This question came to be because he is looking for some racing Recaro's for his Integra. Do you think that because of the desire for more color inserts in the RX-8 that there will be a large aftermarket for color leather inserts in the Rx-8? It just made me wonder that for those who want blue or any other inserts need only to go down this path to find exactly what they are looking for. What do you think? Would it fall under "rice" if you want to mimic the look of the showcar or what you had in mind for your car?

nonono!! that'd be SWEET!!! the difference between "rice" and a "show car/hot rod" is very very simple: you can boil rice down to something rediculous, tasteless, and cheaply done. you see, i haven't any problem with kids takin' fast cars (like a Supra or something), and trumping them up with chrome everything: hey, if that's what you wanna blow all your hard earned cash on, go ahead. rice is where they blow no cash, and don't blow it on a 1988 Civic, outfitting it with bubbled DIY window tint, and a fart pipe with a diameter of most small coffee cans...
i really LIKE the Subaru guys who work their asses off to try and get all the details (which yes, includes stickers) just right to make their Imprezas look just like the WRC cars, i think that's really neat...
or if the muscle guys got big-ass blowers hangin' out through their hood, (a GOOD) flaming paint job, wide-ass rear tyres (with matching fenders!!!), and whatever, hey good for them, that's not rice.
if you wanna take your Viper, and mod it to look like the origional concept, or your RX-8 and make it into the Evolv, that would be mega mega cool, and not rice in the slightest, BY DEFINITION.

Just my opinion but I don't want power or heated seats. I guess we don't know for sure what the 8 will come with. But it if does have power and heated seats, It would be nice to put in some aftermarket lightweight seats. I am not sure how much weight power and heated seats adds but every pound you remove the better it is for handling and acceleration.

Power seats add a lot of weight for the motors, wiring, switchgear, etc.
Heated seats, not so much.

I wonder if you can choose for silver-gray leather seats/interior with black leather inserts...
Looks nice with a dark exterior colour. :)

Since it starts snowing here in MN around July, I would love heated seats. :D
Their only drawback is that when you turn them on it feels as if you are wetting yourself!

"Wetting yourself," that has to suck.
I follow Wakeech on the rice descriptions. Except for me, anything that is a Civic and is fixed up for performance is rice. I may have to redefine my terminology on the subject after reading about the new Neon SRT, though. 0-60 in 5.4 (Automobile Magazine), I mean I know it's still a crappy Neon and costs under 20K. But what a pocket rocket. The WRX four banger/boinger crowd has some stiff competition.

Well if real DRIVERS were buying the cars, the Neon would not be competing with the WRX because they are two totally different cars. However, given the fact that lots of kids and ricers will just look at 0-60 times and try to make up their mind... sadly they will be cross shopped.
It seems that not many people care bout handling dynamics. That's ALL that matters to me, so long as the power isn't too low to be mated with the car (ie, my Millenia)
