View Full Version : 4080 boxes
rkhockey12 07-27-2007, 10:25 AM alright i just got my 8 yesterday and its more than i could imagine. i have a new respect for everyone thats a member seeing as i was a member two weeks before i even got my 8. anyways i was surprised with how small the trunk was even though i had heard people talk about it, but i did search the site and find the 4080 boxes. i have looked and looked and can't find who could make them, although i did find instructions, but i don't really wanna make them ha. so if someone could tell me where or who i could buy a pair of 4080 boxes from thatd be great. as well as if the 4080's have enough depth to set in type r's

Jedi54 07-27-2007, 11:23 AM I have two of them and they ROCK!!
firebirdude 07-27-2007, 05:10 PM How do you get speaker wire into the boxes? Do they have terminal cups on them? Or does it come with some speaker wire already glassed into place? Or what?
Jedi54 07-27-2007, 05:12 PM The white speaker wire is what comes with the boxes. I swapped out to something a little more to my liking.

You can't see it in the picture but the connections are right on the outside of the box.

abbid 07-28-2007, 01:21 PM R/O @ $300 each.
.02
Jedi54 07-28-2007, 01:29 PM worth every penny, you cheap ass! ;)
abbid 07-28-2007, 04:09 PM Im not cheap, i just have friends that will fiberglass my whole trunk for the cost of parts :)
300 bucks for 50 bucks [im being super aggressive here] worth of parts just screams R/O to me..
Jedi54 07-28-2007, 04:20 PM not everyone knows people who can do that type of work. For those who don't know people, $300 is a steal.
Jedi54 07-28-2007, 04:22 PM besides, you get a discount when you buy two. ;)
firebirdude 07-28-2007, 09:28 PM besides, you get a discount when you buy two. ;)
Do you?! No discount was offered to me..... (sorry if that was suppose to be a joke, I'm a little slow):)
Jedi54 07-28-2007, 10:11 PM I got a discount when I bought 2 at once. (honestly)
uncivilracer 07-29-2007, 03:53 PM To be honest I do this stuff for a living for awhile. $300 is just a little steep. I would say about $250 each would be about right and probably $400-$450 or so for a pair is good. Once you have a mold made thoug and can mass produce them the price should go down. The big thing is you arnt gonna make one of these in 2-3 hours like you can just a simple wood box. It is the labor that goes into a fiberglass enclosure and in the end if build correctly is 100 times better than a simple wood box.
There is no way in hell this box can be done for 50 bucks. I dont care how aggressive the statement is. LoL
In the end it boils down to ability and desire. It looks like a part of the car and just blends in almost perfectly and that is what alot of people want.
I know how to do this work and would give around $450 for it to be built for me. $600 I wouldnt spend. So like I said it boils down to what you want and what you are willing to put into it.
slavearm 07-30-2007, 02:10 PM To be honest, these are the best fitting boxes I have ever used in a car. I would rather spend the $300 on a quality box, then the crappy alternatives.
