View Full Version : Heater and AC Issues??

I have had some issues with the heating and AC in my rx8. It is really strange and I was wanting to know if anyone else had this issue and if there is a quick fix instead of going to the dealer (mine is crappy). When I have my AC off and the dial is set to "cold" it will blow hot air out. The only way it will start blowing cool air out is if I blast my AC on high for a few seconds. Sometimes this works and other times it doesn't. Sometimes I have to move the dial to hot then back to cold several times before it "engages". I was thinking it was the switch but I think it might be more than that. Now if I want the heater on it will not engage until i turn the dial back and forth a few times before I get heat. It really weird. Thanks!

Think you have been driving my car. I have the same problem, not brought it to the dealer or anything yet. I dont use the AC/heater much.

Yea.. I figured it was not just my issue.. I am sure it will have to go to the dealer soon (too bad)

NOT sure..but i believe it's because our motors get really hot that it makes our "cool" air slightly warmer then usual cars.

there's a motor control arm behind the AC knob that switches between hot and cold air...... and it's broken. Same thing happened to me, got it fix at the dealer. But heads up the dealer has to order the part most likely (which may take a week or two) so go to the dealer asap. It's all covered under warranty, there's actually a TSB for this very part.

Really? I never knew that...I assumed it was normal since my car has been doing this since the day I bought it. Do you have a link to this TSB?

The hot air is blowing ever so slightly (only when the AC & fan are off), so I usually change the air circulation from panel vent to floor, or panel/floor so I don't end up noticing the air anymore.

My heater and AC work fine and no heater issue like that mentioned by the OP (requiring the knob to be turned back and forth multiple times)...however, a little hot air does escape when no AC or heater is being used.

I was having the same issue also. I would have my AC on and while driving for about 30 or so minutes, it would just start blowing hot air. I took it to the dealer since it was under warranty and they replaced the AC Amplifier or something. Forgot what it was exactly because the paper work is in the car.

But before the change, when I turn on the AC, I did not have much power. After they replaced it, It seemed whenever my AC is on, my car did not even realize that the AC is on like before.

Well, those TSB's aren't applicable to my car.

I'm not bothered by the warm air that comes through, however I guess I'm just noticing what TurboEight mentioned.

Just tell dealerships that your AC blows hot when the knob is on Cold, vice versa

they will replace it.

Don't you think they'll test that before replacing it?

They dont, cuz its a pretty common problem.

I told them to replace my Center Console Display said that it does not work sometimes. they replaced it. no testing.

Well when you say sometimes then sure they may take your word for it. But a physical knob that controls the hot/cold air can't be malfunctioning only on occasion...

They probably had a good day that day ! :Eyecrazy:

Or maybe I've been there so much they starting to remember me, and knew that I am not one of those typical "walk in so they can rip them off" person. They know that I know my stuff.

My heater does not heat any more in my 04 rx8 too. The AC does not cool any more too. IT's like it used to work sometimes. You had to turn the knob all the way for anything to work. Now nothing works. $450 is the price quoted by Rosenthal Mazda in VA for the controller unit if my memory is correct. Uggg...
