Are there any RX8 Owners beside myself in Northern New Jersey? I live in Passaic County and I just received my Black RX8, which I ordered in July, last Thursday. I have to say I love driving this car. This is my first brand new car. I owned a Pontaic Sunbird for 3 yrs and then owned a Honda Accord LX for 10 yrs. So far I have only seen two RX8's which happened to be Red RX8's.

Hey, I test drove my first Stick 8 (I drove an auto at Falkner) at that dealership. The titgrey with navi and charpell inserts.

And not to be nasty, but your dealership is a bunch of money grubbing pigs. Don’t know if you agree or defend them but my sales person (some Puerto rican/domican girl) should be fired. She along with the person she called over were pushy and quoted 2000 over MSRP. Then they fed me some BS about how the dealership never sells cars above MSRP and the internet MSRP from Mazda was not accurate. I walked out, and im sure you have some customer response email address, or just some place to write down comments so feel free to pass this on to the GM.

I ended up buying my car at Flemington Mazda, who gave me 3000 under MSRP, the follow thru and response that I deserve as a customer and the respect that I deserve as a person.

on rt 3. i was shifting lanes and downshifted at too high for the gear and car jerked. to avoid hitting the car infront of me i switched lanes. when trying to straighten her out, something made me fishtale and i was playing ping pong wit the gaurdrail and two other cars......All in all, i ended up with three cracked rims, my fron and read bumbers messed up, a lil of the rear quarter panel messed up, also it looked as if my front driver side wheel looked slanted like pushed in a lil. but everyone is ok and hopefully i will be back on the road soon enough with some serious suspension tune-up

dude that sucks, but with the weather here in jersey like it is i suppose off the road wont hurt too much. i just ordered my winter tires, getting annoyed at being at work and it starts snowing. dang tires can't handle anything, i nearly lost it on 280 east around the oranges 2 snows ago.

now past that, we NJers really gotta meet up sometime. i think we all like to drive, so whereever it is shouldn't be that insane of a problem. not to be biased, but the middle of the state might be best since it would minimize travel distance for the greater amount of people (extreme north or south rx8ers don't have to go farther than midstate)... just an idea.

I am up for a meet anytime. I really love driving my car. Unfortunatly the weather out here is making me drive my mazda6 instead, But I wont risk hurting the rx-8. It's really bad with is origanal tires in the snow. Let me know about the meet bbye

Fully loaded silver/red leather, GPS, 6 speed, in Westfield exit 135 or 7? Always going too fast to see the sign. I see a lot of waiters out there on this thread. Dealership I went to had a ton to pick from, plus I got a good discount from 34.5K list, to 29K, why wait? I do have to say, the 8 is terrible in the snow, and you can't get snows in the right size.

bay
01-18-2004, 07:56 PM
i tend to agree with most of the comments on just getting 17s for the snow tires, providing a quick and painless swap when the weather changes, as opposed to all that is entailed with switching the tires off the rims, balancing, etc

i hope to have a bit more insight on that issue next week, when my winter package shows up.

What's up guys. I'm over in Lyndhurst.....Bergen County.
Looking to purchase / lease the RX8.
Any dealership recommendations? I've been to East Coast Mazda and I am currently dealing with Maxon Mazda online.

dag
01-19-2004, 12:10 AM
A fellow Lyndhurst-ite.

Just bought mine last week at Wayne Mazda.

I went to East Coast and got pissed because they tried to tell me that I had to get the spare tire kit when I didn't want it.

I had the S-plan, so I don't know if I can fairly judge Wayne Mazda. The salesperson was good, but it was the "financial" guy that was the one to watch out for. They did try and pull some fast one's - like charge me for documentation fees, and credit inquiry fee (what's with that), installation of the options that I wanted and weren't on the car. I believe I overpaid for LoJack also.

Did you see the black 8 on Chase? I haven't seen it for a while (about 1-2 months).

Be sure to budget winter tires, especially with the way the secondary roads in Lyndhurst are during the snow.

dag,

you get your tires yet? you putting tpms sensors on them?

dag
01-19-2004, 07:41 AM
Hi bay,
Nah - I just ordered them on Friday. I don't expect them until later in the week. I also don't have my 8 yet. The 8 I wanted (found it on the Mazda site) was still en route to the dealer and isn't due until this week. They then have to prep it for me (hopefully that doesn't mean take it for a ride). As for the TPMS sensors, Tirerack didn't have the sensors in stock. I asked and would have bought them if they had it. I am still waiting to see if there is a way to disable the sensor. Maybe for next season I will order them if they are available.

dag

bay
01-19-2004, 09:41 AM
yah, the guy is giving me the same speil, if he ends up saying they don't have them in stock, im going to say send them mounted without the sensors and hope they get them out.

i don't think there is a way to disable the reciever in the car as ive read that if you dont have the sensors on the wheels you get the beep and then the exclamation U on your dash the rest of the drive =/

Mr Tate
01-19-2004, 12:13 PM
What's up Dag.
I can use the S plan as well. Did they wind up giving you invoice or under?
Did you buy or lease? I am most likely looking to lease to keep my monthly payments down.
Can I get by with All season tires or will the Winter tires be the best bet? What should I expect to spend on them?

dag
01-19-2004, 01:31 PM
Hi Mr. Tate,
I got the S-plan price. The only things I didn't get at S-plan pricing was window etching and LoJack. If you haven't already, you can get S-plan pricing from the Ford site (let me know if you need more info). I am buying. The car that I am driving now is a lease and I just don't want to worry about miles any more. I went in with about 40% down and I am going to get between 4.5 & 4.9% interest so my payments will be below $400, which was my goal. Search the forums on the tire thing. I know someone from L.I. posted they went with the all-season and they liked it, but most people seem to be saying to get the winter tires. I went to Tire Rack and paid $155/tire for Dunlap M3's 17" tires and paid $155/wheel for ASA KA3 rims. It was a nice chunck of change that I didn't expect to spend, but I feel it will be well worth it, especially since Lyndhurst doesn't plow their secondary roads so well (once you get on the main roads it's great). I believe it will be hard to find 18" rims and/or tires.

dag

01-19-2004, 03:14 PM
Hi Mr. Tate,

I went with 225/55/17 snow tires. I looked for all season 18's but really didn't find any that I like. The snow tires work great but I had to drop to 17's. Look to spend north of $1300 for rims and tires. Also the longer you wait the harder they will be to find.

Hope this helps

Mootz

Mr Tate
01-19-2004, 09:26 PM
Cool. Thanks for the replies Dag and Mootz.
Looks like i'll have to drop another grand or so for snow tires.
Dag...you're right...the secondary roads in Lyndhurst are horrible.
I live off of New York Ave....it's pretty bad.
The car is awesome though. Damn thing...I can't get it out of my head. My current lease isn't up until June, but I am thinking of getting out of it early. But then my sensible side kicks in and tells me I should wait until at least April...when the Winter lets up a bit.
I don't know...it all depends on what kind of deal I can get. Do you think I can get a better deal now, being that it is Winter and all? Or will it not matter if I wait until April or May?

ACIDOUSx7

btw dag, after dealing with the Tirerack guys, i ordered on Friday as well, cept mine got stopped at the warehouse due to the TPMS stuff, and they have the rx8 sensors in as of today at least.... i dunno why they indicated they didn't.

i was a bit torn, but i figured i'd get the dang sensors to be proper. added a bit more to the damage.. insult to injury.. but alas, now i'm "safe"..

I wanted to get out of my lease early, but there was too much of a difference between the buy out and the value of my car ($2k-3K). My car was stolen twice during a three year lease and I just didn't want the hassle of it being stolen again. My dad is worried about my 8 since I had so much trouble with my Integra. I waited until I made the last payment. Now I will have 2 cars for a month. If I were you I would do the same, unless they can get you out without penalty. Plus that will give you the summer to save up for winter tires and you will have a greater selection. Jan./Feb are the best times for a deal, but I don't think you will get it on an 8. I guess it can't hurt to try to get a deal better than the S-plan since you have the time.

Hopefully you are not by the new Shop Rite?!? Man I feel sorry for those people that now have their lives rudely invaded, while the old lot sits there and rots. I am over by the Kingland side of Lyndhurst. I'll probably be moving out of Lyndhurst in the next couple of months to move down to South Jersey, just waiting for my wife's company to approve the move.

Damn! Mine shipped on Monday. I even checked with them about that and they said they don't have them. I called Wayne Mazda and they said they charge around $110 for them. I think what I am going to do is ride this year without them on the Winter tires and then next winter have them put on my set of winter tires. It will give me the time to shop around for them. Lucky you!

Haven't been down 2nd Ave, but I am sure my street has it beat. Took me 1/2 hour on Monday to get out of my spot, and I don't have the 8 yet.

Be careful at Crystal Auto. I brought my MX-6 for service there a few years back and they put a huge dent in the drivers side door. I know accidents happen, but they denied any responsibilty for it and refused to fix it. I had the police come to file an accident report for my insurance but could never recover my deductible. Always have the dealer sign off on the condition of the car when you leave it for service.

if you're not going t be around to use it, then i don't see a strong reason to get it.

if you end up coming back next year, you can get a new model, or a discounted 04/05?.. that could be worth it in itself.

i do hope you don't have to goto iraq, not for the whole rx-8 deal, but rather war/occupation sucks.

Haven't seen a single RX-8 in NJ yet. Have seen a number of 350zs and G35 Coupes though.

Also saw an ad in the Bergen Cty newspaper for RX-8s leasing for "...as low as $249 per mo..." Disappointing, sounds like distress sale.

My baby's sleeping in the garage. When the weather starts to get nicer you should see mine driving past where you are located on route 287. I know a lot of great roads to appreciate the handling of our cars in our area. Let me know if you want to meet up sometime.

i bought my rx8 in october and i was always in the fort lee area when i would go to tribeca. it was a brilliant black with red streetglow underbody kit.....she is gone now but soon to be back.
bay-thanx for the concern and advise...reasons why i still want to buy her again is because if i wouldn't have totalled her, she would have still been stored for a year in the garage. this is why i am leaning towards buying her again, thanx though

How far is 287 from Phila? - we should do a NJ meet sometime.

Hope all you guys can make it to the PA meet in Glenside on March 20th!

From where I'm at to Phila, it's about 1 1/2 drive. I'm located in the North West of NJ. If someone can arrange a meet in a central location of NJ, sure I'll go.

Blackbeard - are you of the Northern NJ sort that considers anything south of their location central jersey :)? Look at it this way, you can take the side roads along the Delaware to get to Philly and have some fun.

I remeber there was a really nice park by Rutgers New Brunswick right off I-95 that I used to go to Maxima meets a long time ago when I had the max. It can hold a lot of cars. I just can't remember the name of it. It's in Central NJ though.

There's actually a bunch of parks all along the Raritan near Rutgers that would be great. I believe the most well known park around Rutgers is Johnson Park.

I hope we can arrange a meet soon but not too soon. I'm most likely getting my RX8 in about 2 weeks. Hopefully I'll have the Carbon Fiber Mazdaspeed bodykit and 19" HRE's by then. I'd still roll through even if the car stock though, just to meet other RX8 owners here in NY/NJ.

doing a meet at englishtown would be cool. the autox track is being worked on and drifting is becoming popular down there as well. so there is plenty for everyone to do. it would be cool to do a meet when there are races and shows going on down there so we can take over the track and win the shows lol haha. just a suggestion

i believe that park is incredibly close to me =)

if you guys wanna do a mini meet down at the park that would be cool, we can get together locally then look at having a larger NY/NJ meet elsewhere?

cheers,
