheel and seats. The interoir looks nice enough for it's price point and the fact it is a Nissan.

But I agree with others the styling has to be more emotional to grab buyers at this price point. Perhaps it will look better in person?? Although a lot of people might just be "starstruck" by the fact it's a GT-R in the flesh.

In my opinion I rekon you can say the same for the RX-7. Its smooth/sleek design still looks modern to me and I think its because of the little use of aggressive lines. I think the RX-7 will still look a bit modern for another 5 years, but I can't wait for the new '7. As for the '8 I think its design will be looking old in another 5 years.

I don't really like the design of this new GT-R but give it some time and it might grow on me.

You guys have to wait for rendition 2. Nissan M.O is to bring out the better version after 2-2.5 years. That is there trend.... I wouldn't buy this first rendition if i was in the market for this car. Granted this GT-R will be awesome, but alot of first time buyers will be very sour when version 2.0 comes with small upgrade in power, diffrent interior, revised fascia, wheels etc. They did it to the Maxima, Altima, Z, Sentra, etc... and if that is the trend , i bet you they will do it to this car.

If it's price in the same territory as the new M3, then BMW may have a problem. Yes, the M3 is more aesthetically pleasing but the GT-R does have the upper hand in performance, at least on Paper. What was the M3's time around nurburgring?

You might be right, but then again, they didn't work on the Maxima, Altima, Z, Sentra, etc. for 4 years before releasing it. They might come out with special versions of the GT-R (V-Spec, V-Spec II) in the tradition of the previous Skyline GT-R's, but I don't know if there will be a rendition 2 in 2 years or so. Just my 0.02 cents.

In my opinion, the Nissan is the ugliest vehicle I have seen in a while. I can't believe Car & Driver rated it ahead of a Porsche 911 Turbo (which accelerates quicker). Not a fan of the techno-boy racer loosk or the techno-babble driver augmentation that removes the fun from driving. Give me my RX-8 anyday.
