Kuf 10-10-2003, 10:42 AM More Kuf 10-10-2003, 10:43 AM Check out that Zanio Shine (Zanio'd over a month ago, still looking good) Kuf 10-10-2003, 10:44 AM Last One graphicguy 10-10-2003, 10:54 AM Well....at least one of those cars looks good (guess which?)! Kuf 10-10-2003, 11:10 AM Originally posted by graphicguy Well....at least one of those cars looks good (guess which?)! The STi might be ugly, but that thing sure has some freaking power. RX-GR8 10-10-2003, 11:12 AM power only gets you so far. that rear spoiler is garrish and awful looking. the front head lights are all over the place but i do like the front air scoop. i'll take your 8 hands down although since i have an 8 also i might be just a little biased. :) M-ster 10-10-2003, 11:19 AM Beauty and the Beast. Do you need me to explain exactly which is which.:D Visa 10-10-2003, 11:29 AM The STi does look nice (minus the ridiculous spoiler) and is very powerful... However, the RX-8 takes it hands down when it comes to the elusive "pimp factor". While waiting at a stop light, the guy in the Corvette next to me pointed my 8 out to his girlfriend... that's what you call pimp factor :D MSMAMBA 10-10-2003, 12:52 PM Question here. Does the wing on the STi hit the C-pillar when you open the trunk? Or, can the trunk be opened at all (too heavy)? R32 10-10-2003, 04:05 PM Two awesome cars in great colors. Great pics. mikeb 10-10-2003, 04:33 PM cool pics sti is nice but not my type zthang 10-10-2003, 06:02 PM Without the wing, i think the STI looks pretty good.... Racer X-8 10-10-2003, 08:01 PM Thanks for the pix. Nice pix. That Zaino is something else, isn't it? Nice wheels on that STI. Uh... Haris 10-10-2003, 09:31 PM I dont know why you guys dont like STi or its wing? It's a bit large, but still, it's not like wing makes that much difference in styling. The STi sure has gobs of hp and torque, but styling on 8 is better. Spin9k 10-10-2003, 10:02 PM Originally posted by Haris I dont know why you guys dont like STi or its wing? It's a bit large, but still, it's not like wing makes that much difference in styling. A BIT large??!!! I'll say. There isn't really anything ELSE in the cars' styling that can stand up to the spoiler's er. ..ah.. spoiling effect... the car looks ALL spoiler!! Can you say butt ugly? I personally can appreciate the car to drive, but wouldn't buy it for many reasons including I'd be ashamed to be seen in something that looks in the front like smthg that has metamorphesised from a laval stage insect, and a basket handle spoiler SO big, and SO high that I worry I'd be mistaken... I'm not sure for exactly what... but it isn't pretty. It's one of those things that you say, "I can't tell you what ugly is... but I CAN tell you THAT is it!". PS. The wheels are awesome though! Kuf 10-10-2003, 10:34 PM Yeah, I give him crap about the wing too. You soon forget about that wing back there when you're feeling the pull from that 300hp engine! I'll keep the 8 any day though :) Racer X-8 10-11-2003, 12:23 AM For some reason the STI (& the EVO) remind me of one of my good old high school "buddies", Freddy. Freddy always wore stuff like an undershirt & blue jeans & sneakers or shop shoes - usually dirty & smelly. His hair was always unkept & matted. His breath always would stop a freight train in its tracks. Freddy never showed much of any sophistication about anything. Anything except for cars & engines & trannys & brakes & rear ends (of cars) & oh yeah, getting drunk or high. Freddy never had a girlfriend. Never seemed to really want one much. Sure, he stared at the nice ones, giggling & elbowing & stuff like the rest of us, but he never tried to actually get one. I'll bet Freddy wants one of these cars. If Freddy was a car, he would probably be a lot like one of these, except not a new one, maybe one that's about 3 years old & not very kept-up. There's gonna be a lot of Freddies in 3 years, my guess. VividRacing.com 10-11-2003, 01:51 AM Originally posted by MSMAMBA Question here. Does the wing on the STi hit the C-pillar when you open the trunk? Or, can the trunk be opened at all (too heavy)? We have done extensive work on WRXs and STIs. I traded in my WRX for the 8. The trunk opens all the way without touching. Very quick cars with lots of grip, not much pimp factor. paul810 10-11-2003, 02:07 PM Would you guys say the RX-8 has as much room on the inside for the front driver/passenger as the STi? I've sat in a WRX and im about 6'2" and that is as small as i'd want to go. I like the RX-8, but im worried about the room inside.:o mikeb 10-11-2003, 07:15 PM if u can do sit in the rx8 it may be smaller revhappy 10-12-2003, 12:08 PM Wow...what hostility??? This board seems to really have become close minded. Anyhow, I went with my friend shopping for a WRX yesterday and we went to three subaru dealers. There were a lot more STIs than I thought (3 at two and 1 at the third) so they either just got an allocation or aren't selling that well (though in this economy, cars in general don't seem to be selling that well). I will say that the STIs looked pretty good, better than the WRX. Racer X-8 10-12-2003, 10:24 PM Originally posted by revhappy Wow...what hostility??? This board seems to really have become close minded.... Not really, I think. Just a lot of people who have just recently closed thier minds about choosing every car except the Mazda RX-8 to be their next car of ownership, that's all. I could see how that might seem to be closed minded from the outside. Sorry. If one of my nieces or nephews were to ride home in a WRX, EVO or STI, I would be very happy for them. And I would love to show them how it works...:D Kuf 10-13-2003, 09:26 AM Originally posted by revhappy Wow...what hostility??? This board seems to really have become close minded. Uhhh. No. We just made our choice and it was the r8-x. I bet if I go post those two pictures on the WRX board we would see the same response from them. Anyhow, I like both cars for different reasons. Different strokes for different folks. revhappy 10-13-2003, 10:22 AM You still don't need to bash the other car. I still like other cars even though I picked the EVO. Why be so defensive about your purchase? Racer X-8 10-13-2003, 12:41 PM If I was bashing other cars, so be it. I was giving an honest opinion of the cars. I favor the RX-8 over them and that's what I bought. Just be glad I'm not in the business of car reviews. About Freddy, I was wrong about that. I think now that he would probably want to be a Ford or a Chevy - nothing imported. I don't know what got into me. :) revhappy 10-13-2003, 12:46 PM Racer, I was responding to Kuf. Sorry about the confusion. BTW.. I thought the Freddie story was pretty funny even if it was a jab at my car. :o mikeb 10-13-2003, 05:02 PM you are on a RX8 forum so of course most are bias Racer X-8 10-13-2003, 09:46 PM Originally posted by revhappy Racer, I was responding to Kuf. I simply stated I would take the 8 over the STi, how is that bashing? Kuf 10-13-2003, 11:51 PM Hell, look what I titled the entire thread!@?!?!?! Two SWEET cars! graphicguy 10-14-2003, 07:22 AM Hostility? No...I don't see hostility. Prideful? Yes! What I do see is some overly sensitive people that own different cars who come here to try to tell RX8 owners why other car choices are somehow better. I agree with Racer....trying to compare the "winged" EVO with the tonka toy interior to the flowing lines of the RX8 with its ergonomic, carefully assembled and purposeful interior is like trying to compare a big mac to filet mignon...yes, both are supposed to be in the beef family, but one is a cheap concotion smothered in stuff to hide its shortcomings that you can get at the drive thru while the other is a robust and sensual taste sensation that is savored. revhappy 10-14-2003, 10:34 AM Originally posted by graphicguy Hostility? Flowing lines??? Come on guys!!! The RX8 looks good, but its design IS compromised. Suicide doors...elongated wheelbase and short rear end. It looks a little weird, but still is a nice looking car. There seems to be a consistent theme here where the rally-inspired cars are somehow modern day muscle cars that offer nothing more than drag-racing ability. Nothing could be further from the truth, as they are known as top-notch drivers cars. As for "us coming here and telling you our car is better" is not true in this thread. The post celebrated two new, and exciting cars. A bunch of people jumped all over the STI (which I don't own and did not cross-shop when I was looking BTW) and it seems people are slamming it in a defensive way. And if you are going to slam it, please do so in a substantive manner. "It looks like crap" sounds like an elementary school argument about Huffy bicycles. revhappy 10-14-2003, 10:36 AM Originally posted by Digisan It's been like that for a while... I can see that the board has changed quite a bit from last year. HexiumVII 10-14-2003, 03:59 PM Bias is human nature, not everyone opinions are hostile, so you guys should not take it as such. Most people will be defensive of their own things, even if there are better things, its just human nature. I mean if i ever had a (god forbid) a civic or something, i'll probably defend it (YEAH RIGHT!) Anyone who has been in an STi know they are crazy. Power can take you far, but everyone seems to have a WRX nowadays, this make them less desirable. I really don't like WRX designs, but the STi makes it a lot rounder, the front looks a lot better not. The scoop and wing are totally crazy, built in RICE!!! The back is still way to plain. CraziFuzzy 10-14-2003, 04:56 PM While I would agree that there are quite a few people that are militant RX-8 buffs, i would have to point out that most reviews I've read have stated that, while the STi and the Evo both have insane power, and are incredibly fun to drive, they lack a certain style, and end up being attractive to (not trying to generalize) the Fast and the Furious crowd. I love the EVO, and drive my buddies every chance he'd give me, but i don't think I'd own one. Basically, when I scream off a line in it, it is soooo much fun... The Evo is great for this... but as soon as I slow down, I'm sitting in a Lancer again... just lacks some, well, like others have said, pimp factor... When I'm racing around corners in my 8, it is equally as fun, but when i stop, it's still an 8... not an econobox... again, I hate sounding like i'm generalizing, and i mean no offense to anyone, I just felt that some of the comments on the STi's appearances weren't completely unfounded... P.S. That spoiler is WAY too big.. :D Pete 10-14-2003, 05:46 PM The Rx8 and the WRX/STI and two different cars. Can you really see the RX8 as I rally car? I think they both look good. But the RX8 looks and feels better for me, and thats why i got one on the driveway. Regardless..... they're both awesome machines CraziFuzzy 10-14-2003, 05:50 PM Originally posted by Pete I think they both look good.
